Not that i expected much after MM2, but this is seriously dissapointing. First of all, this won't get new players into legacy. That's just a fact. Opening a random staple or two with 40 useless cards won't get anyone's legacy career started. And prices won't drop for most of the cards, considering the effects of MM2. Not to mention that the landbase is still ridiculously expensive and will never get reprinted.

So this set is not for people trying to get into legacy. But then for whom is it?

Is it for the draft enthusiasts? I doubt it. There has been a lot of rarity shifts upwards(''because of limited''), but what about down? Why isn't Fow an uncommon again? Counterspells are not that good in draft, especially ones that make you lose card advantage. Argothian enchantress and worldgorger dragon at mythic? Would they really break the format at rare? And of course, Shardless agent is a rare with BB elf in the same set at uncommon. Also why are these packs more expensive if they are just made for drafting? Innistrad was also made for drafting and is not that expensive. Let's not kid ourselves, Wotc clearly put secondary market prices before limited. So while people might certainly enjoy drafting this set, Wotc seems to have had a different group of people as their priority.

So the set was not made for people wanting to get into legacy, and the limited environment took a backseat to the secondary market. This set is just another lottery. Only people who are already deeply invested into the game will intentionally buy it, in hopes of opening that big lottery ticket, while at the same time covering up their gambling problem with ''if I don't get anything i will atleast get a fun draft'', even though there are better and cheaper ways of doing that. This is another rip-off and everyone who buys it will just enable further money-grabbing by Wotc.

    Spot on!

One thing I don't get is why they didn't throw online players a bone? Drafting EMA isn't worth the price of admission. They didn't include the online cards that are hard to get: Rishidan Port, Misdirection, Show and Tell, or Imperial Recruiter. I get that not all of them would be included... but not one? From what I can tell, there are only one or two cards worth more than 20 tix.

    Just very disappointing.

Well what a trainwreck this set is on mtgo. I get that in paper there are several big money pulls and there is reasonable excitement for those of you opening packs in person (which from what I gather is majority on this forum. But I did want to break stride and give a voice to mtgo players). But those same big money pulls are worthless online (for reference- crypt - $3 on mtgo, karakas - 39 cents on mtgo , vampiric tutor -22 cents on mtgo, etc etc).

Now this was bound to happen to some extent. But Eternal Masters basically took all the things that have been flooded via vma, promo, or pz1 and just threw them back in. Meanwhile chase cards that are in low circulation (and hence high value) that could have easily been put in this set like Port, Misdirection, Show and Tell were left out. I sold out of my ports last year thinking they would have to see a reprint. Then they announced Eternal Masters and I thought bingo. Guess I lost that bet. Never expected all of them to make it in. But none of the cards on mtgo worth more than $25 other than wasteland (from the set announcement none the less) making it in is a huge surprise.

On modo the set should be called "Eternal Masters: A high five to pauper players, A low five to uncommons" cause the only eternal help to the market is tanking pauper stuff like ancestral mask, hydroblast/pyroblast, firebolt and legacy uncommons in daze and therapy. For the rest of players you are praying you crack a wasteland. As thats the only way you live the finish up in pack value dream.

Really blown away at how little consideration must have been given to the mtgo marketplace when this set was created.

    Well said.

This is not worth buying online AT ALL. There is more value drafting Shadows Over Innistrad online. If you are hoping to crack Sneak Attack or Wasteland, just straight up buy them and avoid wasting your tickets!

    Such a let down.

Well, if these packs are being sold online for as much as the physical packs (9-10 tix), it just isn't worth it.

This set is a dud for online players.

I know it's probably blasphemy to admit, but I only play online. So far, this set isn't worth paying for online.

At rare, Wasteland is very hard to crack and it would be cheaper to just buy it outright(about 45 tix). Force of Will is worthwhile, but still not enough to purchase.

Rishidan Port would make buying boosters online very appealing. What are the chances it will show up?

really though when it is ever a good idea to crack packs on modo, its always just draft

I agree, it's not good to just open packs other than in draft.

I believe that so far, online, there are only two or three cards that have been spoiled that are over 20 tix, which makes a $9 pricetag too much.

Infinite Reflextion on an attacking Grave Titan is game over - right? Unless they have Fog...

    Edit: Nevermind - I just read "non-token".

If green/white decks become playable, it's going to be because of this set. The Soulbound mechanic seems designed for these two colors, particularly green. If the wolfir's "soulmate" connects even once, the card will probably have been worth it.

It already works well with the double strike, soulbound creature. If there are fairly-costed Soulbound creatures that grant hexproof or haste, it could get nasty.

He's solid those times you've run out of gas on turn four or five, which is common in monored burn:

You have an unnecessary land; use his ability and try for something new. Opponents will devote resources to him to prevent you from "stumbling" into a lethal Hero of Oxid Ridge, Hellrider, Huntmaster of the Fells, Incinerate, etc.

If they start holding back to allow for removal or counter magic, then they face a dilemma when he approaches four loyalty and a Sudden Impact.

Like other Planeswalkers, his ultimate will rarely factor into play.
