14th ammendment can be read just as easily to protect a brother and sister ability to get married.

If you support gay marriage I cant see how you can not support sibling-sibling parent-sibling marriage.

I have to ask, do you legitimately believe this or are you just spiteful over the supreme court ruling and are resorting to one of the classic fallacious arguments of the anti-gay marriage movement?

The state has a compelling interest in not allowing immediate family to marry, for obvious reasons. If they're not obvious to you, let me know and I'll explain why.

Note: I'm referring to immediate family here, not cousins and more distant relations, that marriage of which is already legal in some states, or at least has been at some point in recent memory.

When you asked him "are you just spiteful..." You implied that such opinions are so absurd, that no person can truly hold them. This is fairly insulting toward people who actually do believe that any 2 consenting adults can marry, even if they're family

It's just you. Once you use it twice, you might as well have played seismic assault in the first place

    Quote from minouris »
I was having a conversation with my wife earlier about how to calculate whether a creature is worth its mana cost, and I got to thinking about how much mana the addition of an ability to a creature is worth.

Take Skitter of Lizards for example - R for a 1/1 seems to be less than ideal, whereas R for a 1/1 with Haste seems a little better. I'm honestly not sure how I feel about 1RR for a 2/2 with Haste, though - it seems like getting one extra attack for a measly 2 damage on turn three seems excessive. On the other hand, I'd cheerfully pay 1RR for a 2/2 with Flying.

What do you guys consider a fair cost for the addition of particular abilities?

This calculation is actually a very very deep one that's based mostly on opportunity costs.

so, for 1RR, you have to consider what else you could be doing with that 1RR. If you're thinking about standard, and your [m]1RR[/m] card is not as good as the cards you could be playing instead such as Flamewake Phoenix or goblin rabblemaster, then it's not worth the mana cost

I think that this might actually be able to see play in modern storm. It does come down a bit later than the storm deck might want to, but when It does come down, It makes it much easier for storm to go off.

In order of power, from top to bottom, I'd rank them like this

Liliana - on-curve body, easy to transform, gets extra creature when she transforms, and 2 good abilities
Gideon - savannah lions, easy to transform, gets even bigger after transform, has other utility too
Jace - merfolk looter, easy to transform, might cast 1 or 2 cards from your graveyard
Nissa - borderland ranger, slow to transform, but when she does, she draws cards, and can make dudes when she has to. This one will probably be bad in 60 card formats, but good in edh.
Chandra - slightly better than a prodigal pyromancer, difficult to transform, abilities do some damage

One of my pet peeves is people using cards in the graveyard and placing them facedown for tokens, often it's the card that generated the token.

I think that this has potential in standard. It works well with deathmist raptor, and it could be a decent role player in mid-range and ramp decks.

The name on the creature side shouldn't butt up against the mana cost like that; they'd change the name or reduce the size of the type a bit to get some space in there.

The activated ability is also templated wrong; they don't use a legendary creature's full name more than once in the rules text of a card. The second mention should just say "Chandra deals 1 damage..." at the start.

Copyright is definitely 2014 on the creature side as well.

Bad fake is fake. Archive-bound this is.

A good red planeswalker no less.
It's so obviously fake it's not even funny.

It's funny how "obviously" fake that people thought it was at first

  • posted a message on ONS fetchlands question
My experience is that new-frame cards tend to do slightly better than their old-frame counterparts. The ONS fetchlands will still retain their value well, but the KTK fetches will probably catch up just a bit. If you're looking for straight up value, then trading ONS fetches for KTK ones at the current market price is probably the right bet.

That being said, there are a lot of dynamics at play here, and you can't really predict this stuff accurately. It's not impossible that the old frame will go back in style, and that the older frames will begin to do better than newer frames again.

    1. What is the best way to make myself comfortable around these people? Should I straight out just make a point that I'm new to drafting?

Generally, someone should explain to you how to draft even if you don't tell them that you're new, but you might want to tell the tournament organizer/judge that you're new, just to remind them.

this is the instruction that I'll typically give:
Open your first pack, remove the non-foil basic land(not all groups remove the land) an the rules card, take 1 card, and then pass the pack to the left. Take the pack passed to you, take 1 card, and pass it to the left. Continue until the first pack is empty, and then open your second pack, and then do the same thing, except pass to the right. then do the same with the third pack and pass to the left. You can make a 40 card deck with the cards that you draft. there is no limit of how many of a single card you can put in your deck, basic lands are provided

    2. are new players generally distruptive to drafting? Will I be inconviencing people by being there?

New players aren't meaningfully disruptive to drafting.

    3. What is a 'rare draft'? That is what the store has listed for the event, is it the same as any other draft?

Usually, 'rare draft' means that when you pick your card, you pick the rare, more money valuable card over the card that gives you the best chance of winning. I've never heard it used to refer to the type of draft. you should ask the TO what that means

    4. After the tournament, what happens to the cards I played with?

You keep them. Sometimes there will be a Backdraft/redraft where you take out all your rares and foils, and the players draft those
