Quote from MockingbirdIf you want, you can splash in land destruction to get maximum hatred with Teneb. Let me give an example of what someone did to me.
My opponent Mortify-ed my Primeval Titan. Then revived it with Teneb. They didn't trigger the land searched though because he then Armageddoned... I scooped.
I am testing Cataclysm to see if it's a viable win condition in conjunction with most of the fatties in my deck.
I mean, is pulling a Sad Robot or something from someone else's deck really that bad? It's not a beater or a early game win, but it's not BAD either, especially if you do what I do and ramp up to it for a T3 grab. If you have a free slot and you play blue (especially mono blue) I'd say go for it. It can't hurt, right?
But yes, I agree that the more knowledgeable you are in regards to your meta's decks, the better it is. But it doesn't have to be some crazy wincon either. I remember one time I cast Bribery, took a Jund guy's Woodfall Primus, and targeted the third Grixis guy's Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker that was about to pop its ult next turn. Not game ending, but it saved me a lot of hurt.
Hey, yeah! That'd be great. I have a few questions, how would you like me to get them to you? Post here, in your primer, or PM you?
This was actually a very useful resource, thanks! I added a ton to the list because of it!
Also, yeah, Stranglehold is great. I run it in my Tariel dack. Black and blue decks find it infuriating lol.
Added. I especially like that interaction with Cyclops Gladiator. Fun times!
Right, I'm off. I'll check back later.
Hey, thanks, that's some really solid advice! I was kind of beating my head against how to recover from board wipe in mono red to the point the obvious eluded me: don't overextend. I wanted to do extra combat stuff mostly to drive in more damage, but those slots could also be used to make it harder for people to deal with them in the first place. You make a good case for Sulfuric Vortex. It's just a shame Rain of Gore has black in the color identity. That'd be closer to what I'd want and it's potentially flavorful with a bunch of warriors on a killing spree. : P I did include things like Sword of Body and Mind and Obsidian Battle-Axe in, half for their damage, half for their value effects. Feast and Famine was in there because it combos with Hellkite Charger for infinite combat steps (it's a sickness, I can't help it!)
Great stuff. I'll add them to the list.
Some of these cards might hit you too, but the point of stax is using universal harm to your benefit. In other words, find ways to outplay those cards so they hurt your opponents more than they hurt you. Eg. Root Maze isn't that bad with Azusa out, because you're likely already outperforming your opponents in the mana ramp department anyway.
*Edit What about Ward of Bones? Just to keep fools from getting ahead of you.
*Edit edit Garruk Wildspeaker to get around Winter Orb effects. Also gives some token fodder for sacrifice outlets, like Smokestack.

So yeah, I'd love some ideas on where to go from here. Just give me some cards and I'll add them to the list.
But seriously, some of the best removal spells in MTG are in WBR. You want to have a healthy supply of at least spot removal and sweeper spels. This sounds kind of obvious, but combine this with the fact that Tariel snatches cards from graveyards, I'm really just highlighting the importance of exploiting this. Not only can you pluck things with Tariel, there are a number of fun and very exploitable interactions with things hitting the graveyard. Of particular note is Mimic Vat, which can imprint whatever creature goes from play to the graveyard. VERY fun if you grab something like Wurmcoil Engine. Adarkar Valkyrie is also very good at doing this.
Then there's enabling Tariel. Something that immediately comes to mind is Wheel of Fortune/Magus of the Wheel. Opponents all tutoring for a grip full of fatties? Make everyone dump their hands! If you build around it, Sire of Insanity is downright oppressive and gives you a steady supply of bodies to dig up. Bottomless Pit/Necrogen Mists might also fit this role, though, admittedly to a less dramatic degree. I suppose if you go the Honden route, Honden of Night's Reach could work too.
Here's some rogue stuff I've been looking at (obviously not going to put all of them in, but the following are cards that stood out):
1 Akki Underminer
1 Cephalid Looter
1 Contraband Kingpin
1 Coral Trickster
1 Corrosive Mentor
1 Daring Thief
1 Deathcult Rogue
1 Dhund Operative
1 Disciple of Deceit
1 Earwig Squad
1 Faerie Macabre
1 Frogtosser Banneret
1 Geier Reach Bandit
1 Goblin Racketeer
1 Gonti, Lord of Luxury
1 Gravelgill Duo
1 Grenzo, Havoc Raiser
1 Grotag Siege-Runner
1 Harbor Bandit
1 Inkfathom Infiltrator
1 Invisible Stalker
1 Jeering Instigator
1 Jhessian Thief
1 Keeper of Keys
1 Keldon Vandals
1 Kruin Outlaw
1 Latchkey Faerie
1 Looter il-Kor
1 Lurking Informant
1 Marchesa's Emissary
1 Marsh Flitter
1 Merfolk Looter
1 Merrow Witsniper
1 Neurok Commando
1 Neurok Spy
1 Nezumi Shortfang
1 Notion Thief
1 Oona's Blackguard
1 Oona's Prowler
1 Orcish Spy
1 Paperfin Rascal
1 Pestermite
1 Riptide Pilferer
1 Rootwater Thief
1 Sakashima the Imposter
1 Spireside Infiltrator
1 Stealer of Secrets
1 Stinkdrinker Bandit
1 Sygg, River Cutthroat
1 Thada Adel, Acquisitor
1 Thoughtcutter Agent
1 True-Name Nemesis
1 Knowledge Exploitation
1 Notorious Throng
1 Morsel Theft
1 Thieve's Fortune
1 Cloak and Dagger
Question is though, is it viable? I mean, I recognize that it'll probably be a more casual deck, but could I build this tribe to be consistent?
Also, what general should I play? I've thought about both Sygg, River Cutthroat and Gwendlyn Di Corci. On one hand, Sygg gives great synergy with turning creatures sideways, offering card advantage. Building around evasion, I could reliably draw cards at the end of each of my turns. However, Gwendlyn opens me up to red, which means I get things like Rage Reflection, Hammer of Purphoros, Geier Reach Bandit/Kruin Outlaw, Goblin Racketeer, and Grenzo, Havoc Raiser.
What does everyone think? Can I build something interesting out of this?
