for those of you that don't know me I am Nahadoth I have been playing Magic (casually) since 7th addition on and off until the Time Spiral Block when I lost track of the game all together until Scars of Mirridon (casually) until the 6th of January of 2012 was the start of my competitive magic playing (only FNM) at first then I started Top 8-ing and getting first, then I started going to more tournaments and so on, played at states and got 3rd (in Wisconsin).
I am writing this blog because I am excited about Magic in general but mostly about "GTC"(Gatecrash) and Standard or I SHOULD say the future Meta of Standard!
Now I obviously can't really tell you what will be good and what the top tiers will be (if any, with this open of a meta) although it most new set releases in mtg I like to brainstorm and plot about what I will be playing when the set is released (I know its early in the spoiler season for "GTC" but as soon as I saw
Borborygmos Enraged
Legendary Creature - Cyclops
Trample
Whenever Borborygmous Enraged deals combat damage to a player, reveal the top three cards of your library. Put all land cards revealed this way into your hand and the rest into your graveyard.
Discard a land card: Borborygmos Enraged deals 3 damage to target creature or player.
now at first I thought he was a bad card and I dismissed it for a week then for some reason I took another look and thought 3 Damage for Discarding a Land? most deck have a lot of those and 7 Lands is 21 Damage! that is enough to kill someone with out attacking them even once... (that is if they didn't gain life.)
this all got me thinking about the style of deck and how I should approach the inception of and 2 things came to mind:
#1. "Wolf Run Ramp"(Ramp) using Ramp Spells/Creatures "Primeval Titan" to ramp up and kill your opponent with Kessig Wolf Run.
#2. "Scapeshift" (Combo/Ramp) basically ramp up to 6-7 mana and play Scapeshift (with counter backup) into Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle and a few Mountains and win on the spot.
Both of the above^ are pretty similar in that they win by ramp now Wolf Run mostly brought the beats, Scapeshift brought the combo/control both of them were traditionally and both had a habit of Splashing for Counter Spells.
Now I believe that could be a possibility I think is where its at especially with all the shocks around so we have our main colors and a basic idea of what the deck is consisting of
here is a vague list of cards we should consider sorted via (Combo, Ramp, Disruption)

Recent additions
Charmbreaker Devils - didn't think much of this card when it first came out and only really saw fringe play but I think this could be a decent part of the combo or just a Kessig Wolf Run target.
Magmaquake - I personally don't like this card but if we do not get a pyroclasm type card in GTC its this or the even worse Rolling Temblers for fast FW on the side of Bonfire of the Damned
Seek the Horizon - possibly a horrible card but 1 card that gets you 4 lands is alot of damage(12) with our friend Borborygmos Enraged
Gem of Becoming - is another possible option maybe a little worse but you can get shocklands with it so who knows
Reliquary Tower - its a land and it lets us have a big hand, worse case scenario we use it as a colorless land or discard it.
check back for updates as spoilers are released and feel free to contribute. :gruul::simic::izzet:
