Just getting back into the game after a long break. The Landfall mechanic made me wonder about something that may be obvious but it's never come up for me before. Say you have Emeria Shepherd and a plains in hand on turn 8 with seven lands in play. You play Emeria, and then proceed to play the plains to activate her landfall. Does your opponent have time to respond with say a Murderous Cut before you have a chance to trigger the landfall, or do they not have the priority to respond before it triggers?
First and foremost credit to yakusoku and his budget guide. This is a build he listed in the under $20 with some changes. Looking to get back into the game after not playing since the end of Theros block. Was looking to get back in with a budget deck and then spend a little more if my group continues to play when SOI releases. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Haha, totally. All the Eldrazi I wanted to run cost 3 mana! It's a problem.
Anyway, I drew one match out of four today, so I guess I got lucky last time with 2-2. Advice I received was that there just isn't enough removal, so that if I get behind on the board there's just no way to recover. I think that's fair, so I'll need to pick up some Roasts. I've also added a single copy of Treasure Cruise, which I'm hoping will allow it to round out a bit better. I've also realised I can't think of a situation where I would want to sub in the Benthic Infiltrators in the sideboard, so I guess those slots are free for something better.
Was looking to get back into the game with a budget deck that's more BFZ than Khans. This seems to be what I'm looking for. My concern is there seems to be a LOT of 3 drops.
Is there anything from Theros block worth hanging onto, not named Thoughtseize of course, that might retain value come rotation. Or will cards like Hero's Downfall and Polukranos for sure tank come rotation?

I'm wondering how needed the Mystics are. The deck doesn't seem to need THAT much ramp. That would give room for some maggots/seizes. 4 coursers has always felt a bit redundant to me as well. His lack of Downfall in the side feels like a mistake. 3 Hornet queens also seems excessive. I'd think 2 at most.

Biggest change is the finisher. Sphinx with the hexproof seems resilient enough to protect with counters and exiles effects and has a decent clock.
Your list shows 4 Benthic Infiltrators in both the deck and sideboard.
Oh, I haven't played in a while and clearly don't understand how their new block system works
Won't those cards rotate out of standard when SOI releases?
Are they scrylands expected to hold any value after rotation? Most are only $5ish as is right now.
