Being able to T1 AV suspend would be great. If you top-deck it later it's bad, but we could discard it to Jace looting and then cast it with Goblin Dark-Dwellers.

Ancestral Vision unban is super interesting. AV is excellent draw for a slower, grindier deck like ours. But it doesn't work with Snapcaster/JVP due to lack of a CMC. Maybe it would be more at home in a list without JVP, and maybe back to older Chapin style with Cryptic.

I really shouldn't be surprised at the IoK spike. I was banking on a reprint because it seemed reasonable and I hoped WotC would have gotten the message that $10 Uncommons irritate people. And now I won't be able to get them at all, at least not at a reasonable price. Just really ruins the fun for me. I don't like having to work around speculators and SCG prices just so that I can get a hold of a few uncommons.

Ran a list that was fairly similar to Chapin's at GP Pittsburgh, one notable change was swapping a Terminate for MD Damnation. Didn't do well, but I'd chalk that up mostly to a lack of experience. Dominated Bogles of all things. Game 1 I used my maindeck Damnation plus a Terminate to kill off his Kor Spiritdancer. He had gotten up to 30 life with Lifelink, but Tasigur cut through that along with a couple Snapcasters and a Tar Pit. Game 2 was strange. He attempted to Aura-up his Dryad Arbor on his T2 into my open fetch. Just killed it with a Lightning Bolt. From there he resolved a Rest in Peace while I resolved a Spellskite. With our hatecards essentially cancelling each other out, the game dragged on into draw-land-go for a long time. Which I was completely fine with, because long games favor us. Eventually hard-cast a Tasigur and beat him down. Had Engineered Explosives in hand that I was saving for a threat if he ever resolve one.

Other notable matches: Had a very close g3 against RG Tron. Needed to topodeck a Bolt or Snapcaster to kill him the turn before Ugin ultimated. Not in the cards though sadly. Also lost a g3 against Affinity. Was frustrating because I had 3 Kolagahns's Command in hand but was mana-screwed. Finally got the mana and got off three 2-for-1s with the Commands in a row. Too late though. That game convinced me to go back to Blood Crypt over Ghost Quarter.

Was there ever a consensus on Thought Scour VS Tormenting Voice? That Voice doesn't require blue is sweet, and is insane with active Ascension.

That 4CMC is probably too much to be able to pull off in Modern UR Storm. Which is a pity, because a hard-to-kill Goblin Electromancer that staples Scry 1 to almost every single card in the deck is hilariously powerful. I kind of want to try tinkering with it just for fun, see what it can do. Would need more fast mana like Simian Spirit Guide and Pentad Prism. Could also look into a way to cheat it into play.

In short, looks too costly, but that effect would be amazing.

Coming off a 3 week hiatus from Magic. Felt a bit rusty with the deck, and went 1-2 at a local tournament, losing to Abzan (Voices, Rhinos, no Goyfs I think) and Esper Control. I made some mistakes, but definitely got hurt by Stony Silence. Since I've been out of Modern for a bit, I played a list pretty close to one I saw online.

I never really liked Talismans, and they were a liability in all the post-sideboard games. Against control, I don't want to side out mana sources though, so I think I may just cut them for 2 islands and a 2nd Academy Ruins.

Earlier in the thread, people were talking about Gifts for the Mindslaver combo. With 2 Ruins, this is possible with a pile of Mindslaver, Ruins, Expedition Map, Treasure Mage. Of course, it might be better to just go for value.

Wurmcoil wasn't that great and died to a lot of Paths. I played 2, but I'm probably going to go down to 1, maybe for the second Gifts or 4th Repeal.

Anyway, even though I didn't play great, I had fun Troning again.

Can't they just give you Mindslaver plus Treasure Mage? That seems like it would stop you from having the infinite Mindslaver lock. Or am I missing something here?

Glad to see that Exploit got a few decent effects. Vultorous Aven and Minister of Pain are nice.

Fate Forgotten flavor text is hilarious. Someone dropped the ball there.

I've been away for a few sets - what's the flavor fail here?

The card references the Sultai, who are B/U/G, and Silumgar, who is U/B. The card is white. Just doesn't really make any sense.

Is it just me, or is Blessed Reincarnation terrible? Yes, I'll spend 4 mana to replace my opponent's creature with something that may have higher P/T, or a potent ETB effect.

Profaner of the Dead is pretty sweet. One-sided bounce effect is powerful.

EDH/Commander is a wholly separate format, all on it's own. It has some special rules, and it's own banlist. I'd recommend checking out the home page for it. The short version: build a 100 card singleton deck out of any cards in Magic (excluding the banlist posted on the site). Your commander must be a legendary creature. You may only use cards that fit the color identity of your commander, I.E. a Blue/White commander deck may only use cards that are blue and/or white. Casting your commander from the command zone uses the same timing restrictions as any other card would. If your commander has flash, cast them whenever you want. Otherwise, you have to stick to your main phases.

I suppose I'd play it in some 3c-5c casual EDH deck. It's a big, flashy effect for a deck that can take advantage of it. That it can't refill makes it somewhat irritating even for a 5c EDH deck. Meh. At least it's better than Archangel's Light.

Potential Storm playable card from DTK was just spoiled. It digs us deeper than Sleight of Hand, and is also an Instant. The downside is that at 2 CMC, we can't cast in on T1. That's a pretty serious problem in my opinion, but it's worth trying at least. Once we have a Goblin Electromancer is becomes quite nice.

    .

I feel like it can replace Desperate Ravings. Its very Similar to Telling Time, which no one uses, but its a lot better for our deck than Telling Time. Not sure better than Ravings though

I'd be more likely to replace one of the blue cantrips with Anticipate than I would Ravings. Not having any way to dig with red mana, increasing our already strained blue mana, seems risky.
