Playing some 1v1 edh. My adun deck vs his mono red dragon deck.
T6: friend plays mindclaw shaman (my adun deck only runs 1 instant or sorcery... Primal surge) its in my hand. He flips over - 4 lands , chandra 1.0 , anger , mordant dragon , moonveil dragon , thundermaw. Chandra pings anger and he swings for lethal.
What was interesting to me is that on the Silly 6 drops thread one of the main arguments to take Kokusho off the banned list was that there were other more appealing tutor/reanimation targets, namely Primeval titan. To me swapping them places on the banned list could do the exact same thing in game. With primeval gone as the "best" target for everythingkokusho will gladly step back into its former role.
I dont really know if this will happen but it beggs the question...
Will kokusho take primevals place as Best target for Everything?
Man if I'll have to remember you guys if i ever have a spare weekend to head up to san antonio and check it out. I have a small playgroup in Victoria and we sometimes go to tournaments over there. Glad to see a dedicated commnder group starting up. Thats hard to find in all the places i've played around south TX.
Apparently this idea is more widespread than i thought. My build has about 15 non-creature permanents with primal surge as the only non-perm. I too left out rune scar purposfully too to keep the randomness. I also skimmed the deck to make sure i wouldnt auto lose to primal surge due to ETB draw effects.
Adun oakenshield 99 permanent deck. Primal surge is the only non permanent. 48 creatures makes adun a repeatable regrowth. The deck is designed to have all the things a normal deck has except in creature form for maximum flexibility of the commander. Wipes, spot removal, draw, recursion, all on creatures. Each non-creature spot has a powerful synergy with all the creatures I play. Birthing pod is crazy with it.
Its extremely fun and relatively cheap. Perfect for a paragraph on "restrictions breed creativity".I dont have a list up but i can figure it out if you like it enough.
Very late game in a 5 player free for all im playing riku vs reafiq, sigarda, kresh, ghave. I had guilded draked a rafiq players general to timestretch (not copied and non infinite) and kill off 3 out of 4 opponents (only one with rafiq commander damage). Pass my turn. Rafiq goes to wipe the board so in response i chaos warp his rafiq into his library. On my turn i bribery his rafiq give it haste and pump it with kessig wolf run for a single shot general kill with his own rafiq.
I like them...big, flasshy, swingly, full of flavor. I would use them in my decks of those colors if i had them. I need a godsire and prince for their respected colored decks. I use hellkite overlord in scion of the fun dragons deck.
I really love those lands for edh because it can take you from 0 of one colore to 2 of one color with one land. I always use them in my 3 color decks for this exact reason.
Example. Someone is playing sigarda and you have a wrath in hand but no white mana. If you draw a fetch, dual, shock, or anything else besides a filter your screwed. But a white filter will give you both white you need in one land allowing you to remove sigarda.
One of my favorites is sheoldred, whispering one and geth, lord of the vault. They form a mean control team cause if no one stops either one you dont have to play any more cards. Just keep reanimating your stuff or theirs... Or BOTH!!!
E. Wittness is a great first pick but in my meta it gives up too much information. What would happen to me is that the big creature would get removed and the second tooth and nail would get countered because my opponents are waiting for it next turn. I would be left with just the wittness. If i pick 2 big dudes ( when the blue player is tapped out cause we always assume the blue guy has a counter ) and one gets removed i still have the other ( geth most likely from my previous example ) to keep beating.
Others i pick sometimes is rune-scarred demon and mikaeus the unhallowed to set up a recursion engine with maybe nim deathmantle or draw power with greater good. I usually try to mix it up everytime i cast tooth and nail
I have a casual adun oakenshield deck that is a blast to play. It runs 98 permanents (1 primal surge) and 48 creatures so my general basically reads rgb, tap: put target card from your grveyard to your hand. Its packed with lots of tiny creatures for ramp and utility and draw. Fauna shaman works wonders in there
Play the ever so popular genisis wave. Then add some other random token makers and put in khamal beastmaster ascensioncraterhoof bahemoth and maybe another overrun effect to make your token army leathal in one swing
I had a fun deck that was 100 permanents ( including general ) so i will have to break my restriction of an all permanent deck just to live the dream of dropping 80+ cards onto the field off one spell... Best card advantage ever lol.
