Kalitas contains no triggered abilities (review C.R. 603.1), but rather has a replacement effect that changes what happens if "a nontoken creature an opponent controls would die". Such creatures wouldn't die, but are exiled instead (C.R. 614.1a, 614.6), so that Patron of the Vein's last ability won't trigger (C.R. 603.2). However, that effect doesn't apply to creature tokens, so Patron of the Vein's last ability would still trigger if a creature token an opponent controls dies (assuming the same player controls both Patron of the Vein and Kalitas) (note that creature tokens can go to the graveyard like other permanents [C.R. 111.6; review C.R. 700.4]).
EDIT (Nov. 11, 2021): One rule was renumbered in the meantime.

Argus Panoptes posted a message on Tapped creature being forced to attack?Yes. The rules for "fight" make no reference to the tapped/untapped status of the creatures involved.Posted in: Magic Rulings
701.12. Fight
701.12a A spell or ability may instruct a creature to fight another creature or it may instruct two creatures to fight each other. Each of those creatures deals damage equal to its power to the other creature.
701.12b If one or both creatures instructed to fight are no longer on the battlefield or are no longer creatures, neither of them fights or deals damage. If one or both creatures are illegal targets for a resolving spell or ability that instructs them to fight, neither of them fights or deals damage.
701.12c If a creature fights itself, it deals damage to itself equal to twice its power.
701.12d The damage dealt when a creature fights isn’t combat damage.
In fact, if the ability of Hans Eriksson results in a fight, it will almost always be between two tapped creatures. -

WizardMN posted a message on Tapped creature being forced to attack?Yes, that is legal. Nothing about that scenario is illegal because Stomp doesn't say it has to target an untapped creature and Fighting is not Combat (and thus not Attacking) so being tapped is irrelevant for being able to Fight.Posted in: Magic Rulings -

ashrog posted a message on Tapped creature being forced to attack?Fighting and attacking are not the same thing. Tapped creatures cannot attack (even if they have vigilance) but they can still fight. Similarly, note that if the creature was untapped, fighting does not cause it to tap (unless the fight spell or ability says so).Posted in: Magic Rulings -

schnerbst posted a message on My first EDH Deck: Gonti, Lord of LuxuryWelcome to the best MTG format =)Posted in: Multiplayer Commander Decklists
You already put together a list with pretty high powered cards, so you clearly know whats good in the format.
Most of your card draw draw will come from Gonti himself, so you won't have much trouble with your low card draw count. However, your manabase is lacking. 36 Lands is already on the low side (imo 37 is better) and you run very little ramp. Aim for roughly 45 Mana sources counting lands and mana rocks/ramp. Since Gonti lets you cast spells disregarding colors, I really suggest running efficient colorless mana rocks like Thought Vessel, Worn Powerstone and Thran Dynamo. You really want to be able to cast more than one spell each turn, especially if you have Gonti ETBing at least once each turn cycle with all of your flicker and reanimation effects.
Your list also lacks any interaction with artifacts and enchantments. I suggest running Feed the Swarm and catch-alls like Meteor Golem, which synergizes very well with your reanimation/flicker effects. Unstable Obelisk helps with ramping as well as removing must-answer-permanents in a pinch.
When it comes to cards you would like to include but have no room for, I suggest simply playing the deck to identify the cards that underperform for you or simply aren't to your taste. EDH is a format thats very much about self-expression, and it is perfectly reasonable to cut powerful cards that create play patterns you (or your opponents) can't enjoy in favor of pet cards or things that seem fun to you. To me, your decklists looks pertty much like the copy-paste average Gonti decklist from EDHrec. Maybe that is exactly what you want, but I find that playing pet/niche/fun cards is what makes me want to play a deck again and again. So this is me encouraging you to try stuff out and personalize your deck. -

ThyLordQ posted a message on Kaldheim Commander Product Face CardsPosted in: The Rumor MillQuote from hoffmkr »Will be interesting with the Elves. Been 12+ years since last elf precon was released. There are a ton of $3-5 elves out there. This isn’t “new” since I can find at least two other mono-green, but a twist and chance to bring back some oldies. I wonder if this will spike demand for allosaurus shepherd even more?
This seemed a bit off to me, so I did a quick look:
Legions Theme Deck: Elvish Rage, 2003
Lorwyn Theme Deck: Elvish Predation, 2007
Duel Deck: Elves vs. Goblins, 2007 (Reprinted 2014)
Duels of the Planeswalkers Theme Deck: Ears of the Elves, 2010
Commander 2014 Commander Deck: Guided by Nature, 2014 (Reprinted 2017)
Magic Origins Intro Pack: Hunting Pack, 2015
Duel Deck: Elves vs. Inventors, 2018
There might be other products I missed, but we have been getting Elf precons a bit more recently than 12+ years ago. (Quality of each deck will be subjective, of course.)
Still, excited for another world with elf tribal as a factor. Of the last 5 years of sets, 14 of the 24 had elves in the set at all, and very little elf tribal in any, outside of perhaps the Core sets. (Goblins were present in 17 of the 24 sets, for a comparison to another beloved tribe.)
EDIT: Missed some supplemental sets. Of the 13 of those (Battlebond, Conspiracy: Take the Crown, Modern Masters 2015, Modern Masters 2017, Ultimate Masters, Double Masters, Masters 25, Eternal Masters, Unstable, Iconic Masters, Mystery Booster, Modern Horizons, and Commander Legends) Elves showed up in 11, and Goblins in all 13, updating their totals to 26 of 37, and 30 of 37 respectively. Reprint heavy supplemental sets seem off to me to include, but for the sake of absolute honesty, those are the facts I can recall and double check. -

There is a Rulings Forum for questions like that and, as hoffmkr points out, using card tags is mandatory.Posted in: Magic General
As to your question, each of those cards add one trigger. So, with both, you get 3 triggers instead of 1 for each Landfall trigger whenever a land enters since you get 2 extra triggers (one from Yarok and one from Greenwarden). So, Elemental gets +6/+6 total. Moraug would get you 3 extra combat phases. And so on for anything else with Landfall. -

Perodequeso posted a message on How does your play group feel about/use proxies?I've played in plenty of casual groups and every single one was against proxies. And even when a particular group is OK with them, the individual players feel awkward using them. There's this notion that "casual" players just don't care about these things, aren't as financially invested as tournament grinders, and just have an anything goes attitude. In my personal experience all of those are categorically false. Almost every casual player I know are sticklers for the rules, particularly construction rules, are extremely proud of their collections, and spend way more money on the game than they ought to. With all that in mind, proxies are looked upon as cheating. Their attitudes are play what you own, and if that means moving cards around from deck to deck then so be it. Magic cards are like a little micro economy, and proxies are viewed as counterfeits (with the exception of proxying up cards for a test run). The basic attitude is if you need it, buy it, but don't bring that fake garbage around here. And these are people who are cool with silver-bordered cards in decks.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
I know many casual players will disagree with this take on proxies, and I'm personally fine with responsible use of them, but using proxies will almost certainly degenerate into what you're currently experiencing. I would advise that you suggest to your group to roll back on or forego using them altogether, at least for a while. They've become a crutch for your groups deck building, time to walk without the crutch me thinks.
We added a new player to our group earlier this year. He was brand new to the game. At one point he purchased a bunch of powerful proxies just so he could keep up with the rest of us. He no longer uses those proxies, he feels like he's cheating even though the rest of us are cool with it.
Proxying cards you already own on the other hand feels different, not cheating, just efficiency of deck construction. So it'll be harder to convince them they should give up the practice. Maybe try to get them to see the beauty in having decks with varying power levels, a jank fest can be fun. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Note: We are planning an upcoming B&R announcement. In that announcement, we plan to ban Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath in Pioneer, Modern, and Historic. Additionally, we are continuing discussions about doing the same in Legacy. While we are still working internally on the larger B&R announcement for that week, we wanted to share this information ahead of this sale.

yes, without MSRP, the cost of a pack will end up higher in Cali than Colorado, but that is like most everything.

Hate paying $60 after shipping and tax for just a handful of cards, but most of these running $30 each at retail right now.
Hoping to offload most of the rest to friends at LGS to share pain/cost.
Very frustrating to get a special product by “blackmail” versus “oooh, I want that”.

M21 is getting so many variants w collector boosters containing borderless while set not being strong that inventory sitting on shelf.
Jumpstart was a demanded product that LGS got almost nothing initially and restock was 5+ weeks later while Target was getting new packs every week at a lower price.
If wizards values LGS, give them product to sell as a priority versus heavily discounted big box stores.

That would make it more random and more balanced.

Bought a box and been using it to teach my ten year old through pack wars.
One drawback is only 1 of 24 packs was green so bad for teaching and value for me.
Too many blue packs which not easy color to learn on.

Your blue has a great army of fliers and might be a better choice than white but I like to be a little more aggressive if I don't have great removal. Psychic Symbiont can be a great card in sealed.
Even though you have 3 good pieces of removal in red, not sure it's worth a 3rd color just for that with all the creatures you have to put pressure on them early.
I was not impressed with the green in your pool. To me, you have 3 cards better in any other color than your best in green.
