So I'm trying to get back into standard and I wanted to make my own deck for once instead of just trying to emulate the best ones. I saw one card in my collection Evernight Shade and I really liked the art and the whole idea of "shades".
I was hoping for some help making a sideboard. Any comments or suggestions are welcome on the decklist itself! I'm currently still assembling it, but durdling around with it on Cockatrice didn't turn out too bad.
My main goal is to find the lands in either traditional or simplified Chinese. (Traditional is prefered, as I think it looks nicer) If possible, I'd like to grab 8 or 9 of each of the various art for the lands to use in my decks.
And if I can, just know a good place to find the cards so when I am able to dedicate money to it, work on creating an ancient China cube. I think it would be awesome to be able to draft the various kingdoms (And just to have the legends ready for EDH for casual decks!)
By Starswirl's beard! There's a pony thread on MTGSalvation?
AND I HAVEN'T POSTED IN IT YET!
I'm gonna agree with what Lithl said. The latest episode did seem a bit rushed, but they can't all be two-parters(although I wish they could...) I'm hoping to see some more Discord in the future now! (And more Luna too! We need more Luna!)
So I've recently been very interested in the Portal series of Magic sets, specifically Portal Three Kingdoms.
Now I know this set was printed in Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, and English.
I've always heard the English release was the most limited and rare, but it is the only version I can ever seem to find! Is there some secret corner of the internet hoarding all the Chinese P3K or am I just that bad at finding cards?
Comboing for 10 minutes is why eggs is boring. Boring to watch, boring to play, boring to play against. Especially given how underwhelmingly repetitive a combo it is.
While I may agree that it is boring to play against or watch, I do not think it is boring to play at all. The deck takes a good bit of thought while playing it to ensure you do everything in the proper order and have a lower chance of fizzling! That and keeping track of your mana makes for a fun thought exercise.
I'm gonna say Eggs due to my intense hatred of Storm. Plus Eggs is so fun! You get to go through your whole library and show off any altered or pimped cards to your opponent while you combo for 10 minutes~!
I did not notice this card before. Thanks!
Well TBH I only wanted to have Ice Age and Alliances at first, but I guess I could include revised as well. My main goal is to have a snow-themed, matching old card deck. Is Revised done the same as Ice Age/Alliances/Homelands or was it 4th Edition that is the same as it was released in 1995? In which case, I may as well include Antiquities as well as it was released the previous year and led up to the events of the Ice Age.
And I do like this card. I want the deck to be a more controlling feel, but the commander lends more to a voltron-deck I feel like.
This is a more dedicated list to the Lord himself instead of messing around with the game state. It also includes cards from Homelands, which I'm not sure if that messes with the flavor or not. I need to test it on Cockatrice to see if there's gonna be mana issues though...(Spoiler: There will be.)
i would put more creatures in it, the Lord ask for two of them if you want to summon him...
also, i love Zur's Weirding with Necropotence.... but i would take out Demonic Consultation.
That's a good point. Lord is there mainly for color reasons as there aren't many legends in the two sets, and Merieke Ri Berit is actual the commander of someone else in my playgroup and I wanted to be different...
But I do agree more creatures...I'm going to look for possible equipments and buffs too...Not sure if I want to allow Homelands into this deck... Old sets in general I feel are good, but I want all the cards to match, so they need the same level of color/border style.
...Also why no Demonic Consultation? It's great land ramp!
So I was toying around with the idea of having a second EDH deck made entirely from old snow cards. I really love the idea of a snow deck and I love the old borders, so basically the deck is Ice Age/Alliances cards only.
Just thought I would show off the list and see what the forum thought of it and if I might get any suggestions to improve it. It's supposed to be budget, so when I do get extra money I can buy it so no Force of Will.
It's meant to be more of a political deck where you can do things for other players to help you in the long run. Win cons include reanimating those creatures that your other table members let die, stealing the living, and sometimes just wiping the board and trying to get in there with your 10 power general for an alternative win.
Overall, I feel the power level is quite low, but the fact its ALL Ice Age and Alliances and old borders makes me really happy.
I like the suggestion of Crystal Ball and Mind's Eye. Maybe Soothsaying, but I will definitely look into some repeatable draw. I feel ponder and preordain can be justified though as they are low drop draw filters, and they help to dig for combo pieces early. They are also targets for recursion such as Mnemonic Wall, Archaeomancer, and when I finally decide to buy one Snapcaster Mage.
First of all, let me say that my first ever general was Teferi, and I quickly learned that was a bad idea. People HATE teferi, and will probably attack you just because he's your general.
This happens with most mono blue generals, but especially ones like Teferi, Azami, Arcum, and Venser.
I do play on making a secondary deck if I enjoy the format, a wizard tribal with Azami, but that's for another day/thread...
I never understood why mono blue is so hated? I mean I could play Oona and have black too!
okay, so literally YOUR ENTIRE DECK is composed of things that make people want to hit you, just saying
I was somewhat aware of this when I was making the deck, but...Much of my amusement comes from making others angry~
Thada looks quite fun as well. I think I'll add one to my list when I get more cards! Unfortunately, I personally think she looks a bit weak as a general. I'd need to restructure the deck to abuse islandwalk and get her through to steal thinks though.
So here's the decklist:
4 Liliana's Shade
4 Evernight Shade
4 Gateway Shade
4 Crypt Ghast
1 Griselbrand
Instants
2 Ultimate Price
4 Victim of Night
2 Tribute to Hunger
2 Gilded Lotus
Sorcery
4 Mutilate
2 Rakdos's Return
Planeswalkers
1 Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker
Land
4 Rakdos Guildgate
4 Blood Crypt
4 Watery Grave
2 Dragonskull Summit
12 Swamp
2 Slaughter Games
2 Pithing Needle

Maybe Benalish Commander to spit out tokens each turn and eventually form a large body himself?
*edit*
Hour of Reckoning also comes to mind for token strategies.

Opinions? ^-^

Okay no, my favorite is either wizards or changelings.
I like how wizards just feel so...magical!
And changelings are ALL THE THINGS!
