A New and Exciting Beginning

The End of an Era

Yeah got really excited when I first saw it then re-read it. Not so great now. I wish they would have applied the turn condition for spells only and not the activiated abilities. That would make the card fair I think.

So who was the pilot that was featured at Seattle? Anyone here?

That was a good read, is part 2 up yet?
I recently picked this up again and played the same list Mengucci played. Really enjoy the list. I haven’t played with big Thalia, recruiter or responder but they are all really strong, esp big Thalia. Responder mostly ended up being mox food as it’s so low priority but when it did pop down was pretty good at sneaking extra damage through. Played a couple of Czech pile type decks and just out valued their one for ones. Sweepers out of the board is a different story. Beat reanimator and sneak through good hands and timely palace jailers. Got smashed by eldrazi, but that’s to be expected. I definitely think palace jailer should be a 4 of, getting rid of strixes and anglers is key. Retribution of the meek might be a good answer to eldrazi.

Can anyone link the games from BOM or eternal weekend DnT matches. I looked through BOM coverage and couldn't find any DnT despite 2 being in top 8.

Wow everyone seems to have played over the weekend. I finally got to play after completing deck 3 weeks back. Only a small tourney with 12 people. Went 2-2 with luck mostly determining the outcome. Played TE like list with tutor board
    Round 1 UWR Delver
Game 1 lost the die roll and a t1 delver went all the way with sfm and flickerwisps facing removal. This and not drawing a third land until far too late meant it was game over pretty quick. Game 2 again opening with 2 lands and not drawing anymore. Used a wasteland to mana screw opponent but he was able to draw out of it and an active grim lavamancer ended this game.

    Round 2 deathblade
A very entertaining game with mother of runes winning games 1 and 3 combined with Thalia/mangara lock and sfm respectively. Game 2 was a blowout with an active jitte destroying my board.

    Round 3 ANT
I win the roll and mull into a mediocre 6 with just a revoker. Opponent opens with double probe and brainstorm. I top deck Thalia stopping opponent from going off on turn 2. Draw another revoker and its game over with revoker on petal and led. Game 2 he mulls to a slow 6. I have a very nice hand of mom, canonist and Thalia. A blind therapy on Thalia can't stop a mom into a canonist which he scoops to.

    Game 4 MUD
Both games he get t2 wurmcoil. Can't do much there. No swords in opening so lose both.
I should have definitely mulled more aggressively but as a former mud player you know hands are a lottery and anything can happen.

Overall I love the controlling elements of the deck. I sided out mirran crusaders every game as there weren't relevant match ups.

you target it at opponent's EOT, forcing it to tap, then target it again on your turn

Ah yes very clever. Very good to know thanks

Round 4: Jeremiah with Tezz Control 2-0

Game 1: He opens with double Ancient Tomb and City of Traitors with a signet. He lands an early Thopter Foundry. I activate Mangara and he sacs the foundry in response to get a token. He then tells me Mangara is gone and I say nope and remind him the ability is countered on resolution. So I start going at him with a Thalia and a Mom to back her up. Mangara hits a land instead, bouncing him, with a Wasteland dropping him to three mana. Next turn I top deck another Wasteland and play Mangara again and he scoops.
Game 2: He scares me with a turn 2 Tezz, but then proceeds to let Thalia and Mom beat him to death while he digs. Double Mirran Crusader seal the deal when he tries to save himself for a turn with Baleful Strix and proBlack walks on by. P

Just some clarification on mangara ability. So his ability is countered if his target is gone?

@Lazeron, congrats. Question: where did your opponent get a black-bordered city of brass with modern artwork?

Eighth edition foil is black bordered I believe

I hope wizards pushes for some competitive prints. Pretty much all colors bar white have had good tribal decks in some format lately. A walking suppression field or winter orb would def achieve that. Here's hoping.

Yeah pretty disappointed with not having anything worth considering in this release. If any guild was to produce a playable card it would be boros.
But what card would you actually want printed? Tutor soldier would be nice. A suppression field soldier for 2 mana would be awesome, or if aven mind censor was a soldier.

Oh wow I didn't know field could shut down the shaman ability. That's handy.
I definitely think field Marshall is better than the swordsmith. The first strike ability is just too big. I feel against the tempo decks, bant and Jund I need to stall out to the long game. An early goyf really hurts, however a couple of small first strike creatures really does well holding down the fort.
I might actually try the crib swaps in the next tourney over the revokers. Goyfs and bobs are such a pain.
