I play at Comic Lair in Hamilton.

We actually play in the adjacent building which can support about 50 people. Prize support is great and the players are top notch. If you wanted to go there and see what it's like, they're hosting a Grand Prix Trial for GP Philly on Sunday.

For a minute, lets assume this is 100% real, how does an error like this occur? Wouldn't the same sheet with the print error be printed multiple times? Why is there only one?

I'm 99.9% sure this didn't come in a pack of M13. If this is indeed, legit, then it's just another form of Viral Marketing to drive hype in this lull before spoiler season.

First of all, I DO play standard. It's the only thing I can play where I live.

LBS, what part of New Jersey are you from? I'm from Central Jersey, and I know quite a few places that are trying to promote a Modern and Legacy scene but just aren't getting any one to turn out for events. It's getting to the point where they're spending more money on prize support and trying to promote it than they are getting players to play.

So, I don't think the problem is with the stores in NJ, but the population. I also know my LGS is in the works of trying to make plans for Legacy tournaments, but hasn't gone all in because of said lack of enthusiasm for non-standard formats.

Personally, Standard is my least favorite format, but I think it's relatively healthy right now. I'm not sure exactly what types of decks you enjoy, but I've seen a wide range of strategies work to some degree. A few weeks ago I went 3-1 with a mono red burn deck in a field of Delver, WRR, R/G Aggro, Delver, Humans, oh, and did I mention Delver?

If anything, I believe that the problem with competitive is not in the archetypes that are being promoted, but rather the mind set of many of the grinders. "Innovation" now a days is changing out 4 cards main board. I see fewer and fewer people trying to tweak a new brew and instead going with what ever has the best win percentage. Delver is the perfect example of this.

The deck is good, but it's not oppressive. Yet people will play it even if it had a 0.1% better win percentage than the next best deck. I wish I could blame this form of min-maxing on the gamification of our culture, and the desire to play what has the best win percentage, regardless of what the better choice is, but I have no hard evidence. It's because of this that I believe no matter what Wizards prints, we will always have a dominant deck with 3 - 4 other competitive decks in standard. Perhaps what saddens me most is that I'm seeing less ingenuity on the FNM level, and even the most dedicated brewers have resorted to tweaking a list.

The funny thing is, I did those exact things and it didn't work when I was having those problems before. I just went to go run kicker without changing any thing (Still have both .exe's set to admin) and now it's working.

Very weird since there hasn't been an update aside from the one I'm downloading now...

The best part about the Akroma's Memorial spoiler was it was an accident. If you noticed, they link you to the article that spoiled Door to Nothingness, and there is no Door to Nothingness on the Spoiler.

Yay for inadvertent chase rare spoils?

Worked like a charm! Thank you very much! Now I can actually play again!

Hopefully Wizards fixes this with the next patch.

In the old, old days you would get $10 credited to our account to spend on a starter deck or towards a draft or what ever have you. Now a days they give you a starter kit with a booster pack, 2 event tickets, and a whole bunch of common and uncommon essentials from the latest core set. If you were planning on playing, I would wait until M13 rolls out on MTGO, then start your account so you have the latest core set's staples to tide you over.

I'm running it on Windows 7 Home Premium.

Also, thanks for the tip Get in my belly, I'll try it right now and see if that does the trick.

EDIT: Nope, it didn't work. I reinstalled, and before launching I chose repair. The repair completed, got in, played a game, logged out and tried restarting it and I got the same error.

EDIT EDIT: I should also add that I had been playing MTGO fine for over a year without any problems. This just started happening after I downloaded the Avacyn Restored patch.

  • posted a message on Windows 64 bit Error with MTGO
So, shortly after Avacyn Restored came out I went to go play Magic Online. Downloaded the patch, played a few rounds and logged off. The next day I went to go start up MTGO again, and I received this error:

"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."

I did some searches online, read the sticky, didn't find any info. Saw a lot of the general advice to resolve problems was to reinstall, so after a while I finally got bored and reinstalled today. Downloaded the latest patches fine, got in, played two rounds and quit. I just went to play again and now I'm getting the same error.

It would be very annoying to have to reinstall every time I play, has any one encountered this problem or know of a fix? There's only one version of MTGO that I know of and this is my only PC right now.

  • posted a message on Primer Decks: Elves
So, I have a draft for an elf deck for the previous extended season (Lorwyn - M12) and wanted to get a second (or third) pair of eyes to look it over and give me their opinion. The premise is your basic Ezuri aggro deck, going for the kill in as few turns as possible.

  • posted a message on Best source to get Custom playmat on a budget
I've been wanting to get a play mat done as well, and contacted the artist of the piece I wanted to get a play mat of. Since the art in question is older and there are no high res pictures any where, I thought I would pay the artist for a high res digital print and the ability to make a play mat of it.

Unfortunately, the artist in question was out of town, so one of his representatives answered my inquiry by telling me that because Wizards owns the art I wouldn't be able to make a play mat for myself even if I paid the artist for a print. (Since I would need to pay licensing fees.)

Is this really the case or was I dealing with an uninformed representative? I'm kinda bummed because I really wanted a play mat of my favorite art and was willing to shell out money for it.

These are my thoughts as well.
Maybe the Hook's name, expansion symbol and even the preview picture could give way to much information and they are just delaying it on purpose. Something like "Slivers of Kamigawa" , showing Eldrazi floating over Lake Minamo, with expansion symbol being the face of Karn.

I'm willing to bet it's something like this.

Well... not exactly what you said, but the spirit behind it. Still, I find that speculative set to be quite hilarious.

The reserved list is not all Rares, just mostly rares. See Corpse Dance in Tempest.

Generally, if a common or Uncommon is on the list, it's because it uses a mechanic they were sure at the time would never see the light of day again (Such as Graveyard Order).

  • posted a message on Your local FNM experince:
    Attendance: 8 - 20
Structure: We rotate Standard > Draft > Sealed > Draft
    Price: Standard: $8, Draft: $16, Sealed: $24
Prize payout: Standard is 2 packs in the pool per person, limited is 1 pack in the pool per person. Prizes are awarded to the top half of the players rounded down. (I.E. If there are 9 players, top 4 get prizes, If there are 20 then top 10.) Also, the lower prize brackets try to at least return what you put into the pool, the rest is divided by what makes the most sense.

I love my FNM location. I've been playing there since Torment and we've all really grown into top notch players together. I might consistently place in 4th - 6th at this location, but on the rare days when I can't make it and have to go some where else I usually place first or second. Even then, I would rather place 4th - 6th every week with this crowd than go some where else and clean house just because I love hanging out with these guys so much.

I made an account just to post two things I noticed from the pictures.

    1) It almost looks as each of the angels on the playmats corresponds to a different color, Avacyn being Black, while the other three in order are blue, red, and green.

    2) If you look at the product number next to each of the playmats you will notice that it skips one number in between the second Avacyn playmat and the first of the angels. My guess is it's a playmat for one of the planeswalkers that will be present in the new set but they obviously do not want to spoil them yet.

EDIT: Never mind, the portfolio fills in the missing gap. I overlooked that in my original assessment.
