I never said it was the b/u white deck that everyone was playing. This is something I came up with. I haven't played out in a while and idk what the "top decks" or anything like that really is. This is just something I threw together without actually net decking.
I been toying around the idea of a new standard deck. Coming up with a blue/white aggro based around Geist of saint traft and tamiyo.
I threw a deck together literally in 25 minutes before a local shops standard night. And it did fairly well against my match-ups. It lacked a bit of steam to get through the entire game though. But it managed to make all 3 rounds last through the 50 minute match times. So that was good. After some thought and cutting of cards, I've came up with this.
sorry its not in proper format, but my Main deck looks like this so far:
This is my main idea for the deck. I want to add some things. 2 more geists, a second entreat the angels, I want a full set of hallowed fountains and a full set of glacial fortresses. Been toying around the idea with Silverblade paladins and have them pair up with the Geist's angels as they're attacking. By turn 4 would hit for 8 in the air.
Other than that, it's pretty much aggro control. Purpose is to keep the geist alive. If a supreme verdict is being cast, Unsummon him in response so it doesn't die.
Try to keep tamiyo long enough to get the emblem and them just win. Lol
I also want to see how well this runs after its
Done. If I can manage to control the board enough, I REALLY want to throw in an omniscience as the 61st card. That plus tamiyo is just instant scoops for my opponent. Lol I'd put that in there just for trolls. But it'd still be fun.
Lemme know what you guys think!
Any ideas, lemme know! I'll consider anything new.
Edited for deck tags. Check this thread for info on how to use these. ~parinoid
So. Last night I went with my variation of the deck to a standard tourney. Lost first 2 games. Didn't play the other 2. I was pretty bummed. I kept getting mana screwed in every game. Didn't see really any land in one round. I was working off 1 forest, promenade, and 3 arbor elfs for majority of that game. I have about 9 kill spell in my deck. Didn't see a single one. Idk what was going on.
I need to go back over the mana base and try again though.
That necropolis regent wouldn't be a bad idea. Seems like it could be a good card to turn a board position around.
And as for the fling, that's where the jarad comes in. You can sac the hydra for 1BG. Or essence harvest for 2B. and you don't even have to sac him. And you'll gain that much life as well.
Say you have a corpsejack out on the board. You cast a hydra. X=4, he will ETB with 8 counters on him. On your next upkeep, you'd double his counters, but instead of placing 8 counters, you'd double that and put 16 counters instead. Making him a 24/24
That's not a bad idea. I might sideboard a few of them. Wouldn't hurt.
I'm hoping this deck can beat down before any sort of threat could go off.
The regeneration on the creatures is good though. For supreme verdicts, bonfires and whatnot.
My first build of this deck, I used 2 grisly salvages and 3 jarads orders. I been screwed over by grisly salvage a few too many times so that's why I took it out. I always ended up dumpin my best sorceries and instants and never saw a land or creature. I only use one jarads orders if I have more in there. I never saw myself using it more than once. So I figured I would only have one in there. If I see it, I'll use it if needed. Other than that. It'll sit in my hand. At 4 mana, there's many other options I could have in my hand that I'd rather play. Like a corpsejack menace or a dead bridge.
It seemed the only times I'll use a jarads orders is if I have a decent board position or if there's no threats on the board and I have nothing else to spend the mana on.
I have 2 of the creatures in there and one jarads orders. I have the jarads orders in there for a just in case if the game is going slow enough, I'll pull up a hydra or menace. And throw a scavenger in the grave yard. Or even a jarad. And just get him back from there to my hand by sac'ing a forest and swamp. He works well when a lot of the mana dorks get killed off. I had him up to a 6/6 before. And also his sac ability is awesome against any threats towards your creatures. He's been pretty good. Normally I'll wait until I have 7 mana out to play him so I can Cast him and then immediately use the sac ability on a hydra or something. Usually it's a near game winner at that point.
The ooZe is working out well for me too. I like it. The Indestructibility is great. And I've gotten him up to a 7/7 by turn 5 with 2 corpsejacks out. The opponent just scooped after that. Cause it would have been an 11/11 and he had no creatures to block with. It's a pretty good addition. Easy to cast with the arbor elfs out on the board. I may find a spot for a 3rd one so I can see it a bit more often.
I have shaman in my sideboard. 2 of them. I would only use them against izzet or zombie decks. Other than that, I am using the pilgrim for mana ramping. I tested yesterday. And with the hand I drew, I was working off 1 forest and was able to get 6 creatures out by turn 6 between the arbor elves, pilgrims, ooze and a dead bridge Goliath. And when I drew black, I was able to drop the corpsejack menace.
The pilgrim isn't a terrible choice when you have to fill the colorless mana of the creature spells.
I built this deck on mtgo and was testing it out. It seemed pretty reliable. And there are some changes I am going to make to it. The deck list if I remember, contains
It seemed to do pretty well. Things I found useless were the somberwald sages and the specters. I'm going to try to replace those with something a bit more useful. Maybe some more kill spells. Like an extra 2 tragic slips and two extra dead weights.
We'll see.
I'm trying to get this deck consistent enough by next Sunday to do well at ravnica game day. I figure the best way to test is online where there's a huge variety of tourney practice extra competative players. I figure if I can be consistent in winning, I'll be ready for the game day.
And hopefully the deck can help everyone else win too.
Also, when I get home later, I'll have the actual deck list formatted out properly on here so it's a bit neater.
I put varaska in my sideboard. I only have one in there, but I could prob main board her for the murder. Also, 2 dead bridge goliaths are in the sideboard. I might find a spot to main board them though. If you can drop a 5/5 on turn 3, that's pretty good I'd say...
I've never played with garruk in standard enough to know how good he really is... I'd prob put a relentless in there if anything...just for his tutor ability once he flips.
Id replace the thragtusks with some sort of scavenging peeps. Possibly slither heads. Or even those and a dread mangler. Something with the scavenging ability. I like the idea of the mana dorks. Arbor elf would be great with the overgrown tombs.
I would also love to be able to build this deck and make it wreck at game day next week. Lol
I'm gonna have to work on it later today after work and see what I can come up with.
All these ideas seem great. Keep em comin!
