I assume it belongs to either the Izzet or the Simic guild, more importantly why is it so bad? Yes its 2 mana for a 2/3 that gives card draw except you need to tape a 2 power creature to activate it! Smuggler's Copter was much better and in my eyes this is worse than Jhessian Thief as it doesn't have prowess. Actually this Submarine doesn't have any evasion which defeats the whole purpose of a sub. If it had islandwalk, skulk or even prowess I would have been fine with it. Instead it is a god awful rare. Also crew 2 for a 2/3 vehicle is over costed should have been crew 1.
No kidding? It's worse than the card that was so ubiquitous it had to be banned in Standard? Gee, I wonder why.
The eternal skylord is much more my cup of tea - less vulnerable to removal, costs less, more stats, potential immediate impact...all around much more reliable.
Eternal Skylord is a good card, but it also matches up really badly against Sunblade Angel. Just sayin'.
I guess we'll find out who was right in a few weeks.
If you're able to profitably block with your angel, the lifelink is nice but it's not nearly as important as the card is already playing offense and defense for you.
I think you're vastly underestimating how powerful the keyword soup is. The combination of Flying, Vigilance and Lifelink makes her nearly unstoppable in most reasonable situations. Like, imagine the kind of board presence you need to be profitably attacking into one of these. Like, multiple 4/4s? Anything with 3 toughness or less is not only a blank but actively bad to attack with because she can gain life on both offense and defense. And God forbid you manage to put a counter on her and start proliferating. Courage in Crisis just makes her a better Lyra Dawnbringer.
I mean...is it better than serra angel? First strike is pretty meaningless on a mid-sized flyer, and +1/+1 is comparable to lifelink on a flyer of this size...If they were the same cost I'd rather have this, but for a full mana more? Pretty sure Serra angel is significantly better.
Not that this is terrible but it's no bomb, imo. Especially not with how efficient the removal is around here.
I disagree. Lifelink + Vigilance is significantly better than Vigilance and +1/+1. You can race a Serra Angel. You can't race this. Unless there is environmental pressure that hasn't been spoiled yet as to why this card isn't as good as it seems (like a bunch of 4 toughness fliers/reachers or something) I think Sunblade Angel is going to end up being a defining card of the Limited format.
I guess confirmation is nice but did anyone seriously expect them to just never use static abilities again? Besides, Garruk Relentless already had a static ability like 5 years ago.
Disagree. It's a well-used and rock-solid trope to have a character who no longer goes by their name, but is instead known only by a nickname, title, or another moniker. This is a very well-established and VERY old literary technique. Not simply literary, either, but in real life for people whose names are not known, although their actions are. See Jack the Ripper. They become or start off as urban legends.
Moreover, it makes perfect sense for a thrill-kill assassin in the guild of over-the-top-performers to have just such a memorable stage name, who is not known by anything else. Her name and history are intentionally a mystery. There's a bounty on her head. She keeps getting away with murder, mass murder, literally. No one knows her by anything but Massacre Girl, just like Jack the Ripper, etc. Why would anyone know her name, including we the audience? That would break the mystique.
Massacre Girl is essentially a Ravnican urban legend that we the audience get to see is real, but still don't get to know her name and history. Only her deeds. Which includes massacres with no witnesses left alive, it seems.
I'm aware. What I'm saying is that it goes against the established naming convention for legendary characters, and is extremely distracting as a result. And frankly, I don't think a minor side character we're likely to never see again is worth it.
EDIT: I think the source is Strictly Better MTG.
Seriously, Lana.
EDIT: I guess the English version could be called that. Seems unlikely, though.
I see what you did there, WotC.
I guess we'll find out who was right in a few weeks.
