If that's your only fixing option, you might HAVE to pick it - and use it, which is a total feelbad.

It's different on a rare - they don't come up as often (Especially back when they printed painlands, as set sizes were larger). But uncommons are all over the place.

The smaller set sizes, and the ramifications of that on limited, are a primary reason why we haven't seen any painlands since 10th edition.

    Harsh Punishment 2W(B/R)
    Instant (U)
Destroy target attacking or blocking creature. If B was spent to cast Harsh Punishment, that creature's controller loses 2 life and you gain 2. If R was spent to cast Harsh Punishment, Harsh Punishment deals 1 damage to each other creature controlled by that creature's controller.
The Orzhov demands compensation for crime. The Boros incarcerates criminals as a compensation to the innocent.

4cc may be too expensive, but considering the side effects I think it should be fair. Comments?

Come on...Be a man! Make it deal damage equal to the creature's power, and gain life equal to it's toughness like you want it too! And then make it cost 5 Smile

    Quote from Essence
    (B/W) Interest-Bearing Loan
    Sorcery
As long as Interest-Bearing Loan is on the stack, all of your permanents have Extort.
Target player loses one life and you gain one life.

While this technically works, I don't think it works the way you want it too. Since Exhort triggers when the spell is cast, you wouldn't be able to get exhort triggers off this spell. You WOULD, however, be able to get triggers off a spell you cast in response to this, however...Simply having the spell give all your permanents exhort for a turn just seems better, IMO.

    My Card:

    Soul Tiller 3BB
    Creature - Demon
    Trample
Whenever Soul Tiller is blocked, each player sacrifices a creature.
    5/4

Black version of the cycle. Like how his ability can both backfire and be potentially the strongest. Very black. Thoughts?

Unfortunately, having your lands damage you is VERY bad in limited. I personally don't think it's a good idea.

    Seeker's Quest 1U(R/G)
    Instant (U)
Look at the top five cards of your library. If you spent R to cast Seeker's Quest, you may reveal an Instant or Sorcery card from among them and put it into your hand. If you spent G to cast Seeker's Quest, you may reveal a Creature card from among them and put it into your hand. Then put any number of the other cards on top of your library and the rest at the bottom in any order.
Izzet lives for knowldge. Simic uses knowledge to enhance life.

Scry 5 instant, with added bonus. Comments?

Cool. Scry for that much hasn't been done before, so it's hard to gauge the power level of it, but I imagine it's superb on an instant. This is a fine companion to your previous card - though your rites card is sad it isn't an instant.

So, this is likely bonkers, but who cares? It's REALLY fun.

    My card:

    Third in cycle

    Frontier Veteran 1WW
    Creature - Human
    Lifelink
Whenever Veteran Settler becomes blocked, search your library for a plains card and put it into play, tapped. Shuffle your library.
    3/2

While the previous two cards were a little difficult to block due to their size/abilities, this one is easy to block, and more importantly, you REALLY want to block this, thanks to the lifelink. So, to compensate, we give it one (probably) the most powerful effect in the cycle, to compensate for the card only likely seeing one combat.

All that said, this card is stupid good, probably too much so. But if you're going to make an awesome farmer, this is what you would do.

    Thoughts?

Trucekeeper's Strike - Sure. Death Rattle exists, this could too. It would be nice if you could work a corruption theme into the name (Corrupting Gaze? I dunno) to make the nonwhite thing more flavorful, but the card is fine otherwise.

Veilforge Illusionist - Honestly, my problem is that the tokens do not fly. He flies, the illusions should also fly. That would mean making him a 3/3 (Still VERY good), but the card is nice overall.

Wheel of Destiny - Okay, yeah, this is kinda insane. Considering that we haven't even gotten a Howling Mine version of Wheel yet, a Temple Bell version seems a bit much. A card like this:

    Wheel of Destiny 5
    Legendary Artifact
Each player skips their draw phase.
At the beginning of each player's draw step, that player discards their hand and draws 7 cards.

Is still HELLA exciting and new. Yours jumps the shark before it even gets out of the water.

    Mistaken Orders W
    Instant
You assign the combat damage of up to three target creatures this turn instead of their controller(s).

I made it so cheap because it rarely has any applications.

I don't think this works anymore. You need something like changing blocking order, or something.

"You may change the order of all blocking creatures this turn."

This is super niche..Dunno what else to say.

    My Card:

    Wise Troll 2GG
    Creature - Troll Shaman
    Hexproof
Whenever Wise Troll becomes blocked, draw a card.
    4/4

Thought that Threshing Minotaur made for a nice cycle, going with the second card in it. Wanted green to be something strong, came up with this. Blue doesn't need the card draw Smile

"If a source would deal damage to you, you may prevent X of that damage, where X is the number of creatures you control."

Proper wording, as per Battletide Alchemist.

Or, wait. That's not it. The card you have simply doesn't DO anything if you don't have enough creatures. I would change it to something similar to my effect, as it's more intuitive.

Either card is fine, power wise.

Because then it'd have to be uncommon or cost more, and I need a low-cost artifact/enchantment spell for my set.

Well, if you compare it too turn to slag, you can see it's pretty fairly costed. Also, considering that (At least for Auras) your average Terror effect costs the same for the same effect...MAYBE you cost it 1WW, but it's fine at 3.

Destroy target artifact or enchantment. Then if it was attached to a creature, tap that creature.
There are some things that should not be.

Why not just kill the creature? Tapping it feels lame, and isn't even worth a card, if Niveous Wisps is any indication. Killing the creature makes it MUCH more interesting, a kind of reverse Turn to Slag.

    My card:

    Minotaur Thresher 2RR
    Creature - Minotaur Warrior
    Haste
Whenever Minotaur Thresher becomes blocked, defending player sacrifices a land.

  • posted a message on Chandra, why?
Chandra Nalaar is a fine card, and sees play in nearly every cube in existance. The only problem it had was a series of environments hostile to it (First, tons of flash faeries, then bloodbraid elf, then Titans).

Making Chandra cheaper is the wrong direction, IMO. Here's my take.

    Chandra, Catastrophe 4RR
    Planeswalker - Chandra
{-1}: Chandra deals 2 damage to target creature and player.
{-3}: Put a creature from your hand onto the battlefield. It gains haste. Sacrifice it at the end of turn.
{-7}: Chandra deals 4 damage to each creature and player. Each player sacrifices 4 lands.
    {7}

Take Sarkhan the Mad's model, to make a Chandra who is continually raging, not giving any sort of consideration for her longevity. All three of her abilities are exceptionally powerful. If we want a playable Chandra, I believe this is one of the best ways to go about it.

Maybe if the Ogre is 5/3 or 5/4 I suppose it should be fine. Somehow I think 5 toughness is a lot for this chap.

    Next

    Rites of Revival 3B(G/W)
    Sorcery (U)
Return target creature card in your graveyard to the battlefield. If G was spent to cast Rites of Revival, put two +1/+1 counters on that creature. If W was spent to cast Rites of Revival, you gain life equal to that creature's converted mana cost.
To the Golgari, rot leads to life. To the Orzhov, life never rots.

I can't think of a good flavor text for this card, dammit.... I was actually trying to make this a card that's semi-dual guild effect thing. See, both Golg and Orzy loves raising the dead one reason or another, so this card is to show how and why they raise the dead. I'll try to make similar-design cards next time, but what say you?

I swear you review a full two-thirds of all the cards I've ever posted Smile

While I normally dislike mixing hybrid and normal costs in this SPECIFIC case it works, as you have two effects unique to each color. They can even be used together synergystically (If you pay 2GWB for the spell).

Honestly, though, I think the card is a bit too powerful as is. Put it into current standard - can you imagine a bigger kick in the teeth for aggro then a reanimation spell that simultaneously gains 6-9 life? Turn five is fast enough that you can dump a fattie to the graveyard, and then get said fattie back, while at the same time negating any damage that you took that game.

I would personally make this cost 6, which would likely cost it out of constructed. I love the idea of the card, however, and would love to cast this on Lord of Extinction in multiplayer!

    Quote from Arashmin
    Vilheim, the Enactor :symr::symg::symw:
    Legendary Creature - Centaur Shaman
    First Strike
Replace all instances of 'When this enters the battlefield' with 'When you cast this spell' on all non-land permanents and spells. (This applies to cards referring to their own card name in their ability. If this would apply a change to a permanent as it is being cast, apply that change as it enters the battlefield.)
    3/4

I don't really like this. For one thing, I don't even know how it works in certain cases. When you cast Oblivion Ring with this out, how does it work? I'm pretty sure that they are not attached, so it makes Oblivion Ring a Maelstrom Pulse.

Necromancy is worse, and I have no IDEA how the two cards interact. Does Necromancy attach itself to the target from the stack? Who knows? Necromancy is an extremely complicated card, so using it as an example is a bit unfair, but it goes to show how complicated a card like this is.

Honestly, text changing is bar none the most complicated effect in magic, and has only really been used in simple, cut and dry ways, such as Magical Hack. I generally avoid it - Even the card I just posted Arcane Mischief, a fairly simple card, makes for a TON of headaches.

Plus, in the majority of cases this card simply doesn't DO enough to be worth the headache. CIP effects simply get the Eldrazi treatment. Big whoop. They will usually play the same.

I understand that you are trying to hose counterspells, but if that is your goal, simply do it! Replace this abomination of an ability with "This can't be countered. Creatures can't be countered" and you essentially get the same effect.

    My card:

    Cascading Genius 1U
    Sorcery
This turn, if you would draw a card, draw two cards instead.

Pretty simple card, potential for huge upside. Intentionally a sorcery so it doesn't cantrip. Likely cheap enough to be considered in various formats, even though it is TECHNICALLY a two mana do nothing.

How does the timestamping work if you use it on humility to say "enchantments" instead of "creatures"?

Considering this is a completely new effect in magic, I have no idea. That said, as long as the effected permanents are not creatures, the power and toughness modifier does nothing. They would have to print a ruling on it. This isn't a reason not to print the card, however - Humility is ALREADY a huge headache, making it more of one does not matter much.

Would still like someone to comment on the power level of my card.

Serpentine - This is VERY powerful with fatties, and deals a bit too much damage in one shot for me too be comfortable with it. The lands ability is also REALLY strong, though it being a one shot effect balances it SOMEWHAT...On a technical note, the searching ability is the Imprint ability exactly, and should be labeled as such.

    My Card:

    Slow Ogre 1RR
    Creature - Ogre
    Trample
Whenever Slow Ogre attacks, it does not untap during your next untap step.
    5/5

Powerful early beater, despite being "slow". Trample added to make attacking with it feel more relevant. Thoughts?

Since this Song almost will never stop once you have a creature out, maybe a 3cc would be better. True, we have a few good 2cc +2/+2 Aura (Goblin War Paint, for example), but since this can only be stopped with mass removal, this is significantly more powerful.

Well, you can always destroy the enchantment or bounce the creature...and yeah, it IS very strong for an aura - which makes it ok, in my book.

Counter target spell unless that spell's control discards a card at random from their hand.

I didn't like Perplex, and I don't like this. This is a spell that always has a chance of doing nothing - for example, if they have no cards in hand. It just doesn't feel good to cast.

    My card:

    Arcane Mischief U
    Instant (M)
Change the text of target spell or permanent by replacing all instances of one permanent type with another.

More powerful then other cards of this type by a long shot, as it can negate most targeted removal, as well as REALLY futz up a TON of other cards - For example, Pestilence can be changed to only deal damage to lands and players, and only sacrifice itself if there are no lands. Or, you could change Hellkite Tyrant to gain control of creatures. Armageddon? Congrats, you now destroy planeswalkers.

Though this card would likely involve it's own section in the comprehensive rules, and MAY be gamebreaking somehow that I can't perceive, this card should ABSOLUTELY exist in magic.

EDIT: Mythic cause it's crazy, but could be rare.

    What do you think?

Linger is...eugh. Memory intensive, and it doesn't even FEEL good. Yay...my effect is still there for a little bit.

There already are a couple mechanics for Auras to stick around. Two extra power and trample is too similar too Rancor, so I'd cut that bit out entirely and give another toughness to compensate. All we need then is too capture the flavor of the song persisting after death...

    Hence, we get my card:

    Song of Strength 1G
    Enchantment - Aura
    Enchant Creature (U)
    Enchanted Creature gets +2/+2.
When enchanted creature dies, return Song of Strength from the graveyard to the battlefield enchanting a creature you control.
So long as we draw breath, the Song will never end ~ Elf/Druid/Dryad Legend

Boosted to uncommon as this seems REALLY good in limited. Hope you like it.

    (Edit: Ninja'd)

Unlife Nephilim: Well, The first ability is anti-green ISH. Honestly, this is a nice try at a nephalim design, but nobody would bother using it for the first ability unless fixing was INSANE, they'd only use it for the (bonkers) second ability. You might be better off with a red ability and a white ability, separately, but no simple tap ability. Also, this needs power and toughness, though I assume it's a 2/2.
