You could do Akroma's Memorial then everybody on your team is an Akroma. It's an easy target for removal but playing it late game with a big board state can win you the game.

I converted my damia deck to omniscience beatdown after reading the mentioned article. I actually won with it too. Late game I dropped Praetor's Council recovering my then huge graveyard. Then I cheated in Jin-Gitaxias with Quicksilver Amulet to get another 7 cards. On my next turn I played omniscience and dumped 20 cards on the board, Akroma's Memorial , and several tutors to get anything else I needed and swung for the win. My curve is so high at this point though; I need more cheat creatures into play effects, so it's still going to need to tweaking, but it was a fun victory so I thought I'd share.

Most importantly, if you don't have the power cards or resources to fight your way to victory on your own, you can play politically so you don't have to do it all by yourself. EDH isn't Competitive Standard, where you're all on your own and games are usually decided within 5 turns, and if you play smart and are willing to forge alliances with other players, you might be surprised what you can manage without having pricey dual lands, top-tier power cards and so forth.

I really appreciate the input. This is how it's gone so far. Basically I had the choice when starting to decide I actually wanted to put money into this game: Either I start out putting big money into lands and then collect everything else (playing with weaker stuff to begin) or buy the big splashy spells which I'm so fond of and then put money into mana base.

Basically I chose the big splashy spells. While I plan to eventually build up my mana base I was using PT to cover myself in the meantime. While all those options for ramp and color fixing are viable, it's adding 5 cards in the place of one. Making the deck overall a little weaker.

I'm not terribly worried about it, but the lgs I play at we actually play for prizes. While none of us are extremely cutthroat win on turn 3 decks there is still pretty stiff competition. I don't have to win all the time, but being color screwed half the time isn't fun either. (I know, don't play a 3 color deck, I just love BUG)

Maybe I should have gone the other route and hit the mana base first, but I think it will still take time to get to the level of those who have been playing for years and years.

I'm not going to lie, right now my deck is kind of a "good stuff" but I don't play it very cutthroat. I try to play in a way that keeps games long and fun for all. I'm hoping the RC doesn't start banning cards because they're good and often abused staples or I'm going to be out of a deck and $$.

I'm not going to lose sleep over the PT ban. I don't agree with it. I've said in other posts I don't think there should be a ban list at all.
For me I used prime time to get duals. I can't afford shocks or ab duals and fetches so for the cost of one shock I bought a prime time to fetch for come into play tapped duals (ie. creeping tar pit) or the Karoo lands.

Other cards can do this like the sac and grab lands for an opponent to chose. None of those options work as efficiently. So now I have to spend a couple hundred dollars to update my mana base. Also pick up a chromatic latern and watch it get nuked instantly.

I know I'm probably the minority in this as others love to "abuse" cards, but for those of us who haven't been playing long enough to have a lot of powerful cards it takes a while to build a deck that can hold its own in multiplayer.

It's just a matter of what's going on in your group. I'm fortunate; I play at 3 different shops and there is I think one person that plays combo. I've never run into anyone playing mass land demo.

If all you get is beaters swinging all day, that gets just as boring as people going infinite. At times I wish someone had a combo to end some games that just drag because of: creature, creature, creature, board wipe, until people run out of answers and we're overwhelmed by the player who consistently draws the best creatures.

I don't think there should be a ban list at all. We're not children who need to RC to be our mommies and hold our hands and protect us from all those nasty spikes. I appreciate them trying their best to keep everyone having fun and playing the format. There isn't much they can do to change people's personalities. This mentality of "if we make guns illegal there will be no more murder" is counter productive. People will find a way.

I had that combo in my Damia deck. I took triskelion out, because although it was an easy win with tooth and nail I didn't really get much satisfaction from winning. Personally I feel like 2 card combos aren't really very fun. I still like combos, but prefer do have to assemble 3 or 4 cards at least to feel like I actually accomplished something rather that got lucky when no one had a counter spell.

Obviously that's just personal opinion. No one ever got really mad when I pulled out the combo, but I got bored with it by the second time i used it so not many people had to deal with it. A friend of mine runs it and has had some grumbles and groans when he plays it [turn 6 or 7], but then they just shuffled up and played again. Keeping answers in hand to deal with it (or just gunning for him from the start).

Recently I built a u/r Nin, the Pain Artist deck that's a lot of counter/copy magic and theft and burn. In making it I didn't realize how dickish it would be, but it's probably not very fun to play against. Oh you want to use primetime to grab urborg/cabal coffers? Blood moon, ruination, price of progress. You want to combo out? Countered. That's a nice prime time/eldrazi. I'll take that hit you in the face with it and then sac it to Ashnod's altar to play something else. Maybe if you start playing their threats against them they'll rethink the way they play. Or maybe they'll just hate you haha.

you might want to explore a RW general as well for this one, either O-Ring or Fiend Hunter your own creature then cast worldfire... Smile

You know, I think you're right. I want to build a RW edh at some point because I have a Damia BUG deck so I need a boros deck to complete the color wheel. I just started building Nin though, so it'll have to wait. I may save Worldfire for the future deck (assuming it doesn't get banned).

I think Worldfire is a hilarious card.

I agree that's why I wanted to try it. We'll see if it turns out as fun as it looks…

I guess if I can float 3 I can, Volcanic Fallout and take everybody (including myself) at the same time.

I don't think it is even that good.

Each time nin has died makes it less and less feasible to drop into play. So unless your game plan from the beginning was Worldfire>nin your probably looking at at least 13-15 mana

I agree it's not the greatest. Nin is my casual deck (whereas I try to keep damia more competitive) so I'm just tossing in cards I normally wouldn't play to see how they work. I may try it, and hate it immediately. I just wanted others opinions on how to make it work, so I don't just drop it and go haha that was fun and walk away after ruining everybody's boards hands and gy's. I will definitely use it sparingly either way. If I'm sure I can win within a couple turns.

I wouldn't be too upset if/(when?) it gets banned. The deck isn't going to revolve around it. Unlike griselbrand I won't be $20 in the hole for a card I can't use anymore.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I think you've convinced me to at least give it a shot. I just built the deck so it needs a lot of play testing to figure out what it needs and what's a waste of time.

I think I own a Vanishing, so I may toss that in in case I end up with both in hand. It could also be nice to put on stuffy doll to change the target (if that in fact works). May also try Greater Gargadon. Seems like sacing everything in response to worldfire to take off all but one suspend counter could be fun (for me at least haha).

If they don't work out I won't be out much as these are inexpensive cards.

    Worldfire
I have been toying with the idea of putting this in my casual Nin, the Pain Artist deck. I have a couple questions for you all.

    1. Is this just a terrible idea?

To me it seems if it's played responsibly it's not ultra douche. I would reserve it for games that are dragging and nothing is really happening or if I had an opportunity to finish everyone off as quickly as possible after I played it. Which brings me to my next question...

    2. What are some reliable ways to finish the games quickly after nuking everything in a u/r deck?

I have been trying to think of ways to finish everyone within a couple turns, but in discarding your hand it makes things more difficult.

I think it could be kind of fun in really long games or games where people are gaining ridiculous amounts of life to wipe everything and then race to get the 1 damage on eachother. I know fun is subjective so many other people may not agree.

What do you think? Any ideas or should I abandon this crazy scheme?

    Thanks!

well for 1 less mana, you get akroma's memorial, which in my opinion is just so much better. giving everyone flying, haste, trample, vigilance and pro red/black can turn the tide far more easily than akroma herself.

Absolutely agree. So excited for the reprint so I can more easily afford one.
