Evaders99 posted a message on Tribal cards I wish we had gotten in Eldritch MoonNebelgast seems overly complicated. I'd either keep the symmetric creature enters/dies and gains a +1/1 counter (maybe a seperate +1/+1 trigger when it enters) or the counters on death and they stay as it changes zones.Posted in: Custom Card Creation
Putting creatures on the battlefield transformed seems pretty broken, but I guess if we already have spells that transform at instant speed...
Too bad we didn't get a flavorful EDH werewolf. -

While I'm a secondary source for this, the majority of people I saw on Tumblr were only angry about Hal and Alena not getting a card, and had nothing but praise for the rest of their presentation. Unfortunately, I haven't seen much talk about Chandra/Nissa specifically, but that is likely due to the people I follow having different (but equally lesbian) ships for both. So I think they'd be fairly supportive of Chandra/Nissa, given that I rarely see the "it's only exploitative representation" argument used by actual lesbian and bi women, who would just like some sort of major representation at all before we start quibbling over how exploitative it is (Which I personally feel is more a function of how it's presented, not inherent to it being a lesbian or gay relationship).Quote from OathboundOne »Quote from echelon_house »Ok, so we know have three gay men who are somewhat iffy on the idea of Chandra/Nissa MTG's first LBGTQ representation. I'd really love to know what opinion a lesbian player would have on the matter. Any takers?
Quite curious about that myself.
Also, any thoughts on Hal and Alena's appearances.
Personally, I think it would be best if both Gideon/Jace and Chandra/Nissa got together in a short amount of time, thus proving that practically no one in the Gatewatch is straight.
Serious real-deal honest question - What would be interpreted as 'exploitative representation' and why?
I would interpret it as utilizing a character(particularly of a minority group) in a way that's solely motivated by marketing appeal to (or social beliefs of) their primary demographic while potentially reinforcing negative stereotypes, or otherwise outright misrepresenting the depicted group(s).
The example mentioned previously in thos thread for inatance: overt sexualization of lesbian characters, as a means of appealing to an IP's heterosexual male demographic, rather than a more reasonable/realistic depiction of a lesbian couple, meant to appeal to, or simply accurately reflect, the lgbt segment of the consumer base. -

OathboundOne posted a message on Magic Story Articles Discussion: SOI & EMN [No Spoilers]Posted in: Magic StorylineQuote from 5colors »Quote from OathboundOne »I can only really think of a few entities that she might consider herself answerable to:
The Soratami (collectively, or perhaps a superior/mentor)
The Myojin (she still upholds and honors many of Kamigawa's traditional beliefs)
The Sisters of Flesh and Spirit (the end-all-be-all of Kamigawa's authority)
Any of those she could resonably avoid by simply avoiding Kamigawa(some of them she could probably defeat/destroy id it came down to it) but she seems the type to hold herself accountable, even if there was no way that THEY could.
Tamiyo is a mother and has a close family so I think she'd want to return home at some point.
There is that, too.
I wasn't really suggesting avoidance as a course of action, just acknowledging its possibility. Really I was more attempting to emphasize that she would likely hold herself accountable even towards planebound beings that themselves had little or no means of holding her to her word. (assuming she doesn't have some kind of contractual binding like Liliana) -

Jace is attractive too, as was Venser IMO. The Bident seems just as lively as ever. The description which said the Bident lost power also claimed Kiora fought toe-to-toe with Thassa when in reality Kiora lost horribly. I think that was the short hand way of saying the Bident was no longer an Enchantment as it lost the Nyx star field. Also, Thassa actually knows all the Bident's capabilities, whereas Kiora openly admits to herself she has much to learn about it, and Jace exposes her for that, too. Gideon does mention he has a few questions for Kiora before Jori En arrives at Sea Gate to tell them all that Ulamog is arriving.Quote from 5colors »Quote from Goryo »I though today's little glimpse into his psyche was tantalizing. His Emrakul-vision of Erebos suggested that there's much hidden in him, and that he's motivated by something deeper that he tries to conceal from himself and dress up with noble pretentions. It was just a glimpse, but it was a good one and piqued my interest.
Honesty this the one reason I think Gideon has any depth. As much as I love play white and am white aligned, Gideon is as boring as the 3 inches of mud that almost killed him. And while I get writing do goody characters is hard to do, Ajani and Elspeth imo did it better. However, seeing that what really motivates him isn't to protect others but something else.
Quote from Jenrik »I wonder if he will return to Theros when we wind up back there, and if he'll want the Gatewatch to pursue Kiora and the Bident and relive her of it, just like Lillana and her Chain Veil. We've seen Kiora wield that weapon very callously, and it's just too powerful to let her keep it IMO. The thing could end coastal life with how Kiora throws around entire seas with it as she did on Zendikar. In the hands of one god on one plane is different from a traveling mage going ocean to ocean with the thing.
Who know what Kiora will be doing. After the titans where burned she seemed very lost and shaken idk if she would be using the bident much. Re-reading the moment they met Gideon doesn't seem that upset that Kiora has the bident...if he even realizes she had stolen it....
Also didn't the bident lose a lot of power after it was taken out of Theros?
Can we please get some shirtless Gideon though.
Yeah, especially since he is the only really good-looking male human walker. -

Bolas takes all but a sliver of the power of the Conflux. He does get what he wants. Ajani uses the leftover sliver to create a soul duplicate, which runs him off.Quote from Weebos »I'm fairly certain Bolas didn't get what he wanted from Alara, he wanted to harness the energy of the Conflux to regain his power, but Ajani stopped him.
This is all assuming that Alara book I read years ago is canon.
But he still got what he wanted. -

Flisch posted a message on Sorin - Nahiri Timeline?Posted in: Magic StorylineQuote from Mangod »Quote from Flisch »While I agree with you that Bolas is a terrible character and villain, he is canonically supposed to be this powerful scheming mastermind with plans within plans within plans within plans. They haven't done a very good job at showing us this. (Infact, they did a terrible job for reasons you already partly outlined.) In the end, we can't really dismiss him as not being powerful, because inlore he is acknowledged as such by other very powerful beings.
As for the Eldrazi being a threat to him: I never bought the explanation that the Eldrazi are a threat to the multiverse as a whole. Even if they would consume an entire plane each day, or three (considering there were three.) they'd still probably never be finished. The Eldrazi are a threat to individual planes, but not to all of them. As for Bolas' pet worlds falling prey to the Eldrazi: I don't think he'd care that much. And if matters come to worse, he surely would find a way to drive them off a world. We have already been shown, that it is possible to at least delay an Eldrazi titan entering a world (Avacyn) and to lure them elsewhere (Nahiri).
I think a large part of the problem where the Eldrazi are concerned is that they got stomped by the Gatewatch, when Ugin, Sorin and Nahiri could only seal them away. When they released Revelation at the Eye, I expected the story to end with the Gatewatch just barely driving off Ulamog, and then having to try and device some means of resealing it on another plane. But nope, Chandra kills Ulamog AND Kozilek, reducing the Cosmic Horror Eldritch Abominations to jobber status.
It's kind of hard to buy that Bolas would even need these things as a distraction for... whatever he's up to, when the greenhorn neowalkers manage to kill the Eldrazi where three extradimensional wizard-gods couldn't do it - or maybe Ugin, Sorin and Nahiri never even tried?
Exactly. They never tried. When Nahir (or Sorin?) asked if the titans couldn't be killed, Ugin says that it may not be possible* and at any rate would be unwise. Ugin wanted to seal the titans away, because he didn't know what kind of purpose they were serving for the multiverse. In this way, if they indeed proved to be irreplaceable, they could just re-release the Eldrazi, whereas the multiverse would be doomed, had they killed them.
Long story short, people really need to stop saying that the Zendikar Trio could not kill the titans. They simply never tried. (Of course, this doesn't mean the gatewatch should have been able to kill the Eldrazi as quickly and unceremeniously as they did, for narrative reasons, but at least it doesn't directly contradict established lore.)
*Since he used a "may", he never outright stated it was impossible. -

Take a look here;
http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/magic-fundamentals/magic-storyline/550424-why-does-xenagos-deserve-to-die
Just to take a few point from that thread and the storyline;
Xenagos is sadistic
He killed his own twin in the womb
He tried to kill his mother multiple times
His reveals often ended up with the murder and/or enslavement of several people
He tricked the minotaurs into attacking Akros
He used Worst Fear to have Elspeth kill Daxos
Unslaved a bunch of Nyx born creature, draining their power so he could maintain his godhood.
And I'm sure I'm miss a ton of stuff. The fact you are showing empathy for him isn't because he was just painted a villain, it is because wizards was able to make a well written villain with motivations you can understand.

IMO on the planes walkers ratio;
Good
Ajani Goldmane
Venser
Dack Fayden
Elspeth Tirel
Gideon Jura
Jace Beleren
Karn
Koth
Neutral leans toward good/evil
Chandra Nalaar (seems more good)
Tamiyo (seems more on the good, but we don't know much about her)
Sarkhan Vol (seemed pretty neutral until he started following Bolas)
Sorin Markov
Liliana Vess (seemeds more evil, acting out only for herself, but wizards seems to be setting her up as an anti-hero)
Nissa Revane (She seems...unpleasent but I feel like she gonna redeem herself)
Ral Zarek (seemd more evil)
Domri Rade (more of a coin flip here depends on how Domri acts in the future)
Kiora (I don't get the hate for her, she prideful, yes, a trickers, yes, evil, no)
Garruk Wildspeaker(we'll see where this cursed Garruk ends up)
Evil
Xenagos
Vraska (used to be neutral leans towards evil)
Ashiok
Nicol Bolas
Tibalt
Tezzeret

Agreed. Though i'm not a fan of W/B but the returning is pretty nice on its own. Plus it gives you more spell to cast and trigger extort.

For me I think is like a fungus. A ever growing force of nature that feeds on death but has a "hive mind" like mentality. With no , work based on its instinct in a traditional since. Grow and feed but always in the same patterns.
Anyone agree or disagree?
