Oct 19, 2012MorrainTheCorruptor posted a message on Over/Under #4Posted in: Cz BlogQuote from CzI don't like it and I wouldn't purchase or play it. Kokusho, the Evening Star, Wurmcoil Engine, Massacre Wurm and Grave Titan are all stronger in my mind. Even Harvester of Souls figures to give me more value on average. The card clearly isn't nothing, but at the same time it's not the 6 drop that I want to be playing. The competition at that slot is extremely stiff and this thing just isn't quite up to par. It certainly seems fine in metas that are light on removal and flying defense, I'll give it that, but it just doesn't strike me as a "game ender."
The important thing to remember is that you play it, swing with it, and the NEXT turn it's actually something good. That's expecting it to live for far too long in my mind. I need my value
sooner then that. Sure, if you have an army she's good, but I mean if you have an army that can attack profitably then you're probably doing fine anyways. She's not a good card when you're on the back-foot, and her standalone power just isn't there relatively speaking.
She is not stand alone I'll give you that, but some very nice and effective decks play her. Such as black/blue rouge. Unblockables for blue, and strong removal for black. Those are good decks that I have lost to, they prevent my creature output, ending my operation, then whe they have a sufficient amount of unblockables they bring her out. And an interesting card I have seen in the sideboard of these legacy decks is the card Phyresis (think I got that right) which completely changes the concept of the game. Giving and unblockable infect is one thing, but give it infect and double it's power each turn is different. I believe it's underrated in legacy, in standard I have no use for it but legacy and commander are 2 things that work for me in that regard.
Another card I want you to look into is Coat of Arms I swear this is the last one. My little brother has it, and has an all human-cleric deck with the commander Elish-Norn, Grand Cinobite I know I got that wrong but you know what I mean. Ok he refuses to put coat of arms in his deck even though I have begged and pleaded he won't do it. I have him read your articles for some education I learn some he learns... Well a lot. He doesn't quite understand how much that card would help him
Thanks -

Oct 15, 2012MorrainTheCorruptor posted a message on Over/Under #4Posted in: Cz BlogQuote from CzSuspend doesn't make it more flexible. A card that doesn't do anything for 3 turns after you first cast it is far from flexible. The problem with playing "rituals" (single-shot ramp effects) in fair decks is that speed doesn't overcome card disadvantage. Yes, you got your fatty out sooner, but you're also down a card. I could just as easily play Worn Powerstone on turn 3 and cast a Wurmcoil Engine on turn 4 and I still have that Powerstone for the rest of the game. Thran Dynamo? Same thing. Getting one card out faster doesn't mean much unless it wins the game on the spot. Multiplayer games tend to run long and so you'll probably have the chance to play all of your spells anyways. As such, wasting a card to play a spell that you could just played a few turns later is quite bad. You now have fewer cards to work with after all. That's why no one plays Lotus Bloom in anything, even constructed. It's just not a good, reliable, consistent card.
You know the funny thing is after I posted this I looked at the card again, went crap I did read the rules wrong! I was thoughtless when I read this (ergo didn't realize complete rules of rituals). Oh well accidents happen! What are your thoughts on Tormented Soul? -

Oct 14, 2012MorrainTheCorruptor posted a message on Over/Under #4Posted in: Cz BlogQuote from CzI really don't agree that the Rising needs a specific deck to work. You basically just need to be playing with creatures in general. I hate building around things because your deck always end up gimmicky and weak. As such, I basically never do it. That being said, I've never been unimpressed with the Rising.
I know that this is personal bias talking, but I basically can't think of a better answer to Wraths. I play in a removal-heavy meta and so you need to expect to lose your board every 3 turns or so. As such, you never want to commit a lot to the board, but you also can't ever have nothing. This card is the absolute nuts with respect to "doubling" all of your creatures. You play one guy and get your free 5/5 out of the deal. Next turn you can play something or nothing; it doesn't matter. Either way you have a solid defense and you can always start attacking if you want. People kill one of your dudes? You get another one. They don't? They just took like 8+ damage and you can always drop a body post-combat.
Everything thinks that the card is situational or hard to extract value from, but it really isn't. Just do your thing and play your spells and you'll be amazed at how much value it can provide you over the course of a game.
That was enlightening me... I still think it's kind of situational, you need to have that kind of thing to happen, wraiths practically every 3 turns. Where I am that doesn't happen much, wraiths are rare and effective where I am. I like the sound of that kind of thing to happen, but it It is very hard to find. Yes you don't have to dig really deep to extract this cards value but it is kind of situational. But deffinently not as much as I thought.
The bias thing, is kinda sorta, but it is needed in this article. So you and I may have different opinions on this card, and that is fine. Your bias article, (yes it is but trust me in a GOOD WAY!) is very informative enlightening people like me. I like how you sometimes bring up random cards I've never heard of! I learn about not only a new card but I can be told if it is worth it. The kithkin is useful to me because my brother has so many of those and he hates them for some reason, I can get then for a fair price or trade, so thanks for telling me about that card.
I wish we could see completly eye-to-eye on this card but I can see we might not meet at a perfect level. Oh well I overall love these articles! Keep doing more!
By the way look out at Lotus Blossum for the next thing. I went around using it recently, and people just don't like it! Which surprises me! They are saying Black Lotus is better, even though they do the exact same thing, only lotus blossom has suspend! Which makes it more flexible! I must be reading it wrong or something because they won't have any part in that card. Except for 1-3 other sane people I know -
Oct 13, 2012MorrainTheCorruptor posted a message on Over/Under #4I agree completely with you, and I wish things were what they were worth overall. Momentary Blink is a card I have allways hated. I could use a Cloudshift and Tamiyo, the Moonsage final ability. Now we have something amazing. Demonic Rising I agree... Sort of.. Yes it is a decent card, but you truly need the right cards to make it work to it's potential. A card I love that works with wraiths is Blood Artist and Rage Thrower. That, a Day of Judgement, Fresh Meat and Faith's Reward is something that I truly need. I love it because I have used that combo in my human legacy. Sep 16, 2012MorrainTheCorruptor posted a message on Tezzeret AffinityNice job! When I saw this I thought this is gonna be a simple deck with like 5-6 extremely expensive cards. You did well keeping it under wraps. If you wait a bit, you can get Tezzeret for less because everyone's getting rid of them before they go out. Sadly the Mox will stay as it is seeing as that wonderful card in from the vault legends is here. I really don't think you need the thoughtcasts. Useful card you just don't need it here. You have reasonable card mana cost that are artifacts. Maybe one or 2 should do but not 4. Good luck with the deck though!Posted in: cwuwildcat Blog

Sep 5, 2012MorrainTheCorruptor posted a message on Maelstrom Wanderer EDHPlease realize read over all land quantitys again. Overall good deck! You have restored my faith in cascade decks! So many people jam in all cascade cards. Ive faced one and ran over it with my one and only Riku deck! I'll definently have more trouble with this deck though. You did a nice job with it, but I have a Yeva in the deck. Who doesn't want to give a cascade cascade general flash! good luck with the deck though.Posted in: Jenesis Blog

So that idea was out from the start. I don't like splashing colors unless completely nessecary.
