Jun 19, 2018Heskatet posted a message on Cards that should be reprinted to enter the Modern card poolStill hoping for Opposition here.Posted in: Modern
Jun 19, 2018I just saw the new spoilers and there is Magistrate's Scepter. This could be a tool which takes the deck further. You can do nice things with power conduit and having extra turns every 2 or 3 turns may be a nice thing.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Jun 16, 2018Thanks for the suggestions. I thought of geralfs messenger and I think he may be worth the spot instead of Soulgorger, because he didn't function as I wanted.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Dark prophecy isn't a card I want in the deck, because I can't abuse it at its most. I would rather play grim haruspex because he provides a body and can make pressure.
Jun 14, 2018Hi after I have finally put the deck together on mtgo and having played only 3 games where I won 2 and lost one game I got some insights. I think I need some more draw spells, because the deck runs out of gas quite fast after a board wipe. But I never drew Etchings in the 3 games...maybe i go up to 4.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Maybe i get some more conclusions when i play more games.
Jun 13, 2018Well adding solemnity to the deck means that both Phyrexian Etchings and Descent into Madness don't work. It would change the playstyle of the deck that much that I could just play a whole other deck. A splash for white is absolutely an option but with solemnity it would be too heavy.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
I agree on path and probably the best Sideboard cards available at the moment with white. But first I want to build the deck in monoblack and see how it plays out. After gaining some info, I will start splashing colors and so on. Also, the removal of counters via hex parasite and power conduit still have profit which you wouldnt have with solemnity
Jun 13, 2018Even if you don't have revolted Push you still hit most of the creatures which are majorly played like delver goyf pyromancer snapcaster confidant... But that needs to be tested.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Yeah descent may in most cases be the opposite, but it needs to be kept in check quite fast so I think it still needs counter manipulation and so "belongs" to the deck strategy.
Jun 12, 2018Hey there, thanks for the reply and your thoughts.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Well descent into madness and etchings do a great job together. As long as you can afford it manawise, you draw cards with etchings which you can exile with descent. If etchings isn't affordable anymore, you can exile it with descent and also don't lose life. Hex parasite keeps descent in check and you can still keep it on the Battlefield.
The Idea with death's shadow seems interesting and I think it could be explored deeper. Maybe in place of Phyrexian Soulgorger. Fetchlands with push is great for sure, but not in my budget atm :-(
I will build the deck on mtgo and see how it plays out
Jun 12, 2018I came up with this idea today while I was browsing around in the forums on my search for new decks and ideas for decks and wanted to share my thoughts with you and get some critics, other Ideas and feedback what could be improved.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
First of all, I never played this "deck" or have any information about matchups or anything. I just want you to look at my idea an tell me what you think of it.
So here it is:
As you can see the deck tries to do some nice stuff with counter shenanigans on different cards to control the board and win the game.
There are a lot more cards with counters that can be abused in some ways. But I don't know other good counter manipulation cards except of proliferate or Clockspinning. Proliferate is almost no option, because I mostly need to remove counters from my cards. I wanted to play it on mtgo because I sold all my paper cards and keep it kind of budget so splashing another color has to have a very good reason to improve the deck.
Cards to also consider:
I think there are some more which I don't think of atm.
So mostly I need to remove counters from the cards I have in play, but there are some things you can do with your opponents cards like planeswalkers or something with +1/+1 counters on it.
Hex parasite is a very good option for that.
Ok that's it for now so maybe there are some people with good advice and interest in this deck. Hope to hear something from you.
Edit: A question came to my mind: can I respond to the cumulative upkeep trigger between the actions of putting an age counter on the permanent and paying the upkeep? Meaning, could I place an age counter on Phyrexian Soulgorger and remove it before I have to pay for it?
May 30, 2018Don't take that as criticism, I was just curious because most of the people here take the paradox engine combo as the way to go.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
I also think it is good but I was always looking for backup plans and I think Tezzeret, Agent of bolas and Karn Scion of Urza are very good possibilities.
Wurmcoil engine is always an option, and thopter sword seems to work also.
I think there are different ways to play the deck color- and winconwise
the thing is, it needs to suit your playstyle.
May 23, 2018Cool, nice finish!Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Well I thought Karn would be a very good option for the deck. interesting, that you didn't include the combo. The advantage is, that stony Silence doesn't hurt as much if you still have Wurmcoil Engine and just turn it sideways and produce tokens with thopter-sword combo.
May 18, 2018I think the idea behind the deck is interesting but like you said, there is a lack of tools to keep it running. I searched for ways to make caress and waste not work when the opponent has few or no cards in hand, and I found:Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Warped Devotion !
And this is nuts. If you add U to the deck you have so many ways to control the board and get rid of problem cards. If the opponent has no cards in hand and you bounce something he has to discard the bounced card.
And you have many tools to mak that work.
- Echoing truth
- Eye of Nowhere
- Cyclonic rift
- Vapor snag
- Void snare
- Cephalid constable
- Temporal adept
- Venser's Diffusion
- Wipe away
- Aether tradewinds
- Blizzard spectre
- Clutch of the undercity
- Cryptic command
- Dissipation Field
- Jace the mindsculptor
Just to name some of them.
I know the deck will play really different, because it will be more of a control than a combo deck, but I think it can work.
You could run isochron sceptre with Boomerang so you can also bounce lands if yo want. And you can chose what they have to discard and make better use of waste not.
Along with that you can play normal discard like thoughtseize, inquisition of kozilek, duress and so on.
Another question is, remand. I think it doesn't trigger warped devotion even if you counter a permanent spell right? This would be very nice. But I think it doesn't work that way.
Maybe I will give it a try if I have time to test it.

May 15, 2018I think Collective Defiance and Reforge the soul could do a lot in this deck.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Collective defiance is very flexible and in combo with caress it can deal a lot of damage. Reforge the soul can be a finisher and ensures that your opponents hand is full which is good when you have caress out.
