The reason I put the red stripe bit in there is because it is a little hard to distinguish the 80 card lands between the hundred for me.

And I will put the random card bit in there. Thanks for the info!

After logging in for the first time in months, The first post I see is about the packs form walmarts that has ebeen do9ne to death. This forum is often flooded with "has anyone seen these walmart packs?" This post will serve as a F.A.Q. for new shoppers or new players wondering if they are worth the $30 dollars.

We know what they are, here is what you need to know.

There are many versions of the value pack. The most common two versions are the acrylic containers and blister booster three packs. Keep in mind the containers are not the one I have linked to above. Often they do not cards propperly. They are often too small and will not fit sleeved cards at all. Most of the time the contianers are not meant for playing cards. Sometimes however, you do find a double container that does fit sleeved cards.

Possible contents of the acrylic shells.

    -Pre-constructed decks
---These can vary from anything to everything. In my first hand experience i have seen one or both halves of duel decks (Jace Vs Chandra, Ajani Vs Bolas, Elves vs Goblins etc.), to older boxed pre-cons such as anything form core set theme, to Kamigawa, Mirroden. Anything in this style is fair game. Even things as recent as Return to Ravnica starter decks are makingn an appearance. Commander decks will also show up occasionally. They try to hide the contents of the shrink wrapped decks. The way to see if there is in fact a commander deck is in the pack is to look for the red band around the deck.

NOTE: These are deck only and maybe a strategy insert. You will most likely not get all of the cards if the original packaging has cards displayed on the front of the package such as deul decks, Premuim Deck Series etc.

    -Booster packs
--- These boosters are often of the newer sets, and I for one have not seen boosters from a set older than a year. These boosters may also be 6-card boosters that may not have a rare ($1.99 card packs near checkout).

    -Sleeves
---Packs of 50 sleeves have appeared as far back as a few months ago. More often than not, they are Legion sleeves, but there isn't enough to sleeve a full deck. Sometimes the container claim 100 sleeves but have two different packs of 50. Remember, your deck must have matching sleeves in order to be legal for tournament play.

    -Lands
---Packs of lands containing either 50-80 assorted lands. Some of the "precronstructed" decks may be all lands.

    -Semi-Random cards
---These are a pack of semi randomized cards that you will find in the deck builders toolkit. NOTE: these will be advertised as a deck by themselves.

    Now for the blister packs.

    Three Booster blister with promo

    -The Promo
---These consist of usually three booster packs and a promo card that is exclusive for the value pack. The current promo is Angel of Glory's Rise, which is the front most card. Previous cards have been back facing outward and ranged from anything from Brian Stoutarm, to lands from the Fire and Lightning PDS.

    -The boosters
---The boosters will range, depending are how fast your locations moves through cards. My store has nothing further back than Innistrad currently. These are NOT boxmapped I have pulled too much value for this to be true. Either that or the mappers are way bad.

    Nostalgia Packs

-Last time i saw these, they consisted of four boosters from far back. I pulled a Jace out of the only Worldwake pack I have ever opened out of these. NOTE: I have not seen these since early 2012.

REMEMBER, Stores like walmart and Target have a third party do all of their TCG stuff. So any of these may not be present or new things may show up. This is only a primer, and an effort to stop our forum from being flooded with recurring posts.

Here is a thread started by me last yearwith links in it to other threads talking about the same thing.

If we could make this a sticky I feel like it will be beneficial to everyone involved, whether it be new or old members alike.

First off I do this. Just to save space. ThR other day I had someone yell at me for it. I explained that it isn't technically illegal, (I could be wrong with this) and that it saves alot of space. He thought I only had one mana open when he attacked forthe win as I Beast withined his dude.

    So two part question:

Is stackin lands in separate piles, 1 for tapped and 1 for un, ok in your book?

What other legal board tricks do you like to do?

I play mono green. Agroish. But with all the lingering should walking flying around, what are some good wipes? I've got targeted removal ala beast within and naturalize. And birds to boot. I was thinking of siding 3 or 4 blasphemous acts. But with that it get underneath hex proof but does it get under Sowap? That one is mostly for the gost really.

P.s.: I would tag all the cards but my phone is total ****.

Standard. And maybe a few 10 buck drafts. But that right there's 50 bucks. And I of course am not going to drop. It'll be my first major event. I want to see how badly I get beat.

Oh I am fully aware that I will be playing against hundreds and hundreds of dollars. But my logic is if I'm playin comp at fnm to be the very best, like no one ever was, I'll have to try out an open.

    False.

If you have debt because you're trying to make your education pay off in the long run (via school loans and other expenses) and have a productive, happy future you need to do something to keep from going insane in the meantime. People like hobbies. Maybe there are cheaper hobbies - but Magic is a hobby that should be just that - fun.

It shouldn't require you to have to go dump massive amounts of money into it in order to not lose every week. It does though.

Since Standard is pretty consistent right now in its requirements for at least two Sword of War and Peace's to be competitive.

Or maybe you're eschewing that and playing Delver with four Snapcaster's as a prerequisite for the most part.

Or Wolf Run Ramp with six Titans.

    Or Junkwalkers with twenty Planeswalkers.

And if you're budgeting to only thirty dollars a month there is a pretty good chance that the deck you just built over that period rotates before you even finish it.

At this point I'm down to just proxying my cards and enjoying all the goodness that Fantasy Flight Games puts out (along with games like Dominion) without requiring me to kill myself financially in order to stay competitive and win once in awhile. Guarantee my $30 a month for Fantasy Flight Games would go leagues farther than $30 a month in Magic does.

This game comes down to money and is moderately expensive. You either have it or it becomes a hobby you can't really play competitively. So much for FNM than, right?

Excactly. People need a hobby. And besides let's do the math.

-start with 30 bucks a month.

-FNM is five each. With four per month that's 20 bucks. 25 on a fun month.( let face it if you arnt playing competitively you are not going to get any prizes.

    - do your up to fifteen spare if you go twice to test. Fifteen can't even get you a titan. And what are the odds of a good pu in 3 bps? @Op this is clearly a brain flame thread aimed at people who have deoted 5 years of thier life to a card game. Wise up man.
