This set looks awesome for limited, especially draft. So many possibilities! And what great uncommons! Nice to know you'll have a lot of great cards in that first pack even after first-pick kind of material has been taken. Plenty of decent commons, ta boot.
As for constructed, I don't see it being that horrible. Pretty much the same as any other small set: some really cool cards, plenty of jank (some of it pretty sweet like Goblin Test Pilot), and a bunch of cards that need to be put to the test of time before any verdict can be passed on them (and some that have already been put to this test and passed, ie Aetherling, Gaze of Granite, etc).
The flavor also seems like a real expansion from the other sets in the block, w/out totally nixing the previous themes, and w/out totally following suit.
Keep in mind that they had to fit so much into this set, as it wasn't just a small set, but it was also the last of a huge, multifaceted block. They've never done that before, right? big-big-small? And there is a ton in this set for how small it is. Not to mention, they have to make sure it will jive with the upcoming sets, too.
Against the tide, I rather like this set.
BTW Some of ya'll seem to have such unrealistic expectations, it approaches the delusional.

...and I am very happy with what we got. She works perfectly for me, I love the flavor, and I think she's an amazing and well-designed card.
Then again, I'm a TimmyJohnnySpike - I like using big, cool effects in decks that I design myself in order to win games competitively - so she appeals very much to my audience. -

Captain_Morgan posted a message on [[DGM]] DailyMTG Previews 4/10: Teysa and a cycle of GatekeepersThe protection from creatures means that she can go Voltron while defending you from problems. She reminds me sort of Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter but with less of an infinite combo and more of a way to directly deal general damage. She has potential, not for the faint of heart but black does have mana ramp to be able to get her to put out more.Posted in: The Rumor Mill -

Faust2391 posted a message on [Unconfirmed] Melek, Izzet ParagonPosted in: Rumor Mill ArchiveQuote from izzetmageThis card seems too strong... It's like a Jace Beleren that you can tick down forever without needing to recharge. Also, it hits your opponent for 2 a turn. Also, it can Forked Bolt if you don't want to draw. Also, it can't be attacked. Also, it's easier to cast (no-one plays mono-blue, BTW).
Yep, not convinced this is real.
also it is removed and out raced. Easily. Very easily. -

chrstphrbrnnn posted a message on [FAKE] Varolz, the Scar-StripedPosted in: The Rumor MillQuote from tomthumbThe deck you are describing hasn't really done anything in standard, and I only care about real decks. It's possible that this guy will make that deck good, but I highly doubt it.
And here's a card to make a frige deck even better. Look at the meta pre-GTC and post-GTC. Despite the fact that GTC doesn't have that many cards in the current popular decks, half these decks weren't played to the levels they are now. Reanimator popped back up, out of nowhere and with very few cards added in. New sets change the meta, that's just the way it is.
Not to mention: this is a great 4 drop in colors that have quite a few very good cards already (DRS, Abrupt Decay, Lol-troll) and fits well with the fight mechanics on Tracker, Domri, Pit Fight. G/B or Jund will find a place for a practically unkillable dude that grows.
And if we wanna talk post-rotation? Most of the formats good 4 drops are going to rotate so at some point in time this guy will see play. But by all means, continue to under-value this card. Hellrider was undervalued for a quite a while and is one of the best aggro 4-drops in standard at the moment. Like I said, I'll grab my five dollar playset. -

Don_Quixote posted a message on [[DGM]] Ruric-Thar, The UnbowedSettle down, children. I'll remind you that, at the very least, Lavinia and Teysa are likely to be more control-minded. Which could very well mean that they'll be as aggravating to aggro players as Ruric-Thar is consternating to control players.Posted in: The Rumor Mill
Other champions may well be terrifying to tempo players, mortifying to midrange players, rage-inducing to ramp players, or confusing to combo players. -

FoxxyEDarko posted a message on obzedat, ghost councilHis prior example included slitherhead, with its scavenge ability makes it more useful as a blocker. I don't think the 2-1 rulle applies so well to a creature you're still getting uses out of after it dies.Posted in: New Card Discussion - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Maybe, if you have no taste in art. He's actually my favored artist. Not every work can be "holy light and a sexless female figure cloaked in white". How boring. Give me spikes, gritty darkness, and illustrated movement any day.

As much as it pains me, and as much as I been ranting about it, spider is no help with Aetherling. He can be made unblockable, so sad spider is sad. But 7 mana to play balances that. And even at that, I'd sink 2 removal into the guy anyways.

Yeah dude above this is right, its a one time deal. Card is mythic because pump+antiwrath. Didnt see that it has to be exiled to do though, not really worse then sacing, just means no recurring it.

I dont understand the magic community...it's like there are a select 400 plus fans who do nothing but trash down cards biasly and insult players with originality. This is a card game....can we dial back the seriousness a wee bit and remember that this is recreational?

....Seriously? Everyone with a differing opinion then your own this issue is to blame and deserves to be flamed? Ok, I'm gunna say one thing befor I rebuttle: I hate mythics and walkers. That said, grow up man. You sound like a whining kid who feels insecure so he bullies ppl. Im so sure these random posters are the reason mythics exist.
And if you are so displeased, boycott the damn game! Either way, stop taking things out on players just because they like mythics. You sound like a Timmy whining about control players man.
