Im also wondering if manlands/ awaken cards would provide enough of a win condition.
I've considered splashing white for Shambling Vent and Planar Outburst,
although this obviously makes the manabase much jankier and probably slows the deck down by quite a bit.
(But I definitely love the idea of a deck that wins with Demonic Pact and land creatures/ Octopus tokens)
I like the idea of Despise, I wanted to test it out, but was not sure if it should go maindeck or sideboard.
I'm also going to experiment with cutting Silumgar's Command to two copies or one, and replace with Rite of Undoing/ Disperse.
I played a few games where I drew all three and wished one copy was a cheaper spell that could trigger Tendrils surge cost.
Also testing with Sphinx as maindeck win condition, as I dont have a ton of fetch-lands for Empty the Pits.
(Also testing whether this will be a viable deck after rotation.)
Since we lose the Delve draw cards after rotation-
and Innistrad is going in the opposite direction
(filling your graveyard instead of emptying it)
I wonder if Jace will become a necessary card for this deck
I hope not, as it will be an easy target for removal unless cast much later in the game backed up with counterspell protection
Nothing is "wrong" with FOX News. They are actually quite brilliant.
They are selling a product. That product being an extreme right-wing, Christian conservative point of view.
Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Greta Van Susteren etc make a really good living saying things that they probably don't even believe. (Most of it, at least)
They cater to a certain demographic, and make a ton of money doing so.
Can be very good, but I think it depends on the deck you are facing.
The fact that is an Instant makes a HUGE difference sometimes, since all of our other removal is Sorcery speed.
Having someone swing with a Silverblade Paladin and its paired creature, only to destroy the Paladin and block the now un-paired creature and kill it just feels so good.
I've also used this to destroy opposing Keyrunes, tokens of all kinds, Detention Sphere etc.
Yeah it definitely depends on where you live/ play.
There was a Modern Qualifier at my local store and less than 10 people showed up.
(30 people show up to play Standard events, with up to 75 at large pre-release events etc.)
I'm hoping the reprints to Shock lands will help get more people into the format.
If other cards are re-printed, that would be great.
Props to mafteechr and any TOs that do what they can to get more people interested in the format in their area.
I think this card will be very good in CERTAIN MATCHUPS
(like a BG Zombie Mirror match)
What I think a lot of people are forgetting is that Wizards seems to really be pushing the U/R Izzet guild
Those decks will certainly have a lot of burn spells, Snapcaster Mage to re-cast them etc
This card seems like it would be very weak to that type of deck.
But against a creature deck that doesn't have burn or Dreadbore it will be VERY powerful
For those reasons I think it will be main-deck in some sort of control deck, sideboard tech for some matchups
and will settle somewhere closer to Jace, Memory Adept than the $30 pre-order price.
1. Play paper mostly. A little MTGO ($10-20 a month) and test on Cockatrice.
2. Think about magic a few hours of the day.
3. Don't think about Magic when focusing on other things.
4. Probably spend more money than I should
5. I've gotten a LOT better about not buying cards I'm not going to use
6. Lucky if I get so spend a night at FNM
7. Spend a couple hours a day reading all sites/ blogs etc so 15-20 hours a week
8. Other people would probably say that I prioritize Magic, but not above other things that are really important
9. I usually go a week or two without playing but I would be a little sad if I couldn't read about a tournament report or something for more than a week
10. Favorite color is Black. I love Dredge mechanic and anything using the Graveyard as an additional zone. (Snapcaster etc)
11. Slightly addicted, but it doesn't ruin my life and I've been addicted to way worse stuff.
With the Magic Players Championship final being Modern format,
and the reprinting of Shocklands in RtR ( modern staple card being reprinted )
does anyone else believe that WOTC is trying to push Modern as a format?
Will we see more Modern tournaments as PTQ etc?
Will there be Modern GPs in the future?
Do you think other Modern staples will be reprinted?
Amazing when Miracaled, good when hard-cast.
As mentioned, it is splashable, which adds a lot to its power.
But it is mostly powerful right now because of the way standard is playing out.
Players take turn playing creatures with a ton of value (draw cards/ gain life/ produce tokens when they enter)
until the board is cluttered, then whoever miracles Bonfire wins.
Ehh it happens.
I was doing really well for a while, making top 8 in draft and Standard most weeks.
I haven't been playing as much recently, and when I do, I haven't done better than 50-50 in a few weeks.
But I know I will be back on top eventually.
I haven't found a deck I really like recently.
That's a huge part of it, honestly.

The fact it only costs one colored mana makes it more splashable.
Vigilance can end up being huge.
They must have gotten a ton of orders for that card and were forced to cancel all but the very first orders.

Which will be better is hard to say, especially with so few cards spoiled so far.
Jund style BGR may be a deck, and may use some Zombies, but I think it will be a much different deck than the Zombie aggro decks will end up being.

I really hope the other cards in the set continue with the same style.
