We have 3 girls at our FNM. One of them is a real distraction to the other players, if you know what I mean. Grin

I think that's part of her strategy. Wink

I have a friend who uses this strategy. Her attitude is: "You want a show? Okay. I'll just 2-0 you in my deep-necked blouse." She uses the desire for attractiveness against the male mtg-playing majority, and it's hilarious.

I don't go to those lengths, but I also don't let "male expectations" stop me from playing at my local store.

And by the way, I was the one who got my boyfriend into Magic. Cool

(Usually about 1/10 players at the shop are girls on event days.)

what are shock lands and bouncelands?

Shocklands are the Ravnica dual lands (tap for either of two colors) which enter tapped unless you pay 2 life to have them enter untapped.

Boucelands are lands which tap for two colors (one of each) simultaneously that enter tapped and make you bounce a land to your hand when they enter.

stone raining urborg kinda turns off their swamps, and more importantly, doesn't destroy your own swamps.

    Cause they're playing urborg.

Which means any 'destroy all swamps' gets yours.

Oh, I know. I'm beyond caring at this point. I'm that sick of that card combination.

Although I already looked up answers to the situation, you guys have my thanks for suggesting some. A few were ones I hadn't seen before.

As for those who answered my main question: thank you guys as well. I have been wondering why such a card doesn't exist for awhile now.

I do have an idea for how White could pull it off. White tends to be about order, right? So, the expansion of civilization would be favorable, at least in some contexts. Thus, why not have a card that involves the encroachment of civilization into swampy areas? Think of the Everglades in Florida losing water and draining dry due to human expansion, as an example. It's a stretch, but it's all I can think of. Thoughts?

    ((I'm still fairly new (~9months in), so I'm not 100% sure of White's motives/flavors)).

Lately, my local EDH meta has gotten frustrating. I am sick and tired of three-color decks that happen to have black (and usually green) that constantly farm up Cabal Coffers and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth . It's just getting really old and predictable. I have to run a disheartening amount of land hate in my deck just to keep games from being ridiculous.

I won't deny that it is an excellent and powerful combination. I'm just sick of it.

I am in the mood for some reckless punishment, regardless of losing my own lands, but no "Destroy all swamps" card exists. A destruction spell exists for every other type of land (and global land destruction). My best option looks like Ruination to deal with Coffers and Urborg at the same time. Many other cards exist to answer this as well, but that's not my point.

MAIN QUESTION: Is this lack of universal Swamp destruction due to the existence of the Coffers + Urborg combination? What color would this card be? Green? White? Maybe red? What do you guys think?

I played in both the midnight event and the Saturday one. Midnight I went Red/White, but Saturday I went White/Blue. If you've got removal, RUN IT. That is what determined my color choices, in the end. So little removal is in this set. If you can get the black removal and a solid second color, black pans out fine.

The blue bouncer, Mist Raven, is excellent with the blink effect cards. Cathar's Crusade is also sick with blink effects and several cheap dudes and token generation cards. Sadly, my pools weren't very solid, and I got mana-flooded/starved far too often, but such is life.

In addition, if you get 5 Green Bombs, RUN THEM. My friend tried to force black because of his Griselbrand, lost to me, showed me his pool, got yelled at by me, switched to green, and just wrecked face thereafter.

I know this is late, but if anyone is going to a secondary event Sunday, maybe this thread can help.

P.S. I will learn how to link card names soon. I just wanted to post quickly for other people's benefit before any Sunday events.

I have but one request from this set, and I don't care who or what Wizards uses to fulfill it. My desire can be summed up in three words:

    ***RED. BLUE. PLANESWALKER.***

***And make it a good one, pleasepleaseplease!***

Other than that, I wonder if Niv hasn't been dominated by Jace. How creative will wizards get with the multi-color concept? No matter what, I'm excited! This is only the second full set I'll have been around for once it comes out.

Salvation made a forum for it, so I thought I should come say "hi," as would be only just and proper. I just got into Magic last summer, and I love it!
