GG everyone it was nice playing burn for all these years but there is no way to fight this. Crack and Command are powerless to help here. All anti life gain are null and void against this. Time to sell off burn and build a new deck.
I was looking for a solution on Reddit and some guys mentioned that this actually counts as life gain, so Skullcrack and Atarka's Command would still get it.
What do you think about Glaring Suns ?
a 3-mana sweeper that can be cycled for 3 when it is unnecessary seems not bad.
Slightly worse than Anger of the Gods when we compare the effects, which are actually relevant on keeping opponent's graveyard out of fuel or definitely getting rid of problems like Kitchen Finks or Voice of Resurgence. However, I feel like it is a better card on unknown local's meta, due to its ability to eventually replace itself when you're playing against a deck without decent targets.
First: Enough talking about Soul-Scar Mage. The card is decent, but not good enough for burn. It can see play in some UR brews or even Monored Skred (where it can fully benefit from Pyroclasm/Volcanic Fallout effects), but it's too slow for burn.
Second: I think Harsh Mentor will be a good sideboard 2-of card, but not for every local meta. It screws Affinity and Lantern pretty hard, greedy manabases and CoCo/Kiki combos. But IT IS meta dependent. Also, it DESTROYS Living End through its cycling effects, and even though is not a tier 1 deck, you guys should keep an eye out for it, specially with potential buffs after Amonkhet.
Third: The good ol' removal discussion. Sure, it dies to staple removals, but so any of typical burn creatures. Granted Eidolon can do damage in response, but the hasty guys don't always do damage, specially off-curve. Lavamancer and Nacatls suffers in this regard.
Conclusion: a good card, but currently not worth the price. I'll probably test 2 on my sideboard, but it can be left in some local metas.
@SenYong I think it's overall a pretty bad matchup. You could try to run more creatures and try to threat his PWs and life total with combat (Vexing Devil and Wild Nacatl), but to be honest I would try to run Smash to Smithereens to break the Chalices and keep your Destructive Revelry ready for Moon and Leylines (even though chances are still slim).
20 Snow-Covered Mountain
2 Scrying Sheet
4 Relic of Progenitus
4 Mind Stone
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Skred
1 Magma Jet
2 Eternal Scourge
3 Pia and Kiran Nalaar
3 Stormbreath Dragon
4 Blood Moon
3 Anger of the Gods
4 Koth of the Hammer
2 Chandra, Torch of Defiance
Side
3 Dragon's Claw
3 Molten Rain
1 Anger of the Gods
2 Crumble to Dust
4 Goblin Rabblemaster
2 Hope of Ghirapur
I liked your list. How is Goblin Rabblemaster doing? When do you side him in, usually?
I went 3-1 (2-0; 2-1; 1-2; and 2-0) at my LGS last night in a small (13-person) tournament. I finished 3rd in the round robin. The top four agreed to split the pot so there was no elimination round, but I wasn't going to come in first or second.
Also, anyone have thoughts on Soul-Scar Mage? I think it could be the one-drop this deck actually wants. It enables a switch from Anger of the Gods to Pyroclasm -- the Mage would survive Pyroclasm due to prowess, and the weaker effect would be offset (when the Mage in in play) by the -1/-1 counters the Mage substitutes for damage. Also the Mage makes Bolts and Skreds a lot better -- he gets the Prowess boost and they kill Kitchen Finks, shrink Tarmogoyfs and other big creatures, etc.
Decklist please?
I was thinking about that.
Soul-Scar Mage seems pretty fun in Reckoner Skred builds. I keep thiking about the ideal scenario of Volcanic Fallout crippling everyone and he lives (because of Prowess). Also, shrinking creatures with Bolts, Skreds, Magma Jets, Pyroclasms, Anger of the Gods and Chandras, sounds nice, specially against biggies like Tasigur or Tarmogoyf. It's kind of a situational card though, but Skred is always meta-dependant, on which currently uses biggies (mainly in Eldrazi and DSJ builds), so it can be good I suppose.
This Avacyn will surely see some play in White Devotion decks. She is insane with Godsend, the new Ajani and white soul.
This vault is also pretty powerful, I wonder what kind of deck he will fit.
I'm glad to see the original Liliana reprint. She is pretty fair and she'll be a viable enabler for Waste Not. I just wonder how Garruk is gonna be now.
Don't you like Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch? Her ability interacts very well with counters. Underworld Cerberus have good interactions with Graveyard as well, and he can be a pain to block, specially while you are triggering dethrone on him. The funny thing is that he still triggers Marchesa, since "he dies". So he goes to exile and comes back to play after.
Yeah, being only the third best Tier-1 deck in standard is not enough, I guess. Did you know that the latest GP winner was a guy commanding a monoB devotion deck that had to pack 4 Staff of the Death Magus in the sideboard to be able to overcome the prevalent red decks?
You are talking about Boros Burn, not aggro decks like RDW or DtRed, which were the ones I was referring to.

I would like a second opinion, though.
Can we fight this?

About the Phyrexian Obliterator stuff, the only viable option I can think of is Dismember, which also is a fine sideboard card to deal with things like Kor Firewalker or biggies like Gurmag Angler.

Only really useful in Commander if you are playing against a Relentless Rats deck.
Well, you forgot Wingmate Roc and the Prowess Brothers. This card can be relevant on sideboards against Jeskai or Abzan variants.
My Devotion to Red plans just got even worse now. White is getting so many good things...
