I wondering if we won't get some story info from the cards alone, like Chandras training with the monks or Liliana training and demom deals, as part of the new creative approach.
Honesty I wish they could have just linked us to the web comic then give the rest of the story to devople Liliana before she made her fourth deal, although the thought she'll be cursed with Josu when she dies does give another reason she made the deals to become immortal.
While it didn't really matter that Liliana was from Dominaria or her first walk being Innistrad, I can't blame wizards wanting to use popualr planes in those slots.
@Yatsufusa, Bolas looked down on Malfegor, yes. He considered him an abomination for having his dragonhood tainted with foul demonic genes or whatever. I'm not saying Malfegor is powerful or smart, just that it's weird Bolas didn't use him to bind Liliana to him in some fashion.
Whos to say Malfegor had the power to help Liliana?
Unfortunately scry, while it could be heavier in UB, is something everyone has access to. Importantly, its also not a creature keyword. I suppose the topic didn't specify that, but really what people are looking for is a UB evergreen that modifies creature combat.
I used scry as a saboteur effect on creatures since as mentioned UB is good with evasion.
I think a Sabotuer effects in general could be an intresting aim for a UB mechanic.
Looking at the list, it seems like flying coulda-shoulda been UB to begin with and vigilance coulda-shoulda been WU. But I'm pretty sure that ship has sailed. The only way to change it would be TS2.
I actually expected exactly that to happen (or flash becuming instead). But apparently the game-play benefit of vigilance in green is better/more meaningful.
It because vigilance plays differently in green (which normally have larger aggro creatures) then it would in blue (which would have small defensive creatures like white).
I'm working on a heavly muti-color and hybrid set for UB I just gave them scry. Just an idea.
She did study with other tribes, my only quip is that for someone who went to Lorwyn and studied B magic, her planeswalker doesn't really reflect that. In truth her walker side actually is GW, as it makes tokens and animates lands. Wtf?
When is land animation a white thing? We have been told a planeswalker card dosn't reflect the whole range of alilites a walker can do and with this version of Nissa in a coreset we got what I expected, a mono-green Nissa with mono-green abilities.
Well that was written years ago right? I can't see why they need to keep such ancient lore canon.
Yes, I'm bitter and disillusioned with creative currently.
Well I could see them rectoning that out to keep Nissa more mono-green since she is the only currant mono-green planeswalker!!!!!!!!!!! (This anger isn't directed at you, just a frusted green player here).
Also keep in mind Nissa was suppost to be BG (atleast going by her appareance in Duels of the planeswalkers) but I think with Vraska and Gaurrk around we have enough BG walkers and with the lack of mono-green walkers Nissa fills that gap.
Spiderman is certainly one of the most popular stand alone heroes, I just think he doesn't fit into this particular world very well. On this plane spiderman's sort of a mid-teir hero. While we definitely want to play to expectations, we also want to show off some creativity. Not everyone can get a piece of the limelight.
Okay I didn't realize it but seem to be on differnt mindset. When I ment a Spiderman character I ment more of a Peter Parker character who is younger and kinda rash but very smart (and maybe techie?), bonus points if we had him with a "bug" theme...
That said, maybe we're looking at this wrong. What if we made Spiderman our BG Hero/Villain, leaning him much further towards the whole "spider" thing. Not only does this let us include him with our own spin, but it could also serve as the BG Spider lord that people are always looking for.
I llike the templating be differnt from card to card in order to make it sound right. I think, like bestow, people will intuitively get it and I think if we don't let them get ablilities when they mutate at common it takes out some of the complexity.
Putting a creature type in mutate while fun, dosn't seem worth the complexity. While flavorly cool, I think most of the time it won't matter if our creature is a Human Mutant Bird, unless we wanna add some more tribal elements. Add in trying to give them ablilies each time they mutate and I think it would be clearer to have something like this;
Bird Boy 1W
Creature-Human Mutant U
Mutate W (If this creature has less then three +1/+1 counters put a +1/+1 counter on it. Mutate only as a sorcery.)
As long as ~ has three or more +1/+1 counters or has mutated this turn, it has flying.
1/1
In general I think we should start coming up with names for characters and places, it will give everyting more of an identity. I will go through and pull out name we had been throwing around just to see if wanna go with somewhere in that direction.
RW Planeswalker
I'm good with either or, I just brought it up since Flash was the character they use to introduce the dc mutiverse (and started the comic book mutiverse trope) with and it seems like a good fit to have him as a a planeswalker.
UR Legendary
I suggested Spiderman since in a bunch of polls and Top X lists the top 5 superheros are Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Wolvirne (alsp to represent the X-men) and Wonder Woman so I figured we should try to have as many of them as we can as legendary creatures. We have Superman and Batman parelles and our mutant tribal is this worlds "x-men". While I am a huge fan of Wonder Woman, I like the duel colored legends we have figured out to try and don't want to force her in and shuffle everything around. However we could work in a Spiderman like character in UR since the character still up in the air.
BG Legendary
While I'm not sold on a Bane character, I'm drawing a blank for what our BG charcter could be and that stealing +1/+1 counters seems really intresting.
TBH I was kicking around the same idea lol I'm on board with a cap at three since unless we have a 0/1 mutant. Also I think we should have them start out as mutants and gain their ablilites at the three counters mark for gameplay, a lot like how werewolves on Innistrad cards where werewolves on both sides to help they with tribal.
I think we should wait for mutants to reach thier full cap to get any ablilites (at least at common and maybe uncommon).
Plus it won't be pushed as much as it was in Khans. Also since it can trigger off non-creatures any set with a artifact, enchantment, instand and sorcery theme in it gets some added support.
Okay I dug through this and we have this so far, I'll note anything I want to rethink or talk about;

We need to iorn out some details for the duel colors legendaries as well find name for our characters. As I said above we could do a homage and make our RW walker a Flash like character and make our RW A thor like character. We also need to nail down UR and BG chacraters. To be honesty a Firestore chacrter might work as the UR, thought I'd still like to get a Spiderman character in. I'm still not sure about the BG villain.

I'm on board with instants since I like the flavore of mutants mutating happening at amy moment.
@legends I think that version steps on the toes of our maybe Super mechanic.
