With how many rares exist in any set compared to mythics, 1 of 6 rares being mythic, and there being about 4x more rares than mythics means that the chance of getting (for comparison purposes) Snapcaster Mage is almost equal to the chances of getting Liliana of the Veil. Whether Scavenging Ooze is mythic or Rare shouldn't much affect its rarity and thus its price.
I agree. I've been mostly looking at 2hg for as far as this is concerned (to which I think Dimir is clearly the best), but Boros seems the deepest. I will say that I think Simic has some pretty great commons, but its rares are severely lacking- will be better in draft.
This is a really hard pack to pick from... The Orzhov is very deep in this pack. I was stuck between Syndic of Tithes, Kingpin's Pet, Frilled Oculus, Deathcult Rogue, and Simic Fluxmage. I went with Syndic of Tithes because he's solid, lowdrop extort (which is what extort wants), doesn't push you into 2 colors, and the chances of wheeling something is really strong with Orzhov Guildgate, Hold the Line, and Thrull Parasite. Maybe even Kingpin's Pet if people are too scared to go into 2 colors.
That's the point. If a tokens deck becomes good people will just start running this card and it will become a tier 5 deck because it will be impossible for them to gain any board position without an anthem effect.
It prevents any token deck from ever being top tier simply by existing. Nobody has to sideboard it for it to invalidate token strategies.
The exact same argument was said abut Cavern of Souls and counter spells... Hey look, pretty sure they still exist and see play.
Yeah I see this more as the card you put in when you want Sever the Bloodline, but aren't black. Instant opens some doors, sure. but I think the majority of the time, if I can play it, I'd prefer Sever
I honestly don't understand why people keep putting Stromkirk Noble in these lists... it'll rarely be better than simply a Rakdos Cackler. The meta isnt overbrimming with humans anymore and if they're playing anything else it simply won't connect. My choice of 1-drop is actually Stonewright, especially since it has great synergy with boros charm and first/double strike. To that same effect I like Truefire Paladin (or even Sunhome Guildmage) over Ash Zealot, since Ash Zealot coming out turn 2 is unlikely, and if it comes out any later it's not very good. Truefire Paladin actually makes a fine topdeck. Why play Firemane Avenger over Hellrider? And why only 3 Boros Charm? You cray cray
The angel appears after all the attackers have already been declared and therefore does not add to the Battalion count. This has kinda been said several times in this forum. It's the same reason why GoST actually interacts favorably with exalted. When he attacks, he is considered attacking alone as far as exalted is concerned, and the same would go for Batallion
@ Daut: There is no "X spell cycle" It's even been removed from the list of cycles from the spoiler site you referenced. It's purely coincidence that there has been 1 rare x spell of each color combination so far in GTC... this doesn't exist in RtR so there's especially no reason to expect a cycle since every cycle in GTC so far has a counterpart in RTR
@Fissure: So long as it's sorcery speed, I actually don't find that to be "busted" at all. 4 mana is strictly worse than midnight haunting by a mile and at 6 mana you create the same amount of tokens lingering souls does with 5 and the exact same color requirements. This would be perfectly reasonable at rare.
Orzhov Charm WB
Instant
Choose one - Deal 2 damage to target creature or player and you gain
2 life; remove target card in a graveyard from the game and put a 1/1
black and white spirit creature token with flying into play; creatures you
control gain vigilance until the end of turn.
That first mode would never happen. The shock part of izzet charm only targets creatures. Being able to do 2 damage to a creature OR player AND gain 2 life just wouldn't happen.
For 2HG I'm doing Double Orzhov and Double Dimir probably.. I think Orzhov is the best guild overall for 2hg (at least their emchanic is), but DAMN that Dimir Promo is sooooo good in 2HG. Counts each opponent's graveyard? This'll be a 10/10+ most the time I'm sure, and make's Rubblehulk look like an ant, on top of being very likely to win via mill (which is quite, quite common to happen in 2hg). I haven't exactly decided what I'm doing for the basic 1v1 sealed events, but atm I'm thinking Orzhov, Boros, and Simic. I am a diehard Boros lover, despite the current spoilers making it look like by far the weakest guild. Simic I think looks like the easiest to do well with (The evolve mechanic will help them win most creature wars I'm sure). And my current favorite card in standard is Blood Artist, so to have a slice of that with Orzhov excites me. I checked off Orzhov because it's the one I will probably sign up for the most events with.
I also think Simic and Gruul will synergize the best. They are the 2 guilds that will have the biggest creatures and so capitalizing on that will work very well, as will the fact that they share green (as someone else already mentioned). It was always easier for me to go selesnya/golgari than anything else in RTR. I think they'll also be the 2 best guilds for draft too simply because, simic particularly, is so amazingly aggressively costed that simply having dudes on the field will pretty much wall off every other guild it seems like.
I find "counter target creature spell unless its controller pays 2" highly likely, honestly... since we have the non-creature variant in ur (the 2 spell colors), giving it to g (the premiere creature color) makes sense.
