Just like their will be always people who whine about how the new released set is the worst set ever...

Which makes me laugh, having sat and worked through a box of Homelands to help a friend build a horrible cube, nothing will ever top that.

I'm not from the ones that argue, but damn, seeing those doomsday prophecies every spoiler season is getting a little bit too old. Can't people see that it has been repeated dozens of times in the past only to be proven as wrong time after time? I hope that each season the people who rant are different, because that would mean that they are refusing to learn from their mistakes, and that's sad.

Yep, trust me, it drives me mad. I want to see actual good discussion over cards, instead we have to deal with a flood of CONTROL IS DEADDDD topics everytime a ban happens or a set is spoiled or anything..

Do control players seriously need to rant every spoiler season? Legion's Initiative isn't half as good as you said it to be. For starters, it's a telegraphed Ghostway. You see it come. It hits the table, you see it's there, so you can plan on work around it.

Secondly, you do realize that there are these things, called Oblivion Ring and Detention Sphere, right? They can exile Legion's Initiative when it comes down, since they won't burst it in they turn, but in response to a wrath.

Third, tempo and midrange are some kind of "beating" control, and they are Top 8 nowadays. Junk Reanimator, Jund Midrange, Bant Control, Naya Midrange, Esper Control...

Fourth, we do have Boros Charm, but I didn't hear the same whining from control players when Wizards printed Mana Leak in M12. It's our Mana Leak. Learn to play around Boros Charm just like Aggro players learnt to play around Mana Leak and stop being so hypocrital like "OMG DUDEZ THEY JUST PRINTED A MASS INDESTRUCTIBLE SPELL OMGOMG IT'S CONTROL'S DEMISE", while Mana Leak or some insane counterspell is just fine. Did you heard some doomsday prophecies from aggro players when Supreme Verdict, Thragtusk, Sphinx's Revelation, Terminus and Obzedat, Ghost Council were printed? Me neither.

The format is not allowed to play now Counter-Control, as it actually takes less brain than to pilot an aggro deck: counter everything then drop a big dude, protect it, win. Instead, there are the builds with creatures that you said "aren't control" that actually require more skill than a pure draw-go control.

Also, for the fact, here's a list of the sweepers that you can run at the moment:

    - Supreme Verdict
    - Divine Reckoning
    - Killing Wave
    - Barter in Blood
    - Rolling Temblor
    - Overloaded Mizzium Mortars
    - Overloaded Cyclonic Rift
    - Merciless Eviction
    - Terminus

And only two "Control hosers" in the form of Boros Charm and Legion's Initiative, which players won't run as 8-of. It's even funnier, because half of the removal I listed play under Boros Charm's indestructible clause.

God damn, Control players are ceirtainly spoiled nowadays.

It effectively boils down to the old argument of:

"Turning creatures sideways isn't fun and its too easy" vs "Telling my opponent no isn't fun and its too easy"

Every spoiler season, every set that comes out its the same thing..

The lack of people acknowledging the joys of making red Rhinos and blue human tokens is beyond understanding. Do you not understand how unbelievably awesome it is? The potential for abuse?

"I'm going to make your Thraben Doomsayer spawn a blue human token", <opponent puts out a white one>, "Nuh uh, card says blue, and it needs to be distinguished."

Man, I'd play this card solely to be a jerk.

Cluestones may be worthless, but they're a necessary evil in limited really.

The majority of people are forced to run 3 color or 4 color in a typical draft or sealed setting. You need a LOT of fixing to make that work well and consistently. in 3x RTR or 3x GCR its not as noticeable as you can run mono or 2 without many issues, or even 3 due to shocks/gates/keystones. If you replace the third pack with a set that's much smaller, and has a lower chance for shocks, you're really hitting the fixing hard.

While it sucks hardcore for them to have to include them, for sealed particularly, it was a necessary evil.

Hey look at it this way, you can make something play tokens of a different color Wink

Also Trait Doctoring might be our "hint" card that bleeds into Theros and its mechanics.

Whatever happened to the utility land cycle? They previewed art for it during the RTR hype on Facebook.

    Showstopper has my vote.

JTMS was never legal in Modern to be the pinnacle of anything.

Not what I meant (sorry poor wording) I'm saying he's probably the most powerful card in Modern magic as opposed to the format (I would've said Magic, but there are cards way more powerful than him in the backreaches)

Modern needs a breath of life. The decks suck and lack variety. Unbanning JTMS and Bitterblossom evens the trinity between control, aggro, and combo, which is what makes everyone love Legacy.

It's strong, and that is what control needs in Modern.

I would rather see something new enter the format personally than bring back a card that is the pinnacle of Modern power. I'm waiting till Theros to see what could potentially be coming Modern's way since its the second year of "Modern in mind" design.

    A. It's $150 now.

    B. It gives them a valid reason to reprint JTMS.

Look at JTMS, ignore the fact you may own them or what have you.

Tell me that card isn't quite possibly one of the most powerful cards ever printed in the Modern environment. There's a reason they banned it and a reason it isn't being reprinted, and making it legal again won't fix that.

I love JTMS as much as the next guy and I'd love more opportunities to use mine, but it is NOT a healthy card for this format.

(Also holy crap $150? Glad I got mine when they were cheaper =D)

    No JTMS unbanning?
    Modern is official dead

"Hey I got a great idea, let's go through all the effort of making Modern affordable and accessible for players, then we unban an $80 "must run" planeswalker in every blue deck."

    Yea, not going to happen.

Also, I love combo as much as the next guy, but playing against Eggs was the epitome of everything unfun about Magic the Gathering. If you're going to combo, combo, but don't waste 45 minutes of my time to go get 8 lands and draw 12 cards and not do anything of value with it.

How is Vorel a fiasco? He is not really tournament playable, but not every card has to be. Casual and EDH players are going to have a blast with him. Let us have some treats too!

Teysa is a bit expensive for what she does. It's just Emmara and Mirko who are real bad and uncreative.

I love Vorel, everyone keeps comparing him to Guilder Bairn, but I like him better.

    Emmara/Mirko hurt my heart though.

I feel disappointed, while there are some cards I like a lot, and the flavor is really nice. There are a lot of things I'm not happy with, and about half the guild champions are completely unplayable to me in any format.

The Emmara fiasco however has left the worst taste in my mouth, I don't even play Selesnya, but the idea that development went against flavor and design to push a 4-of Mythic in the format doesn't sit well with me.

I know this has been said before, but, dear god, don't reprint Murder!

When I saw Murder spoiled, it was a slap in the face. I'm forever an MBC player and there is NO reason for Murder to exist. I understand that they had to give Doom Blade a break, but printing Murder after both Doom Blade and Go for the Throat were leaving Standard was heartbreaking.

    I beg to differ.

I think Murder is in a sweet spot, 3 for unconditional removal is fine. 2 for conditional is another. People just got spoiled on Go For the Throat because its condition was void 90% of the time.
