Apr 25, 2017Hey, thank you for the postPosted in: Standard Archives
Could please elaborate why you do not play Honored Crop-Captain in this list, it seems better then Glory-Bound Initiate in this deck. Especially in combination with Bloodlust Inciter and Hanweir garrison it can just deal tons of damage.
Apr 12, 2017Will definitely try 1-2 of him in my Collected Stompany list. It seems very good in there.Posted in: Modern Archives - Established
- It can come off coco, and will be online in that deck very often, an instant deathtouch indestructible is pretty good last time i checked
- The deck has mana dorks to abuse the ability to get it online
- Trample is very good in Collected Stompany, making Baloths, ram gangs and geists bigger with trample is very nice and will win games
- Did I mention its a 5/5 deathtouch indestructible for 3 or 0 very often in this deck?
- Can be turned offline
- Is legendary
- Low devotion
Mar 31, 2017The Cat Snake on a plane is better then you guys give credit for. Dies to bolt is not really an argument in my eyes, the majority of our deck dies to bolt or fatal push anyway. But especially in my Collected Stompany list it would fit the SB quite nicely depending on meta, not sure what to take out yet.Posted in: Modern Archives - Established
DeckMagic OnlineOCTGN2ApprenticeBuy These Cards Lands: 20
1 Treetop Village
3 Birds of Paradise
4 Noble Hierarch
4 Strangleroot Geist
4 Avatar of the Resolute
4 Leatherback Baloth
3 Boggart Ram-Gang
2 Eternal Witness
2 Reverent Hunter
4 Aspect of Hydra
4 Collected Company
2 Pulse of Murasa
2 Creeping Corrosion
2 Natural State
3 Relic of Progenitus
This version of the deck rather enjoys playing versus death shadow builds as it has numerous ways to deal 8+ damage in a turn from an empty to near empty board and they have no clue when or where its going to come from. Eternal Witness maindeck might seem strange, but the mana in this deck allows for it to feel like Snapcaster Mage quite often going Aspect of Hydra, Witness, Aspect of Hydra or eot Coco(don't forget that Groundbreaker does not die with an eot coco due to the oracle text saying: At the beginning of end step) into mainphase coco with 10 haste creatures. Witness is also extremely good with Pulse of Murasa from the side vs burn.
Totally agree with BbearZ on his assessment on Skinshifter and the Keen Sense reprint, those cards really are not good enough to discuss. Skinshifter needs mana open every turn, not just your turn, and even my list taps out almost every every turn. You could basically state that Skinshifter is a card that slows the deck down, and that is the last thing you should want to do.
Really hope we get some more green mana symbols in this set, fed up with all the single mana symbol cards. I just like slinging basics in modern
Edit: Why is that sweet sweet Champ's promo Groundbreaker so expensive! its not like the card sees actual play....
Nov 19, 2016I have been playing this deck for a while now, first things first. This deck is a blast to play, i have been doing modern for a long time and got fed up with the lack of Timmy plays, but this deck has Timmy plays for days!Posted in: Standard Archives
I came to post that Combustible Gearhulk is absoluty nuts in this deck, its a high variance card but with the cmc in this list it becomes extremely risky for your opponent to choose take damage at almost any point in the game. But especially below 10 it is almost always a 4-6 mana 6/6 first strike draw 3 or win the game. My record so far was 22 dmg of it at fnm, needless to say the player no longer choose to take damage in games afterward. Getiing the double red for it was never an issue. Last fnm I won 3 games with pure Gearhulk blowouts, from 20, 14 and 6 life, and the lowest damage it did was 4 to kill a Tamiyo. Sanctum of Ugin+Colosus just stays a very good combo as you will most of the time have 2 or more Colosus casts per turn.
The only issue i have run up with is good control or u/w flash players just countering all your 2-5 mana artifacts to prevent you from getting to Colosus, i have switched to 3x tks maindeck to help punish these decks.

I found that infect and deaths zoo really tend to get blown out by fog, they dump their hand to win and you fog the damage away, it makes you really stand a chance. Those are also the type of decks you really need to board for to make the matchups winnable so 4 sb is not crazy. Like you experienced you do not need to have sideboard cards vs allot of decks and can afford to play less hate for those matches.
Nov 1, 2016Posted in: Modern Archives - EstablishedQuote from Culthero »Quote from Rancormaniac »Is there a dream card we need from WotC to further advance Stompy in this Modern meta? Something that can possibly make this deck break through to Tier 2 at least? I'm really curious.
Overshadowed Barkling G
Creature - Treefolk - U
Spend only mana produced by basic forests to cast Overshadowed Barkling.
Overshadowed Barkling gets -1/-1 for each nonbasic land you control.
G, sacrifice Overshadowed Barkling: Choose target artifact or enchantment. Its owner shuffles it into his or her library.
I hate tron, sword of F&F, etched champion, and other stuff that make our life miserable.
Would love a set that uses a mechanic like that, I really think monocolored and basic land decks get to little love.
My commission to help stompy
Naturalist (you may spend only mana produced by basic lands or creatures to cast this card, if you control no basic lands sacrifice this card)
When you cast Bloodbraid Geist reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a green creature card that costs less. Put that card into play.

Hey, i am just recently getting into green devotion after playing stompy for about a year. I have yet to find my direction in the deck as there are lots of flavors and mixes in them possible. I am wondering why lists never seem to play Noble though, one of the best creatures in the format. Will get back when i have tested more
Interesting list, really wonder what is the deal with all the elves in that top 8 and how in compares to the rest of the decks in the field that day. I mean no Jund, Infect or deaths zoo in the top 8 is weird
Oct 16, 2016Posted in: Modern Archives - EstablishedQuote from Zasse_G »Absolutely No! You can change and mix Vines with Blossom but don't touch Rancor or the Hydra, they should really be 4 of. I tried for long time with rancor all between 0-4. My conclusion was Rancor is greatest at 4.
Rancor is good because:
- Trample. It will prevent chump blocking with spirits, dorks, spawns which would give them more time to stabilize and find answers. Sometimes it just a few lifes away from the win and we want every swing to count, don't we?
- Enchantment that sticks - ie getting it back if a creature dies and recast on another to start attacking with that one. Always pressuring.
- We doesn't have to go wide ( which we shouldn't since it's bad to play out your hand and have all your creatures vulnerable for removal/wipe) , we should keep hitting the opponents with our fatties few a time.
- Offense: Added pressure with the +2 in attack to make opponent lose more life
- Defense: use the +2 attack as mean to trade with big creatures the opponent has
- Synergy with Vines, Hydra and Blossom to get extra damage through
All of these are true, however you are forgetting the main reason not to run it.
- creates situations were you can get 2-1ed on cast.
This actually happens so much that it is not worth it in my opinion. This deck already has a disadvantage in late game with card advantage and threats and drawing a Rancor is the worst when you are in topdeck mode. A vines of defense is already much better than that
Oct 11, 2016It seems to me that this deck could really profit from Ovalchase Daredevil in combination with Faithless Looting, Collective Brutality or looters like Riddlesmith, Disciple of Deceit or Jace, Vryn's prodigy.Posted in: Modern Archives - Established
It's basically a Squee with a more relevant body attached that can be abused multiple times per turn.
Sep 27, 2016No problem man, maybe i should have explained a bit more where the list came from in the first place. Definitely check the Carsten analysis, best way to check out chance of playing card X on turn Y.Posted in: Modern Archives - Established
@Cheapdudes: birds is suboptimal, 1 Noble vs 1 bird doesn't matter that much, but I have won games with only 3 nobles and a gheist on the table, then the difference is huge. On the other hand birds have evasion and in conjunction with aspect of hydra that can win games. Maybe if you play with birds it would be better to play Rancor again, but not sure about that. Maybe just playing an elf would be better? 1 extra power on the board really matters in this deck.
In the end the power to have 3 mana on turn 2 and 4 on turn 3 is what matters most though. I'd say try it out.
Does anyone have any idea to make the nahiri control and Jund matches better? Card advantage and dealing with planeswalkers especially seems important.
Sep 27, 2016Okay it has 9 bolt protection cards and 5 path protection cards, seems nitpicking to me but okay. I am testing if the 3/2 split is good enough but it seems nice so far.Posted in: Modern Archives - Established
This is a evolution of the Collected Stompany deck from StompBee, I personally coined that name and have probably made the most hours with that list anyone has.
The thing with that list is that it can have rather bad draws and late game topdecks with 4x birds and 4x Noble and the high amount of 3 drops. To counter that I have lowered the curve and decreased the reliance on coco, this has significantly decreased the variance in draws and does not really decrease the speed.
22 land may seem like allot but when you take the Frank Carsten analysis it is allot better then running 19 lands for casting coco and the 3 mana spells. Also treetops cannot be seen as lands, this deck needs untapped lands every turn from turn 1-3 and if you do not have that it becomes allot slower.
This version feels allot more unfair then the standard stompy list without coco or Noble to me mostly because of groundbreaker. I try the normal deck from time to time to see how it compares.
