Hey everyone
So I took the Wish build out for modern last night and ended up 3-1, beating Titan shift twice and monogreen stompy, with my only lose being to dredge. Game 1, he looted and discarded a troll that he dredged into narcomeoba, 2 prized amalgams and a bloodghast. He killed me before I could go off. Game 2, I mulled to 2 and would have been fine had I drawn 2 lands, but I never saw then until it was too late.
My question is how is the dredge match up? It seems like had pieces fallen into place better, I'd have beat him no problem. It just looks like it didn't shake out that way. What's your thoughts? It's been a long time since I was playing magic, let alone modern, so it was exciting seeing a fairly diverse field.
How much extra mana do you find you have the turn you go off? You need 3BB for ad naus and W or 2W. So you gather that in mana rocks and lands and then you draw your deck. Assuming you haven't used a SSG yet, you'll have an extra red mana available when you combo. I'm just wondering for post board games, is it reasonable to bring in both scorn (which you can cast for free) and Hurkyl's Recall which will require an extra 2 mana when you go off?
What's everyone's opinion on glittering wish vs Spoils of the Vault builds? It seems like you sacrifice explosiveness for consistency when you go to a wish build. Is that correct? Which one is better to learn the deck with and which would you rather take into an unknown meta?
Yeah I'll try to remember how it went. We were all, for the most part, not very knowledgeable in legacy. It was just a tourney with friends as we're all trying to get into the format.
Aluren game 1 - he got down double deathrite early. I tried to get ahead of it, but I only managed to put him to 1 before dying. Game 2, I mulled to 5. I had a wispmare in hand for aluren but he just ended up playing a bunch of 1/1s and 2/2s, and I never got the engine started.
Grixis Delver - game 1 he had know idea how the deck worked and I ran him down quickly. Game 2, surgical extraction on bridge, snap extraction on ichorid put me out. Game 3, I didn't play around daze with careful study, proceeded to get a faithless looting forced, and then my one land got wastelanded. He didn't have much pressure at the time, but with 4 cards in hand and no way to out them into the bin, he had plenty of time to get a gurmag angler and deathrite down and kill me
Counterbalance - this guy one of the few guys in our playgroup who has legacy experience. It was the miracle version of the deck as a game 1 terminu shut down a bunch of zombies and ichorids, gettinger him ahead and winning the game off of a clique. Game 2, he slammed a turn 2 rip and asked "concede?". I had a putrid imp from turn 1, city of brass and colliseum in play. I had a feeling he had graveyard hate because he mulled pretty aggressively, so I hadn't committed to the graveyard yet. His rip resolved and I nature's claimed it, which got forced. Then, on my turn, I evoked wispmare. I layer the evoke sac trigger first, then the enchantment Destroy on top. I killed rip, then before evoke resolved, I discarded bridge with the imp. Evoke resolved and I got a 2/2. I proceeded to beat him up from there. I was pretty proud of that play. Game 3 went pretty long and containment priest combined with mentor/double top building guys for 1 mana was enough to lock the game down.
Show and tell
Game 1, he mulled to 6. I cabal therapied out his show and tell, then both his emrakul. It was a very loose keep on his side. 2 land, 2 emrakul, ponder and a brainstorm. I guess he just wanted to dig for show and tell but idk. Game 2, mull to 5. Early show and tell putting down griselbrand, backed up with counters got me. Game 3, I ended up having a 2/2 zombie in play. He felt the need to try and go off and fired off show and tell. He put in griselbrand and I put in ashen rider, shooting griselbrand. He responded by going to 10 and drawing 7. He then played grafdiggers cage. I untapped, attacked with rider and zombie and put him to 3. He cast sneak attack, put in emrakul and attacked. He annialated my board, but ashen rider exiled cage on the way out. On my upkeep I brought back ichorid and killed him.
So that's pretty much what happened. By no means, don't take this as how I think these matches will normally go. I have no idea how to pilot the deck, and most of my friends don't play legacy typically. Again, most of us are getting into the format, and wanted to try playing our decks we want to build. So that's that. What do you think? I can try to remember what I sided, but most of the time it was -3 LED, -3 Breakthrough and then +2 wispmare/ingot chewer, +x natures claim
Hey. So didn't quite get the best results. Went 1-3 but I had an absolute blast. Deck is unreal cool. I'm just curious if I played badly, or if my matches were poor match ups for this deck.
Counterbalance 1-2
Show and Tell 2-1
Aluren 0-2

A lot of the games felt like I made some pretty punishing missplays. What are your opinions about these matches?
This deck is just kinda garbage to combo and weak to bloodmoon and high tide effects. I'd suggest 4 path main as a hedge and then sb hate for combo. Fair decks and creature decks we can interact with are our bread and butter. I don't particularly like his abzan list. Tukatongue is the worst 1 drop, whereas young wolf is way better way more often. Leaves behind a larger, non-token creature and can block glistener elf for days. It's harder to stick him in the bin though, so if youre trying to go all in on the rally plan, he's probably worse.
Edit: my current list. Cuy bobs for evolutionary leap after durnam suggested it. Very impressed with the card as another aristocrat.
Considering -1 Tukatongue thallid and +1 ascendancy. I just wish there was a better 1 drop than him.
Anyways, after playing with evolutionary leap and with how strong voice and abzan ascendancy both are, I find it hard to reason against playing the abzan version if this deck. We have the best traveler in voice, one of the best aristocrats in leap now, and the second best artist in ascendancy.
I don't think switching Bob for wall is correct. Bob is card advantage whereas wall is card parity. You say you want wall for against faster aggro decks but we already play cartel aristocrat and blood artist, not to mention infinite chump blockers. I've never had an issue with fast small creature decks and I take 6 damage from my lands each game easily. Not only that, but Bob can attack which is so relevant.
Also, I don't like skirsdag high priest but there's gotta be better cards than silver inlaid dagger out there.

On another note, what are the pros and cons of the transformational side?
