Oct 18, 2013On my phone so wont be using tags sorry. List is essentially Brad Nelsons pro tour list with one less Flesh\Blood and Mortars for 2 Zhur Ta Druid and a dropped Domri for a Garruk COB. Maybe a couple other differences I cant quite remember.Posted in: Colossal Gruul
Just wanted to say i 4-0'd my fnm tonight with almost no effort. Bant turbofog, rietzel/chapin bw list, mono blue and uw control. Lost one game all night to the perfect curve of mono blue. T3'd dragon multiple times and it is amazing... Obviously. Ghor Clan Rampager plus Blood is actually absurd. Definitely not just a cute combo. 16'ing people from nowhere is no joke. Skarrg Guildmage is a house vs UW and esper. It's a one man army with trample against Elspeth. Polukranos was amazing on his own, monstrosity hardly relevant.. Took out a couple of Cloudfin Raptors at its best.

This decks one bad match up is Junk Doran after extensive testing. The mana-base is a lot steadier than it looks to the point where I can even include mutavaults. This deck can and will kill almost every other deck in the format before it can set up. Against other aggro decks it can out burn and out explode with a mix of Grenades, Chieftains and Bushwhackers. Test it guys trust me, it's the real deal.
Edit: I feel I should explain a little more rather than indulge in unnescessary douchery. Frankly, Tarmogoyf and Doran were becoming roadblocks I just could not deal with. The addition of Path to Exile (though minimal in amount) is having a HUGE effect here. Boros Charm fits nicely in with the white as protection from Wrath if you're dominating the board; or big burn if you gotta race. Act of Treason steals fatties. Mostly Wurmcoil Engine tbh, it ends the game when it does. Earwig Squad has been testing very well against combo (Tron, Pod, Twin). Rakdos Charm is just utility city and works in a variety of ways. The rest I feel is self-explanatory. Test it homies, let me know how you do.
Currently potential changes are just going balls to the wall on 4 Path to Exiles, though I like the 1 of Dismember... I'd also like to test/take advice on Spike Jester

No against the mono red list. It's even discussed between the two of them. Scotty says 'Aren't we just dead to a Spear here?' and Reid replies 'Yeah but that's fine.'
I just thought it was odd.
Jun 4, 2013Does anyone else think Reid's choice to not -3 Garruk sooner to hopefully draw some life gain is a huge mistake? He knows that he's stone dead to a spear off the top so decides to push for the win. If he'd have -3'd Garruk to no avail he could've just pushed for the win anyway.Posted in: Standard Archives

Round 1: RbDW 2-0. Outraced him both games, 3 damage burn spells just can't outpace the massive damage provided by our lords.
Round 2: Affinity 2-0. Again just plain outraced him. Even a 6/6 Vault Skirt couldn't stop Chieftain followed by kicked Bushwhacker.
Round 3: RG Tron 2-1. Turn three'd him G1. Bricked on lands G2 and lost to a T3 Karn. G3 turn four'd him, sideboarded Act of Treason did work. Get wrecked!
Round 4 Junk Doran 0-2. How the hell do we beat this guys? T2 Tarmogoyf into T3 Doran is unbeatable for us in my eyes. T1 Noble Hierarch into T2 Doran hurts more.

This has had a good effect on the explosiveness and consistency of the deck. I disagree with Caleb's evaluation on Lightning Bolt and Goblin Grenade though. The reach provided by these cards (especially the latter) is close to incomparable. Removal is needed for this deck, but Legion Loyalist definitely mitigates that. I like his use of Shared Animosity as a finisher, but I personally much prefer the Goblin Grenade kill.

Your other two black cards are more interesting but I dunno if they're worth taking a bunch of extra damage for. Rakdos Charm is nice for versatility but you already have 4 artifact kill spells and 2 graveyard hate. Randomly beating Twin with it is nice though and it also seems reasonable against Eggs. Earwig Squad is not a card I've ever considered. It's interesting in theory. It should just beat Eggs on the spot while potentially beating Storm and Scapeshift. I honestly have no idea if it's good but I think it's a cool idea to test out.
White is the splash that seems most effective to me. That said, I think you have the wrong two mana Boros spell. I think Boros Charm is what this deck wants more than Lightning Helix. The lifegain on Helix isn't all that relevant since most other aggro decks are good to even matchups from my experience. What's more threatening are slower decks with sweepers or combo decks that you just want to kill as quickly as possible and in those situations Charm is more useful. But Path to Exile is great to have access to.
Mutavault is a card that I haven't gotten to testing yet that seemed to me to be unplayable since Mogg War Marshal is pretty much the only thing you can do on turn 2 if it's your second land. It seems particularly ambitious here but maybe it can work.
As I've stated a few times, I think that you need 20 one-drops. Why no Legion Loyalist? I can see not wanting the full four, but I think he's impactful enough.
Krenko is not a card I have liked at all. Very win more, dies a lot, very expensive.
My last critique would be that I don't care for Grafdigger's Cage since it's not nearly as high impact of a graveyard hoser as other cards. It's reasonable against Pod but I don't know if that alone makes it good enough.
Advice appreciated. I really like your ideas on Boros Charm compared to Helix. However, Helix has the massive upside of hitting creatures. In a Sligh build (that Goblins is) it needs removal. I also must admit I agree with the Cage evaluation. It is really against Pod but I think their could be better hate.
Mar 25, 2013Honestly the mana is not that bad at all. Almost every land gives me a T1 red source and the fetches sort out the rest. More fetches equals more consistency, I just don't have the money. Ideally I'd run 6 fetches. Having white adds so much versatility to sideboarding it's unreal. From Thalia, Guardian of Thrabento Disenchant, white really does let you answer it all when combined with red and black. Not to mention having the best removal in the format.Posted in: Aggro & Tempo

Now, hear me out haha. I know the 3rd splash looks "mana-disasterous". But it really really isn't, testing even aloud 2 non-red mana sources for T1 in the form of Mutavault. Mutavault can be a house depending on how long the game goes and has been very good for me. Lightning Helix serves the same sort of role as I found myself losing after my opponent stabilized at incredible low life and I just couldn't burn them out. It also provides life and removal againt opposing aggro. I also love the Path to Exile in the board, mainly because Tarmogoyf is too much of a wall. I urge you guys to test this out. Only change I'd personally make so far is -2 Mountain +2 Scalding Tarn. Also Koth of the Hammervs Krenko, Mob Boss is a meta call depending on amount of wraths/removal you expect to face. Critique is welcome for sure
