Call your credit card company/bank and explain the situation. They may require you to file a police report (which my suggestion is to do it), and then they will fraud out the transaction (most will)

  • posted a message on Eldrazi Controversy Thread
I just want to point out some very funny things that make me laugh. I ghost the forums, reading quiet a bit. With BoZ everyone was so underwhelmed on the power curve. Many people were saying the set was so under powered, we want fun cards back, we want power back. So they gave us OGW, they gave us power, they gave us fun cards back. They did *exactly* what a lot of the community power based wanted. Now many of you are complaining that they broke the format, they were reckless in printing what they did with Eye/Temple in Modern. So WoTC gave players what they wanted, and now those same players complain its to powerful, and ban card 'x' or 'y'.

I completely agree Eldrazi in its current state is broken. But deal with it, not in the terms of 'let me make a deck that can compete with it'. I mean deal with it like put on your big boy britches, and realize this is what *MANY* players asked for, and WoTC listened. Now its broke, and I am sure WoTC is laughing, and will use this as a reason to scale back power on future sets with the reasoning of 'Last time we listened to the community, ya broke it'. So deal with it. Eye/Temple, 1 or both will eventually get banned which is sad. Until then, either A) cry and quit because you cant handle the current game you asked for. or B) Suffer, play, continue to learn, and focus on your game play.

You asked for the problems that are current in Modern, Deal with them

  • posted a message on Possible way to catch cheating, is this legal?
First off, my apologies if this is not in the right forum, I was not real sure where to post it. If wrong, will a mod please move to correct forum.

So, we have a person who we suspect fairly regularly cheats, but we've been unable to catch him. He keeps getting perfect amounts of land in his hand (generally 3), never seems to mulligan. We know he generally runs a 20 mana base. A few of us have seen him, after his matches, split out his land from the rest of his deck, and mana weave it 3 piles, stack land-non-non. We've questioned his shuffling skills before, but he has a pretty good slight of hand. Anyhow. Here is the legal question I have.

I think I remember reading a while back, that pile shuffling an opponents deck is now legal, on the basis of, if their deck is randomized in an appropriate manner, then it still remains randomized after. Now, if we are suspecting him of deck stacking, can I de-weave his deck, 3 piles, then stack them. This would give a block of his deck as strictly land. Before he draws, call a judge over and have the judge inspect the deck? The main reason I ask this is : If we suspect this going on, then we are knowingly DE-randomizing his deck, which I would imagine might fall in a grey area of the rules, however it catches him red handed (because seriously, what are the chances a block of 20 cards in a row are all land, I could figure it out statistically, but honestly, its not *that* important to me*). So the main question becomes, if it is proven he has been deck stacking (or weaving), can we as a player be punished, for doing the aforementioned because we took a deck that we "knew" wasnt random, and forced it to still not be random after cutting.

The reason we hesitate calling a judge pre-cut is given the situation, he can argue that 'Thats just how the cards fell' (which I think is total BS). But doing it after cut forces the situation to be present of his cheating. He has been caught a few times after someones legit shuffled his deck, he will 'accidentally' do something to his deck which forces him to reshuffle and re-present his deck (this happens normally at FNM where most people just take the deck in 1/2 and simple cut, which still leaves him pretty well woven).

In short. We are trying to force a situation where he is caught red handed, no excuses, no doubt, no questions. Just plain 'He cheats, and here is the proof'.

Hey just had a quick question wanted to get answered.

We did our Pre-Release event last night at the LGS. Ran into a situation, wasnt big or anything, just wanted to get some extra clarification.

Opponent(s), attacked with 2 Flyers (a 3/3 and a 3/2, both blue, cant remember their names, but just generic creatures). On my board specifically (my partner didnt have much out), I had the ally with Cohort that says 'Tap an ally, tap target creature'.

Their Team lead says 'Move to Combat' and immediately taps the 2 blue flyers. I respond with 'Use <Cohort Creature> tapping this ally, to tap down the 3/3 flyer". He responds 'Ok its still Attacking'. I quickly reply 'No, hes tapped, and this is why. You declared Move to combat, without passing priority to our team, and immediately tapped your two creatures attacking. I still have the option, since you skipped passing priority to us, to tap one down'. He agreed (no issue there, we both know the rules, and even said 'Yep your right, my mistake'. So I tap down his creature. Now heres where I need some clarification (It wouldnt have changed the game outcome, their synergy and board presence was simply greater than ours).

In situations like that, I know standard rule 'Call the judge', Frankly we dont use the judge, because we dont have one (except the default Shop Owner). Most of us know the rules better than he does. But which of these happen:

    1) The creature is considered tapped, unable to attack, and they must stick with their declared attackers. OR
    2) The entire phase is rewound to before declaring who is attacking, allowing them to change what creatures they are attacking with

Reason I ask is, if they had chained (and I know the card isnt in the set, just example), 'Move to Combat', instantly tap their creatures (who are attacking), then cast Giant growth on really either creature. During this they never pass priority, and I remind them I can still do 'x', if the situation is rewound do they get the Giant Growth back?

Honestly, no problem with either of the 2 modern bans, or the CoF ban. I find it funny all the 'Wizards sucks, They dont know what their doing, their giving us BS reasons'...and yet no one actually knows what Wizards is talking about behind closed doors. They may have idea for future set released, that will be a near (weaker) replacement for what they've banned. They may want the type removed completely. Its Magic, theres new cards printed all the time. I will buy their reasoning for twin though. Wizards doesnt necessary look at FNM deck play as their reason for ban/unban of cards, they look at pro players. People who actually *invest* their time and money... Yes yes some will have their feathers ruffled for that, but really most people on these forums are *not* pro players (atleast entering/participating/making it to top 32). When you have a single card that is present in 10% of the top finishes of a deck type, multiple wins, etc, then maybe its time to ban the card. Remember Twin saw play in a few different style decks, and produced near same results. If a card has that kind of power, then yes it is a little stronger than it should be for the format at the current time. Also who cares if it came out in MM15. Big whoop. Ok go cry more. They design sets months and months before its release, then have to evaluate what the additional influx of cards have done to the meta, and make adjustments. Be happy you got the reprint in the first place. Most people just want to play Magic without *anything* banned, but then would turn around and complain that theres only a 2 or 3 decks that are played and if you dont have 'x' or 'y' card then dont bother.

Id love to see them ban more cards. Ban Karn, Ban Sword of Fire and Ice, Ban Aether Vial, Keep the coming (Yes I am being fictitious with some of those), but I am so tired of seeing the same 4 style decks ran at most LGS's. Wizards doesnt really care about price market. Yes they will *try* and print cards to keep some prices down, but their not the ones who set a price on the cards, we as a community (and the stores who sell them) pretty much do. Id love to see about 4-5 more cards banned *before* they do an unbanning, to see what would come back.

Yes, you can still play it. There is no time restriction on the slivercycling. It acts as a normal ability, being able to be played in either the first or second main phase. So you could slivercycle a sliver from your hand, search for your manaweft, play it, declare combat, and move on to other steps. But either way, cycling the sliver from your hand doesnt end the turn, nor does it force the turn to end.

No, Legendary Rule. Alhammarret's Archive is a Legendary Artifact, so you can only have 1 out at a time

Edit ; Yes what you are asking would happen *IF* you were able to have 2 out (I know theres a card that lets you have more than 1 legendary out of the same name at a time, I just cant think of it), If you had that + 2 AA's then yes 400

Heres an idea, why not invest some of your money and build some of these cheap competitive decks that are 30-65 a piece, and let them play those types of decks, just 'loan them out' for the night, and you play one as well, when they see that everyone is doing pretty well, thats when you tell them, hey the deck is only 'x' much, thats not bad for a competitive deck. The idea is you let them play a powerful(ish) deck, then they hopefully get caught when they realize its less than $75 or so, and be open to sell those decks off right then to them. If it upgrades their experience, your not out anything, and it might help them start taking it all a little more fun but serious

Really like the concept and idea behind it. I tried it out over on tappedout, and honestly, the one thing I feel with this is, its almost too land heavy. I count 26 lands, and I know the purpose behind it being a landfall deck. However you could cut that down to probably 22 or 23 and pick up 3-4 slots for something, maybe noble heirarchs (it would fit the theme very well, and and gives a 2nd mana ramp + it will waste their removal, while still having another form if mana pro.)

As Matsu44 suggested. Wurmcoil > Sphinx in this set up honestly. If your angel is dying to lighentbolt, then the mentor might be a better way to go. Its a fun deck though from the small playtest I did

Good day all you forum people. Back with another question.

So stumbling across a timing question.

    Jace, Vryn's Prodigy
    Temporal Mastery
    Twin Cast

Player A controls a Jace that is ready to use his ability.
It is player B's turn. Player B Ends turn. Player A replies 'At EoT, ill activate Jace'. Draws a card. Temporal Mastery. Does Jace's ability finish resolving (The Discard a card, part), before the Miracle Ability goes on the stack? Also. When dealing with Twin Cast. Do you need to declare the cast during the miracle portion or the actual T.M portion prior to beginning resolution.

Also if you Devastation Tide a Flipped Jace, what happens?

I actually do something similar to what you are wanting and have not run into any problems, you just need to set up your notes really well. One of the first things you need to do is familiarize yourself with what is out there. Ill give you an example of how one of my last games went (I have my pad split into 2 sections, mine and theirs, down the middle)
    Me Opp
    1-M-L(G)/T->BoP XCB X2M | 1-M-L(D/WU)/T->SeVi XCB X2M
    2-M-L(R)/T(3)->SoFI

    etc etc

M - Main Phase, L - Land (color) /T tap, BoP Bird of Parasdise, Sevi Serum Vision (basically easy abbrs to follow, the more you get use to them, the quicker it becomes). XCB - No Combat, X2m - nothing on 2nd main. If you get in the habit of doing this, you can actually write a complicated round (few spells in main, few combat tricks, few things in 2nd), in less then 10 seconds.

  • posted a message on Becoming a Judge Question
I have a quick question about becoming a L1 Judge. I read the sticky on the Forum Page, however it does not address the question I have. One of the things is to find a L2 judge to 'study under' basically. What do you do if you have no L2 judges in your local area (or within 45 miles)that are not active.. The area I am in does not have *any* judges, and a few of us have been interested, but know that you need a L2 judge. I've tried doing the DCI- Find a local judge, however I cant remember my DCI Info (Yes ive contacted WoTC customer support, they never got back to me, I sent them all the required info, (name, email, address, tourny played etc).

    Any suggestions?
