There are two reasons Force of Will cannot be reprinted in the Standard environment. One is that the card is objectively too powerful. The argument can be made that FoW is not overpowered within the context of the current metagame. While I don't disagree, the idea of a "free" counterspell runs contrary to the current trend where counterspells are intentionally overcosted/underpowered so as to deter players from relying upon them and so as to prevent countermagic from dominating the metagame. Thus, it cannot be printed.

Second, it is not possible to reprint a card in Standard without it affecting all other formats as well. While the card already exists in Legacy and Vintage (and has proven its status as a format staple time and time again), adding it to the Modern format would be opening a can of worms that I believe WotC would rather leave sealed at this point. The same is true for Extended (is that even still a thing?).

FoW isn't objectively powerful in a vacuum. It's power just scales to the meta. That's why it affects legacy more than it affected standard during it's run.

If it were re-printed, it most certainly would be very popular in modern, BUT it would only really be good against decks that are reliant on specific spells. it encourages decks to be more redundant and resilient. It will make other potentially degenerate cards more safe to print.

No, it's not. You know why ? It's card disadvantage. It's a great card in legacy and vintage because it stops combo decks from beating you in a single turn. Wizards hates combo decks and makes sure that standard has no combo
decks (last good combo deck in standard was dragonstorm).

Exarch twin was a thing after jace and stoneforge mystic were banned.

Yes, I understand this, but the point is, you can't abuse FoW with Snapcaster, you still have to pay 3UU to cast it, which is extremely inefficient.

Generally speaking, FoW fits the Delver deck's Method of Operation very very well, so if it were printed, It would make the delver deck(most played deck in the format) more powerful

Oh right, I forget how good Snapcaster is with 5CC counterspells... Oh wait. Rolleyes

you can pitch snapcaster and delver to FOW, and FOW flips delver.

Aren't there many instances where Pact of Negation is more useful than Force of Will? For example, specific combo decks (grapeshot, aluren, etc.) that win on the turn they go off might need that extra blue card to win, or they might not even have enough blue cards in their deck.

The reason I ask is because I don't see many decks running the pact at all. Everyone just seems to run Force of Will.

can Force of will be reprinted in standard?

My opinion is that the power of Force scales to the power of the environment. In a meta where your opponent isn't going to do broken things, It's really just another counterspell that causes card disadvantage instead of time disadvantage(you leaving mana up). It's not the kind of card you want to play against a zooish aggro deck, rather you want to play it against degenerate combos.

If the dumb combo pieces weren't banned, and FoW was legal....it'd just be Legacy 2.0... There'd be no reason to play modern.

Read a funny story about the original Time Walk design above. Richard Garfield was testing the new game(Magic) he was designing at a convention. After letting people play test with it, he had someone tell him that this one particular card was way overpowered. When it was played it almost always guaranteed a win the following turn. After thinking about it for a minute Richard laughed, then changed the text to say "You take an extra turn after this one." from the original text above.

    Funny story.

Why couldn't he have changed it to "target opponent skips his next turn"?
