I live out in Commack, looking for a place to play Legacy and there doesn't seem to be anything close. I used to play out in LA, Cali, but now that I'm here in NY I wanna to get more competitive (doesn't help that wanting to be competitive and then finding nowhere to compete is a bit of a letdown)

I know I know, what am I doing with a limited bomb here? What some see as just a bad card for a format might be a card that has some midrange potential and fodder for a different breed of artifact decks besides affinity.

Picture a UR Tron Deck that has some midrange or combo strength as a back-up plan. Or just have a robots list with some weirdness to it.

Trash for Treasure on a Rig and get a fatty into play post sweep? I'll take it. Either way there is a better payoff.

Would Volatile Rig get a chance at doing some weird, zany stuff?

Like offering a rig to a shrapnel blast? If the rig loses the flip it deals additional damage stacked onto what Shrapnel Blast would do.

Just some ideas. I don't know what magnetized me to the card but I can't shake the feeling that it'd belong in a deck type of its own, even if it looks stupid.

You missed the key word consistency. MUD is famous for being inconsistent because you can't always "rofl kuldotha into blightsteel ftw" because not every hand is going to be a godhand.

Every combo deck has some form of consistency. Show and tell can consistently win by going Sneak-Show or Omni-tell into Emrakul. Belcher cycles through cards to fire off, etc. Same goes for Elves and Reanimator.

All these decks show a consistent way to win. MUD is unconventional and can win using control and combo elements, but it all eventually comes down to swinging with a big creature. Or a lot of them.

"Combo has nothing to do with card advantage" - Seriously? SERIOUSLY?

Can you play Show and Tell without any of your blue cantrips? Can you play Elves without Glimpse of Nature? Reanimator without cantrips?

Of course you can, but you'd be considered an idiot.

Belcher is the most unconventional combo deck out there, so don't lump it with the rest. It wins if it has charbelcher in hand. If it doesn't it can find it and win in a moments notice.

Turbo Eldrazi combo comes from the lands? Are you going to call every ramp deck a combo deck now? Primeval Titan is a combo piece? What...? When did hardcasting Emrakul become a combo?

Please for the love of all that is good, do some research and try to understand the deck's properties. In this day and age you don't have an excuse for not knowing how a deck works or what makes or breaks it.

First you mis-represent a deck, and proceed to go on prattling about things you don't even understand. Safe to say this site lost its credibility entirely as a source for legacy deck construction.

    We are done here.

Why is this in the Combo section, may I ask? last I checked MUD has always been represented as an aggro list. I find it a misconception to call it "Forgemaster Combo" when it doesn't have any form of consistency like every other combo deck.

It plays Metalworker, the key card. Forgemaster is there just as an alternate win con if Metalworker fails. Same with Goblin Welder. I play all three and they work just fine, and makes it less of an "All In" list.

Enter the Infinite is just Win More. As far as the rest of the set, nothing looks interesting enough to play, just gimmicky.

I find the modern ban list to be a joke. I don't need to write an explanation because Caleb Durward already has an article for it.

It was fun while it lasted for there to be a format not dominated by blue. But honestly, I play Legacy over Modern because I don't have to look at a banlist and laugh at it.

A format that bans a card like Preordain doesn't deserve my respect.

Maybe it's time for there to be a re-balance of the format. A format that makes people think for a change instead of playing decks that play themselves (Looking at you, Jund)

Everywhere else it's registered as aggro. It lacks the consistency to be considered a combo because it has no way to generate card advantage the same way blue decks can.

Staff of Nin/Sensei's Divining Top/Staff of Domination are not card advantage, they are utility pieces that function as a crutch in order to compete with superior hand manipulation.

Show and Tell into Emrakul is not ramp. Ramp is 12 Post (it uses SaT but it has 12 post for hardcasting). This isn't a matter of preference whether someone thinks a MUD list is combo or not. It's a matter of fact and ever since the list evolved from just being 5/3 Stompy it has been an aggro deck.

I feel like the deck is being misrepresented and it's bothersome.

the core card is Metalworker, not sure why it'd be listed as combo as the primary win condition is to ramp into fatties and swing.

The Source has MUD listed as an official and established deck...but not MTGS? What gives?

I understand it's in the Developing section, but the deck has been around for long enough to have seen placement in the top 8, especially in the last couple of months

It's not a consistent deck, but it's still a pet deck.

Had to actually reread the card and I take back what I said about this keeping lifegain in check.

Lifegain is now a win condition besides it becoming a grind.

I'm not coming back to standard

In a format that is heavy with lifegain, especially with people making aggro cry by resolving a Thragtusk after a Rhox Faithmender, this card can make or break the format, all depends on where it'd fit.

About time a card came along that'd put Thragswag in their place

Strange thing is, MUD and Affinity don't even really mix. It's like playing with DUPLO blocks and building the Collectors Edition R2-D2. Same element, different styles.

I don't know how I'd go about mixing the two
