So did they just pull Iconic Masters 3.0 on us now? First Iconic, then Masters 25, and now Modern Horizons?

I don’t quite think so. There are definitely cards that will hold financial value for EDH play alone. At the same time, we really haven’t seen all that much that’s truly Modern worthy. The Force cards, sans the white one, seem to be decent. And don’t forget the land cycle will age incredibly well and really push up the value of the box.

I feel like there hasn’t been all that much greatness for Modern, and I’m not sure what reprints we’ve seen that are great for Modern. I just think due to the land cycle as well as all of the other mythics, financial value shouldn’t be terrible. If boxes are $200 estimated retail, and you can get them for a few bucks cheaper, packs are essentially $5.50 a piece, and I do think there will be a few rares that can meet/beat that. I’m just not super hyped with regards to the playability of this set. I do think the nostalgia is great, though.

hell the new Sliver will DEFINITELY keep or gain value... consider the costs for Sliver Queen, Sliver Legion, and Sliver Overlord... and this sliver is easily a better sliver than them.

this bear is hilarious. I do have to say though, if you are planning on making a Bear deck, i suggest getting some Cloudstone Curio..

Take advantage of the fact that bears are cheap, keep spamming your bears to rack up counters.

Throw in Alluren for infinete powered bears and boardwipes.

If they somehow made Aluren legal in modern, we could see a potentually competitive G bear deck -.-....

I think the relevance of this is contingent on whether white gets any useful blink effects. If once this lands there are other creatures or spells that can blink this and effectively cause instant speed discard (plus life gain) there’ll be a home. Mm cloudshifting in your opponents draw phase for lifegain and instant discard...

And today we see Justicar's Portal, which is the common Cloudshift effect that Bell-Haunt wanted.

(1W instant, exile target creature you control, return under owner's control, gets first strike).

My you-thought-he-was-tapped creature is now a surprise blocker. With first strike. And you discard a card. And I gain 3 life.

We also have the stupidity with that siege ram thing... exile this dude to the ram thing, exile THAT ram to another ram, returning the bellhaunt.

Like pillowfort decks needed another card to be utter annoying. Oh and in Commander you do have access to Helm of the Host which ensures triggers every turn.

Between our burn, and lots of 1 mana 1/1s with haste, we may just see the return of Rx Sligh...

Might as well play In Bolas's Clutches if you want to steal Teferi for 6.

Except by then a player can counter it, you play this early, can potentially dodge counters and can prevent players from even casting teferi or another PW until it is dealt with.

That ram is... brutal... 3 mana for a 4/4 vigi trampler??? ATLEAST? Can be up to a 5/5 for 3 if all your lands are gates. I am almost tempted to make a gates matter deck for the lulz

Considering how many 1/1s with haste for 1 we have this can get really funny... combined along side with burn, you can easily just blow people up with fast puny dudes...

What we really need is legendary Oozeatog - Eat an ooze, create 2 copies of the ooze it ate. In Jund or Temur

Or an ooze that can make a token clone of a creature that died except it is an ooze in addition to its other types...

Or an ooze that gets bigger for every other ooze and creates copies of itself whenever it takes damage.

Could be funny in Grixis Control with the amount of discard they have...

This is a tough card to deal with.

I hope this becomes a standard deck with Mirror Image. Infinite ETBS on turn 6 (or earlier with ramp).
You can play with Arcades and a bunch of walls to basically draw your deck.

Or Aviation Pioneer for infinite thopters.
Or Homarid Explorer to mill your opponent.
Or Sailor of Means for infinite mana.
Or Skymarch bloodletter to win the game.

Honestly... not sure which colors would work best for a combo like this, and it is not very fast, but it's a combo.

GRuw combo? you use Nikya and Goreclaw to get around the huge mana cost and to colorfix/ramp. it... could be hilarious actually XD

Furthermore, you only need 2 of these or one of these and a Mirror Image to get infinite ETB triggers. I dont know why people are saying 3... with two you would just infinitely flicker the creatures xD.

Grand Arbiter Augustin IV can finally be a tribe leader in EDH.

This is so gonna make Thrumming Stone jump again...

I am curious to see how this will stack up with Thrumming-Rats style decks or Thrumming-Shadowborn Apostle decks. Personally I would be tempted to add Paradox Engine for lulz. Reveal a dude, in response to cast, tap all my dudes, cast the petitioner, untap all my dudes, rinse and repeat XD

I'd feel like that'd be a solid way to go.

Or find a G/U general which would let you untap everything consistently.

Could be fun! Or just annoying -- who knows!?

I feel it would probably be best in a U/B Phenax deck or UWx.
B gives access to the best tutors combined with U. And with the two together, you get access to Leyline of the Void and Bojuka bog. W would give you access to RiP which would be very helpful as well. Phenax's biggest help though is that he gives you a fall back plan if they get rid of Thrumming Stone, as He, himself is a mill commander.
