True, the thing is that this guy can tap down all their lands (presumably) turn four and five, which I feel like would be the ideal turns to do so. After that, yes, you might not hit all their lands, but turning a turn six into a turn one shouldn't be taken lightly.

I would say you underestimate significantly how championing a creature changes the power of that creature. It changes Mistbind Clique from an anywhere card into a fairy-heavy only card. If you simply removed the championing clause, you'd change the card from a must in fairies to a must in blue - which is a big difference.

You're right, my cards aren't the same as the golem - they're not necessarily better either, I was just brainstorming some alternates.

I slightly disagree with you though - I feel like it isn't large enough to deter most decks from running it. Think about extended Zoo; All your creatures are bigger than, and will not trade with, a 2/2. Think about white weenie, or any other rush; You're giving yourself an extra turn to win essentially, and if they have a 2/2 to chump the biggest dude, you'll still run them over and finish them off. Think about control; You drop this guy turn three/four/five and then Unsummon, Call to Heel, or something similar that lets you lock down your opponent once more.

Maybe not as prevalent in Standard, but this card definitely fits in a really, really large number of decks, or at least that's how I feel about it.

    compare to mistbind clique

Hardly. One of them costs mana, requires you to have a specific creature type in play, gives YOU a sizable body with evasion, and THEN locks down your opponents lands.

Your card costs nothing, requires nothing, gives THEM a fairly small creature given that you're capable of locking them down even on turn 5, and THEN locks down your opponent's lands.

At the cost of 0, it really seems like your opponent should actually want this creature, so the size probably needs to go up. That, and the issue still is that any color can gain access to this card; Assuming it's strong enough to be played, everyone would toss some in their deck. Assuming it's weak enough to the point nobody wants to play it, this won't matter.

    Unfortunately, this means you probably need to give it a color, which means it won't be "free" exactly - but you can make it almost free. Not entirely sure which direction you want to take it but, the first thing that came to mind was;

    XG
    Instant
    Convoke
    Tap X target lands.

    Leaving yourself wide open can allow you to lock down your opponent for a turn! Or perhaps;

    W
    Instant
For each permanent you control, remove it and target permanent from the game. At the end of turn, return each permanent removed from the game in this way to play.

Sort of a "soft lock" that plays off of the opposite end of white's sense of balance.

The blue one seems to obvious, and red and black have to extend their borders a bit far (or at least, there is no obvious answer.)

As silly as this thread is, I really like what you've done with slivers. Slivers are very powerful, but fairly boring in the sense that they all give each other abilities, and not much else.

Making non-sliver cards that interact with slivers opens up brand new doors! However, I'm otherwise not certain why it would need to be Kamigawa :p

Hubris is really weak in most scenarios, to be honest. Especially at sorcery, since it doesn't wipe the board, the only time you'd ever want to play it is if all your creatures were vanilla. Instant speed is a must, for starters.

The main problem with the last card is that there's really no reason why you wouldn't just go all out once with the card, and then basically win. If you pay, say, 12 life, they lose 10 life and sacrifice ten permanents; odds are they won't really stabilize, and you'll just pop the spell again once a turn, every turn.

For defense purposes, I'd be fine with a Planeswalker that feels like it's defending for YOU. Something like a +3 damage that says creatures can't attack unless they're attacking CARDNAME, or something along those lines could be fun.

    To Dragonmeat,
Yes, I know the difference is never negative, but instead, when negative its equal to 0. Thus giant growth would give +3/+3 still, not +9/+3.

Even so, I like the idea, and flowstone creatures need more love anyway. I've only ever seen Flowstone Hellion used. We need to give Flowstone Slide some love too!

To clarify, the "difference" is still a positive, non-zero number. The key here is that the "reduction" only returns a positive (or zero) result.

    1/1 +3/+3 gives you a difference of 3, but a reduction of 0.
    4/4 -3/-3 gives you a difference of 3, and a reduction of 3.

  • posted a message on Filling the Design Gaps: The UR problem
The only problem I have with UR is when they do things either color really could. Swerve is a nice card, but it could be red, and it could be blue. Taking the blue and red aspects of damage and tweaking them isn't really enough in my book, and as much as I love Electrolyze, it's definitely damage plus card draw.

That being said, if you take a look at other cards in those colors, UR has a very strong basis.

    Spell-slinging Titan 4G

When Spell-slinging Titan comes into play, you may pay R. If you do, sacrifice it, and Spell-slinging Titan deals 5 damage to target creature or player.

  • posted a message on Painful Recovery, Mystical Mount, 2 more
Painful Recovery is nice, I was thinking about the speed of reanimation and realized that speeding it up, but slowing you down, would probably work out to being just right.

Quick rules question (just curious) - since you sacrifice it as an additional cost, would you be able to choose the same sacrificed creature as a target when placing it on the stack?

Turbulent Skies is great - I agree, it might be entirely possible to have it cost U, then 2G, but I also think it's very elegant at its current cost. Also, I think kicker is THE way to combine those two halves into a single card, well done sir!

Although in an ideal situation, you'd use it to sneak a fatty through while taking out one of their fliers. (Unless you meant for both targets to be the same creature, but that'd just be a quick chance from "target", to "that".)

Mystical Mount is mostly just worse than Ronom Unicorn, in the same rarity slot, for 1 more. Don't get me wrong - I myself run a Unicorn deck, mostly for the amusement of beating people with Unicorns in multiplayer from time to time, but what they really don't need right now is slightly slower version of ones that already exist D:

    Poor unicorns...

Fartbasket is the epitome of card design, except flavor-wise I can't help feeling like a basket would not be tightly woven enough to contain a fart!

Well yeah, like Guttural Response for sure. I understand what you're saying, but like TheOnlyOne said; it would need some kind of current interaction to be interesting, in which case we'd both win - if it works well in both T2 and beyond, then everyone wins!

And hey now - check up on your T2 - Tezzeret isn't bad in Standard anymore! Wink

I agree with r_e, the first design is very elegant, and seems uncommon-worthy. I don't know, putting it up against Reflecting Pool, I just can't quite see it becoming a rare, especially with how viable a lot of silly multicolored (producing) lands are these days.

I like how people were arguing what Cascade really "meant" and what colors really "felt" for it. That's like saying a card with multiple instances of Clash "should" be blue/green - or at the very least, not black. In reality, I think it depends heavily on the flavor of the card; To be honest, I liked WU because the colors seemed fine, and it seemed like an intricate array of arcana generated two random spells. I would also like a RU version that had a more chaotic flavor to it, but I really feel like the flavor makes it.

Dragon Hellion is an awesome card; The first thing that came to mind was a picture of the traditional chivalrous knight running away from a bounding, scaled mass of death Smile
