I really love this card too. I can't wait to use him as the top curve in my budget extort deck. I'd like to find room for Crypt Ghast as well..

Mono B extort looks sexy atm. Ghast and Pontiff in a deck where all lands are swamps? Ouch man...

I don't think he was knocking it-
I think he was explaining how it's not a major drawback,
or a reason to think less of Drown in Filth.

Ah. I was half asleep and I mistook the last line.

On anoter note, doesn't Drown work with Jarads recur abilty? Kinda makes me wonder if Theros will have some "lands in the gy matter" cards that will become something wacky post rotation.

If you watch the trailer, you can definately apot thw art for drown in filth.

The vines dragging the soldier down? That would be awesome. Might even become my new fav death spell if true.

Don't overestimate the impact of milling cards from your deck into your graveyard. Even if you do end up pulling lands or important cards out of your deck, it doesn't make any practical difference compared to if those same cards had just been sitting at the bottom of your library. And milling yourself is just as likely to throw away useless cards and put something you need closer to the top. The practical impact of self-mill is extremely low, and only really matters if there are a small number of specific cards you literally *need* to draw in order to win.

Anything in my graveyard can be reclaimed. Flashback, scavenge, treasured find, if anything it moves my decks speed to double. My creatures grow, I find anything I need, and about the only downside is graveyard hate. And with the new cards coming up, I now see why there is so much of it.

Seriously dont knock self mill....it's faster then evolution you know.

Drown in Filth is interesting if you're trying to combine Golgari and Dimir for self-milling shenanigans. Especially since lots of Dimir milling guarantees to put a land card in your graveyard.

You wouldnt even need Dimir. GS, Mulch, RFS, Splinterfright, getting this spell pretty much gives my mill deck a serious tool. I can be dropping this by turn 5 to give something -8/-8 for 2cmc, while milling myself more. Win win.

Not even close, half of the chaff with spikes that swanland craps out is far uglier than that... (his "style" is utter trash).

Maybe, if you have no taste in art. He's actually my favored artist. Not every work can be "holy light and a sexless female figure cloaked in white". How boring. Give me spikes, gritty darkness, and illustrated movement any day.

Aetherling is the hero standard deserves. but not the one it needs right now

I think you typoed. Your post says "hero" when it should say "vile fiend". Just wanted to let you know.

Not sure I understand your point, but I am pretty sure that control can slow you down enough to get this into play. Then again, I could be wrong. It could be simply a sb inclusion against other control decks, who knows. We don't even know what the standard will look like exactly once this whole set is actually out. But believe me, I think this card will see a fair bit of play and probably be a decently priced card.

Not saying it wont, it's an amazing card, but my point is anything with access to black or green can easily nuke that "5 butt" if you dont have that mana open. Saying "only control can deal because his def is 5" is a tad bit ignorant.

We already pay 7 for Angel with no protection for it. Why are people saying we need to necessarily hold up mana for him. It is not the easiest thing to kill this guy with his 5 butt against anything other than control. Then, if he survives a turn, he becomes rather brutal, considering he is unblockable.

Anything other then control? Destruction and Fight called, they seem a little AGGROvated.

Aetherling is very, very good. Practically unkillable, unblockable, vigilant creature that can swing for 8, and let's you wrath without dying. That is insane. Blue Baneslayer, but better. About the only thing it doesn't do is block flyers, or have lifegain/lifelink. Have your Pithing Needles ready.

See post above. I do admit though, I love how in the art he's practicing his shapeshifter martial arts!

"You come to this battle expecting my mind to be your greastest foe, ahahaha, how foolish! Now, prepare yourself for 13 moves that the senate made illegal 25 years ago!"

They definitely made this card for Mr. Snapcaster and Delver. Also...he'll be a nice addition if you go up against the new card, Aetherling.

As much as it pains me, and as much as I been ranting about it, spider is no help with Aetherling. He can be made unblockable, so sad spider is sad. But 7 mana to play balances that. And even at that, I'd sink 2 removal into the guy anyways.

    Armadillo Cloak's great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandson stole Aetherling's spotlight. Grin

But yes, Aetherling is very good: with just :1mana::symu::symu: available every turn, it can hit for 5 every combat phase regardless of the opponent's board presence and dodge removal all day. Better yet, you can sweep the board while keeping your threat around, which is just perfect for control.

I suppose the only big downside of Aetherling, aside from having to get past countermagic, is that you need to have at least one extra blue mana available when you cast it, in order to give it a chance to survive until the next untap step.

See, that was my thought. 7 mana to play. I know alot of ppl are psyched for this card, but thats a big price for constructed. I just hope eyes arent bigger then stomachs.
