  • posted a message on First Time Cube Question
    Hi all,

I'm building a cube for the first time, composed of cards from the last few sets that I have lying around. I want to simulate a normal limited environment (right now I have 40 commons, 20 uncommons, 10 rares per color). How do you guys recommend making packs? I have seen some that say just shuffle everything together and make packs, but I'd like to recreate the idea of a certain number of commons/uncommons/rares per pack. Anyone do it like this?

    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the explanation, that makes a lot more sense now. Why do you think they decided not to make "Unblockable" a keyword ability? Dimir keyrune seems like it would be more logical if it said "gains unblockable until end of turn."

Forgive my ignorance, but I fail to see how the keyrune and Phantom Warrior are any different. Both have text that ends in "is unblockable." Why would Turn work differently for the Warrior? Is it because the keyrune only has that ability when it is animated and not as the actual card?

After reading over the upcoming rule changes, I realized that I may not have been playing cards like Turn to Frog and Turn//Burn correctly.

When it says "loses all abilities" does it really mean loses all keywords? For example, until Indesctructible is keyworded, Turn doesn't cause a creature to lose indestructibility?

I had a situation in draft last week where my opponent attacked with an animated Dimir Keyrune, and I used Turn to make it a 0/1 and I blocked it. Was this incorrect? Unblockable and Indestructible are not abilities?

To be honest, I only really considered putting the Pursuit on the Frostburn, making it a 3/6 that I can pump into an 8/1. Was Rig the better choice to be enchanted?

This play is objectively wrong. You shouldn't worry about whether or not he topdecks trestle troll. That's not a reasonable thing to play around - it's more like paranoia.

That may be so. But remember, Rig has to attack every turn, so if he plays anything, I can only hope to chump block with the Frostburn and I'll never have another chance to kill his 8/7. Does that matter?

Back in RTR draft, I was playing an Izzet aggro deck against a Golgari player with a lot of scavenge. The game has gone long as my opponent has traded his scavengers for my creatures, stalling me and slowly building up bigger threats with the +1/+1 counters.

He plays a Golgari Longlegs as his only creature. I attack into it with Frostburn Weird, willing to trade if he blocks. He takes 1 and goes to 12. I saved my mana for a second main phase Volatile Rig. I intend to race him, as I am at 10 life. On his turn, he scavenges a Dreg Mangler (I had forgotten about it) onto it to make an 8/8, and attacks. I control the tapped Frostburn, the Rig, and have one card in hand - Pursuit of Flight.

I'm running through options in my head - do I go to 2 and try to race, knowing he has Trestle Troll in his deck? I sit there for a minute, and I'm not the greatest decision maker, so I say screw it - and block with the Rig hoping to lose the flip and wipe the board. I have the Pursuit in hand, so any creature I draw probably wins me the game. I block, opponent is surprised. I lose the flip. I draw another Frostburn next turn, opponent draws 3 non creatures. I have no idea how dumb that choice even was.

Have you guys begun thinking about guild choice for the prerelease? As far as I understand the rules, you will get a guild pack from the guild of your choice, as well as a guild pack from a guild that shares a color and is from the opposite set as your guild choice.

My two least favorite guilds are probably Golgari and Dimir. Assuming I understand the rules correctly, that means I could pick Selesnya or Boros and assure I wouldn't get a Golgari or Dimir guild pack. Is it a coincidence those were seen as the strongest guilds in each set?

  • posted a message on Fuse
Why does the Fuse reminder text include the clause "you may cast one half from your hand" then? Seems like they could have just left it as "You may cast both halves if you play it from your hand." Maybe I'm looking into it too much.

  • posted a message on Fuse
As far as I know, we don't have actual rules on Fuse yet. The reminder text is "(You may play one or both halves of this card from your hand.)"

Now, I thought it would be understood that you could play one half of the card from your hand, but the fact that Fuse allows you to cast one or both halves seems to mean that you can't cast it unless it's in your hand. So you couldn't use it with Snapcaster Mage, or Past in Flames. Am I interpreting this correctly?

I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding your question, but I'd like to point out that Lazav, Dimir Mastermind only works on creature cards put into your opponenet's graveyard, so no self-mill strategy will work for him.

If you already knew that, I apologize for not understanding.

  • posted a message on Conditional Targeting
I use the destroy clause of Dimir Charm to hit a Crocanura. My opponent responds by pumping the creature so that its power is over 2. What happens?

Similarly, am I able to cast a Dimir Charm targeting a creature with power greater than 2 just so I can extort off it? Or is it not a legal target if the conditions are not met? Thanks!

  • posted a message on Hunted Cycle in Zedruu
I've seen some posts talking about rule changes in M10, but if I give an opponent tokens from something like Hunted Dragon, who owns the tokens? Does Zedruu get value from them?

Thread closed. Please direct future rules questions to Magic Rulings. -Weebo

  • posted a message on Enchantment removal in RG
I'm playing a Borborygmos Enraged EDH and having problems with some enchantments in my playgroup (Oblivion Ring, Call to the Grave, etc). I would prefer not to run straight removal like Naturalize, instead favoring value attached to creatures or other spells/permanents. Any ideas?

Same goes for combating graveyard oriented decks like Mimeoplasm. Thanks in advance!

If you have no maximum hand size due to something like Venser's Journal, can you still elect to discard to 7 or are you forced to keep the cards in hand? Thanks!
