Am I the only one bugged by the fact that a dinosaur based visually on a ceratopsid is flavored as a carnivore hunting its prey?
To me it looks like something out of the Nodosauridae gone terribly wrong. The thing doesn't even look like a dinosaur. It's got spikes. It's got horns. It's walking on four legs. But it's a carnivore? Super strange.
I was excited for this set because in unsets every card, even commons, have to do something out of the box. What is this? This is not acceptable.
Make it have "This card has every watermark." or "If you are wearing a costume, gain 3 life." or ANYTHING, really. I came up with this after a minute of pondering. Surely something that's been in design for 10 years or something could come up with something better than a god damn functional reprint.
It means playing three colors, but if you get this and Baron Von Count in draft, you could put a Doom counter on him at 1. It's also not bad with a Hangman with an almost guessed word.
This doesn't interact with Baron Von Count, because you put the counter on the permanent, but not on the "5" as specified by the Baron.
When The Grand Calcutron enters the battlefield, each player exiles his or her hand in a face-up pile.
Players can only play the top card of the pile he or she exiled.
If a card would be put into a player’s hand from anywhere, that player reveals it and puts it into the pile he or she exiled at any position.
At the beginning of each player’s end step, if there’s fewer than five cards in the pile that player exiled, he or she draws cards equal to the difference.
I feel the same way. Seems like 1/4 of the set are Contraptions, 1/4 cards that assemble Contraptions and another 1/4 cards about rolling die. None of those are particularly out there.
You've seen the rest of the unspoiled set? Do share!
"There are 45 Contraptions in Unstable, nine per faction." said by Mark Rosewater. There's 210 draftable cards in the set. That's roundabout 1/4th. If there's already 3 cards that care about rolling die but don't even roll dies, you can expect there to be a whole lot more die rolling cards. Without having seen the whole set, yes, I feel like large parts of this set are occupied by things that are not particularly out there.
For infinite ETB triggers.
Combine that with Adorable Kitten and you got yourself as much life as you want.

The difference is that discard doesn't work.
