just getting started on trying to alter cards ... and have been trying a few different methods ... using markers (do not like) ... and using acrylics ... (gotta get the hang of it) ... i am accustomed to painting gaming miniatures and figured it would not be that hard of a process to move over to cards ... boy was i wrong ... i am quite sure it is something simple i am overlooking but figured i would ask instead of beating my head against the wall some more...
after putting a thin basecoat onto the card (craft store acrylics watered down) and letting it dry several hours i went to add a different color to start building up the gradient ... and with each brush stroke it would lift off the old paint under it ...
i had not applied any kind of matte spray or primer ... nor had i tried to erase any part of the card... was straight from a pack.
yeah it's not a pleasant experience ... and i have seen this person do it to numerous people .. along with the "oh i gave those cards back to you already" a week later when a new person he borrowed a high dollar card from finally see's him again ... but of course he hadn't given it back...
i got bit again by him not to long ago ... thought i had gotten him to understand i do not like my cards bent up like that and let him borrow a modern deck for a FNM (wasn't high dollar, mono red but that is besides the point) ... got it back with about 4 torn sleeves, and several bent cards ... he just shrugged and tossed me a pack from what he had won that night... so back to not loaning him anything.
every shop has at least one of these types .. sometimes it may actually be a group of two or three that stay together ... i hate to say it .. but it sometimes goes hand in hand with the individuals that have more experience with the game and go to events higher then FNM level (at least in my area it is the case) ...
i have had one person scoop up and walk out on turn one because his deck was all humans and i put out a stromkirk noble ... and he had no removal in his deck (was a person from above said group)
then another from same group that likes to put in headphones and ignore any questions you try to ask about what they are playing (was trying to learn the cards, had just started) ... then gets really annoyed when they have to slow down and explain even a bit of what they are doing ...
last person from the group is the type that does not own his own cards ... but instead borrows from everyone to build his deck (even when going to higher level events) .. then proceeds to fold and bend them out of shape badly ... then hands them back to you like it is nothing when the night is over with ...
i have since gotten to know them better and talk with them after over a year of FNM's with them .. but i still have the same opinion of them and how they act towards newer people ... i now try to be completely different then they are... funny enough, it seems to be rubbing off on them and i see them talking with the new people more as well.
mine sit in deck box along with sideboard ... have them in the heavy clear penny sleeves when i draw the placeholder i set it on table and fetch the one i need and place it on top of placeholder .. when it dies it goes back in box and placeholder goes into graveyard.
i have one i have been toying around with ... that it started off as an idea to use the guildmage to reset the undying on some of the creatures to be able to use them as blockers for most anything .. plus card draw ... and then with the undying when it first comes back it will trigger evolve on several other creatures ... predator ooze is good to for the counters and draw ... and say if you have them almost dead with a decent sized ooze on the board ...and swing with everything .. they block the ooze but not the other ... bioshift to move the counters and kill em ...
as someone who plays mono red ... my goal is to try to kill you before you stabilize ... but it does not always happen .. i have had quite a few games that i get them down to 4 or even 1 .. and they stabilize and come back for the win because my luck ran out when it came to card draw for that last burn spell ... and they had enough creatures on the board or cards in hand to answer what creatures i would play.
quite a few decks work well against it ... well maybe not zombies .. but even that could be built up to compete ... just no zombie i can think of that comes close to hellrider and the like ...
gruul aggro can normally kill in a couple of hits if the cards draw right.
i just point out cards i am interested in after they have made selections from my binder and let them decide ... the three land one ... i was expecting one land from it and he said for me to take all three ...
i grew up eating rice noodles in miso soup ... thanks to my aunt ... have always used most any brand of store bought ramen ... but put just enough water in the pan to not quite submerge the noodles ... a bit of oil and the seasoning then drop the noodles in when water boils and turn fire off ... cover for a bit then eat ...
occasionally with an egg mixed in ... never really found a pack that i like more then others .. to me it is more about how you prepare them then what pack you purchase ... but i rarely just use the default season packet and add my own...
that looks like it got caught in an automated sorter and damaged ... cards are still salvageable .. but for sure affected their value ... was there insurance on the shipment?
if he had more negative feedback that was honest .. or even neutral i would have not ordered from him ... i could not leave negative on my interaction ... as i got what i paid for ... and in a fair amount of time ... only about 3 to 4 days longer then expected... but the packaging and lack of communication is what i reflected in the stars .. which i think he has adjusted as well.

also picked up a Thespians Stage, Stomping Ground, Sacred Foundry for 2 Ludevic's Test Subject
occasionally with an egg mixed in ... never really found a pack that i like more then others .. to me it is more about how you prepare them then what pack you purchase ... but i rarely just use the default season packet and add my own...
