Thx for the link, I couldn't even find the article on the forbes site, what a mess of articles. No clue why wizards want to give previews to those non magic related sites. None of the announced cards have visuals and the questions are all generic and the same on every site and therefore no longer interesting...

I like the new art on those, and the cards themself are spicy aswell, though not sure yet if its in a good way or not.

My guess is that it will have all mythics, rares and uncommons, and they will left out draft bulk

Doubtfull, seeing that one of their reasons for making this is limited. Drafting will very likely be the most used way to obtain the cards (outside of wildcards)

"Focus on creating an interesting, repeatable Limited player experience"

So commons with a strong tie to the mechanics will still be there, at least we wont see the useless bulk vanilla stuff

Well, It might have seen some play after the ban if you could do it at instand speed. But at sorcery speed it just killed the mechanic, though maybe that's not a bad thing.

Right now, purchasing the entire drop for $150 actually comes out positive on value for the purchaser, compared to non-premium versions of the cards - that's pretty insane. It doesn't even hold a candle to current premium copies. And this doesn't account for whether or not they decide to add any special gifts, like the stained glass planeswalkers. This drop is just bonkers. It's good enough that you could purchase the whole set and not feel bad, and probably even flip it, but not so crazy that everyone feels obligated to purchase it or miss out on a crazy deal. - I'm personally not a huge fan of the aesthetic, so I'll probably forgo this one, though I at least have a few days to consider it.

Yeah I agree that the pricing seems right, it can't be to cheap because that would hurt the secondary market and if it's to expensive people wouldn't buy it anyway. You say it might even be a bit more expensive and still be worth it but that would only be true if you live in america, anywhere else the tax is just gonna make it way to expensive, even now, I probably wont buy it because of that. How nice it would be if they made a selling point in Europe and Asia.

I'm having a problem with DHL on delivering the sheet, it appears that the item is stucked in customs at the airport near my house and they now are asking for the order placement and the payment verification that I purchased the sheet but it's a gift so I don't know what to do. Anyone in Europe with the same problem?

I got mine today and only the top corner is a bit damaged from trying to insert it into the tube so it's not really a problem. The tube they send it in is really sturdy.

I didn't have the same problem but I got no message or anything from DHL or WOTC in advance. I just found a note in my mailbox on friday that I missed the courier and they would try again after the weekend. There was a handwritten tracking number on it and after deciphering it and entering it in the website from DHL I found out it came from LA so I guessed it would be the sheet. Guess I am lucky that I am at home now and could accept it and not on a vacation like allot of people. It would have been returned by then to sender and I wouldn't have known it until it was to late.

To answer your question, you could try to mail them the note you got back in the day from ebay and say it was a gift, then hope they are a bit understanding.

Oh, and my friend that lives a few streets further hasn't received anything yet, so if you didn't get it yet I would not panic for now. Last time we both ordered something in the same week from the same place outside europe I got mine delivery 20 days earlier then him..

I must say that since the return of the core sets they have been spot on. Haven't been this interested in a core set since magic origins.
Good mix of interesting new cards and good reprints for eternal formats. Hope they keep this up Smile

I assume WotC needs to figure out how many sheets it needs to print. Gets the printer to print them, gets the sheets shipped to Seattle and then WotC will package each one up and ship it out to everyone. That process might take a few months.

You are probably right, but it would have been nice to get an update after not hearing anything from them for so long so we know what is going on, even if it was just "it will take another 3 months".

    Bleh,

I got the 'pay my order' button at 9:01, got redirected to paypal and pressed buy. It said payment successful at 9:04 but when I looked at 'my ebay' it said that it was still processing my payment and now there is nothing at all anymore. So guess I got the short end of the stick.
Pretty stupid if you ask me that they allow to buy 2 orders per account when there are this few and it is sold out that fast.
Next time they really should partner with someone in europe and sell the same number of copies on our continent, even though I was ready with 2 screens and willing to pay the ridiculous taxes I still didn't get a chance.

On a sidenote, it was 103$ in tax (according to my checkout in ebay) and 14$ for shipping to Belgium for those that want to know.

EDIT: After writing this and reading some other comments saying to try again I did so and i managed to pick up 1 for myself and 1 for my friend who also had nothing and went to do something different when they sold out the first time. So thanks for the info guys Smile

Still, I hope they separate the regions next time to make things a bit smoother.

    Bleh, double disappointment :/

I just got the email from ebay that my order is cancelled after all :/ And here I was counting myself lucky I got through during the second wave :/
    Timeline:
    1/5
9:04 - Got through the first time, payment listed as pending, no conformation mail yet.
9:22 - Pending payment just vanished from 'my ebay', no mail it confirming or declining payment.
9:35 - Writing my previous post and got word of 2nd wave
9:37 - Made my order and got conformation mail from paypal immediately, 2 minutes later 1 from ebay aswell.
    3/5
Got mail from Paypal my first order got refunded (only the box, not yet the taxes), 6 hours later the same for my second order. No conformation from ebay yet. I still have hope cause ebay hasn't informed me yet but it's not looking good.
    4/5
Got the dreaded 'We are sorry email with the coupon', only once so far but I guess this means my last hope that I still got something is gone with that

Stopped again at 35,784 units sold.

Are they just releasing them in 12,000 unit batches at a time to meet demand?

edit: 37, 531 units sold. "More than 78% sold."

Well my first order was "sold" but then canceled. I do not think my purchase is subtracted from the ticker. So if there are only 12,000 boxes, then 25,000 orders have been canceled (if not more, lol).

I agree, but it does show how crazy the demand is lol. It must be some algorithm canceling all the orders that where put at the same time (and can't process) and then slowly putting the ones that didn't go through back up so the same problem doesn't show up again.

just wanted to check out the hasbro store, but it shows me constantly 0 results, no matter what, cant purchase anything there

I had the same thing. It seems it happens if you open it by going to the store and clicking stuff though the drop down menu first. If you just go back to the main page, scroll down a bit and use the buttons with quick links they made, it does work. The drop down menu works after you've done that aswell. Seems like a bug to me.

First of all, thanks for taking your time voicing your opinion and breaking it down in steps, it's always good to hear things from a different angle.

Between FNM and playtesting I've probably played more than 600 games with my Doran deck, and I would say the number of times a shuffle effect screwed me is less than 10. I have personally screwed myself with the sequencing much more than that, like fetching a land to the top and then playing a BBE.

What about Surgical are you worried about? A surgical on a fetchland in response to you putting a Doran on top with Harbinger? If so, you are worried about that precisely because you have such a hard time getting to Doran in the first place.

The reason I brought up Harbinger is you said yourself you had a game with only two lands, and you have two games where you got 6 in a row, all in the same night. This is where Harbinger helps immensely. It also allows you to run Murmuring Bosk, which alongside Harbingers comes into play untapped a lot more often than Blooming Marsh does.

Well, I was mostly concerned about doran getting surgicalled. I did consider running Eldritch Evolution as 1-2off to tutor when needed. It makes siege rhino much better aswell.

    Quote from Liquidbeaver »
I say drop the Siege Rhino (this casting cost is brutal with your landbase), the two Nyx-fleece, and a Spellskite to get the playset of Harbinger in. As for the Harbinger not doing enough if Doran is gone, this just gets back around to why you need Harbinger in the first place, so they can't keep you off of Doran or Doran like effects. If you still don't want Harbinger, at least get some Courser of Kruphix in there to smooth out your land drops.

I tried a removal heavy deck at one point, but after a while I realized that I was giving up a lot of pressure just to trade 1-for-1 with interaction. I don't think the Paths are out of place, but 3 Abrupt Decays is a lot. I would think 2-3 Paths, 1-2 Assassin's Trophy, and the single Maelstrom Pulse would hit a lot more things you would be worried about Game 1.

Somehow Courser of Kruphix never came to mind, but he might be worth testing, I wanted to have some 2 drops in addition to spellskite to do something early and threaten some dmg with a followup doran/Formation which is why I preferred the ram over other 3 drops.
I agree that Abrupt Decay is not as good sometimes but it does actually kill almost everything i'm afraid of in game 1. The worst part is that it is a potentially dead card against combo decks. The good thing is that it doesn't ramp my opponent as a trade off, I don't want to give my opponent to many lands since I already use path.
I liked the Rhino but he does slow the deck down allot so i cut down to only one, the reason why I still left one was to have a creature with pseudo-evasion should it ever be needed, as well as a potential source of direct dmg vs death shadow. He would probably be the first thing to cut though.

    Quote from Liquidbeaver »
The mainboard Rest in Peace's would be a lot better suited as Relic of Progenitus. What do you do in Game 1's where they don't care about the GY? Just not cast it? Then it's a dead card taking up two slots. At least with Relic it is easier to cast in general, and turns into draw if you don't need it.

True, this was a calculated risk, I expected a very heavy graveyard meta and hoped to gain some free wins with this game 1. As I said, it did not pay off, I never drew them when I needed them and I did when i did not need it more often the not. I choose for rest in peace because that card can win game 1 against a graveyard deck, while relic usually only slows it down and has way less impact unless there is some artifact synergy. The next time at a big tournament I think I will just run it in the sideboard.

    Quote from Liquidbeaver »
You're using Smiter as a bandaid. Its second ability only really works with Lili who is not run anywhere close to the degree she was when Jund was king. Inquisition and Thoughtseize don't factor in because an opponent would never choose to pitch the Smiter and just have it come into play instead. But let's say you do get it down, a 4/4 with summoning sickness isn't all that scary anymore. If it had flying or reach naturally it would be a different story, but the number of flyers that are currently played is huge compared to what it used to be. You only have 7 creatures total, including 2 Hierarchs that can attack at all without Doran or Formation. If you want the deck to not rely on him at much, you have to drastically increase that number, even if it only means through 1/X's or 2/X's. A playset of Courser's for starters.

Doran decks can't really win wars of attrition against other decks, as they get worse as time goes on, not better. The thing that makes them good is value, you're making a 5/5 for 3 that makes other value creatures 3/3's or 4/4's right after, creature that cost you almost nothing to put out, so that a single combat step threatens to kill them, whether Doran is attacking or not. Without a high creature density, your boardstate becomes just a creature or two by turn 5 or 6, and because of things like Dredge/Phoenix/Tron, most decks are running just as much removal as you are, but not at the detriment to your own deck.

I still ran Tower defense so I could always threaten a kill with even only 1 creature but the card was indeed underwhelming, mostly because my creatures are easily chump blocked and indeed, there are not enough of them to make sure a few will go unblocked. I normally ran lingering souls to solve this problem but I moved the card to the sideboard in favor of rest in peace while still keeping Tower defense in the maindeck which might have been a mistake. I probably should have paired them up either in the board or the maindeck.

    Quote from Liquidbeaver »
Your deck is doing a lot of things a little bit. For instance you have 4 pieces of ramp, 4 pieces of hand disruption, and 7 pieces of removal. That level of redundancy means you are likely to have some games with no ramp, no hand disruption, and less rarely, games without removal. You have 3 Tower Defense, but at 19 creatures you are most likely using that on defense, since you can't guarantee Doran or Assault Formation will be out.

I don't think everyone should run a Doran deck like I do, adding red for Bolt and BBE, but my deck really punishes others that can't keep pace with the number of creatures I put out. I have a Doran on T2 often, a Doran by T3 more than 75% of the time, and if I lose that one I have the means to get that effect out again within a turn or two. The only time I've ever been kept off of every Doran and Formation was against Lantern Control. I am only able to get anywhere near that consistency because of Harbinger being at worst a big chump blocker, is also essentially a modal tutor/fetch, all for just G.

While what you say is true, I usually look more at the curve then at the specific effect of what I can do on turn one. Both are usually great since if you have the discard you know what your up against and can disrupt it, while when you have the ramp it speeds you up to you first creature while the opponent still has to fear the discard when he keeps his opening hand. There is almost always a 2 mana and 3 mana card in hand to use as a follow up and curve out.

You guys might be right, but I didn't want to risk it with all the surgicals going around these days. I never had color issues so i feel the mana base is pretty good, though I would love to have verdant catacombs which i cut due budget constraints. I felt the Harbinger wouldn't do enough once doran is gone and it sucks if a shuffle effect shuffles the one on top away.
I tried to fill the gap that opens up while waiting for a doran with the smiter and removal. It makes us less reliant on doran while still having highly efficient creatures. I feel like that worked pretty well though I did have one game I had 10 toughness on the board doing nothing for the whole game, but that happened only once I think. Usually there is only 1 defender and a smiter, while I do other stuff until I find a doran/Formation.

    Quote from peteroupc »
The effect of Frost Titan's second ability providing that the targeted permanent "doesn't untap during its controller's next untap step" is a continuous effect that modifies the rules of the game — it was "generated by the resolution of a spell or ability" and doesn't change the characteristics or control of any objects (C.R. 611.2c). Moreover, the effect "uses the current information of" the affected permanent, such as who controls that permanent, at the time it needs it, namely, as an untap step begins (C.R.608.2g). As a result, the effect doesn't "lock in" whose untap step it affects. See also this thread. Also, compare Frost Titan with Mogg Hollows, whose second ability refers to "your next untap step" (C.R. 108.1), that is, the next untap step of the player who activated that ability (C.R. 109.5), not necessarily to whoever controls Mogg Hollows as an untap step begins.

Thank you for the thorough explanation! We assumed it would work like this but it is nice to have the specific ruling which causes it to be so. It will make it easier next time to understand or explain if something similar happens.
