So there is quite a spirited discussion going on in the Magic General subsection over the rules of when a player can leave a draft, what cards they can take, when ownership begins and what procedures should be followed to keep the draft going.
Do any of the judges here and/or those knowledgeable of these situations want to weigh in on this? Are there official rules for this situation? Is there new information judges are using?
To those confused, I am referring to when a player opens a pack and something like a Foil Tarmogoyf and a Regular Tarmogoyf are in it. Can they just drop and take the pack? What are the options.
Sorry if I am in error for posting this here, I just wanted to know what the more rules savvy portion of the forums thinks about it.
(Please no flames, my intention is to understand, not to cause problems)
I was going to write a really long thought out response but... blah.. it won't matter.
Bad cards must exist to have good cards. You cannot narrow the scale to where every card is fairly decent, it cannot be done. There must be junk, there must be filler and there must be super awesome rare cards that people buy lots of packs to get.
That's just how it is. There will always be 80% of stuff that no one plays in constructed in almost every set. It has to be this way and it works.
How about something like: 1BB Curse of Loneliness
Enchantment - Aura Curse
Enchant player
When Curse of Loneliness enters the battlefield destroy all planeswalkers controlled by enchanted player.
Enchanted player cannot play planeswalker spells.
But.. it seems no-one is interested in an aura. I think black needs some more ways to stop planeswalkers from interfering in it's business though.
If you wanna use Gideon, Champion of Justice effectively you must either eliminate their hand and board, then drop him for a few turns of unanswered beatings, find a way to make him evasive every turn or find a way to lock down their board until he can get an insane number of counters on him.
Sphere of Safety is Gideon's best friend in my U/W deck because it slows their attack, doesn't kill their creatures and allows him to get a ridiculous number of counters while you essentially just protect him and hold a Terminus in your hand for when he gets big enough to kill them so you can wipe, activate, counter their inevitable removal and win in one swipe.
As for as R/W is concerned... hmm... I think you might be better off without him unless you can figure out a way to keep him from getting offed real quick-like. Might be better off with just a few more points of burn.
Doh, sorry guys. Totally forgot to check the gatherer entry. I was just thinking about this while I was outside with my friends and posted it as I came in.
If I control a Sphere of Safety (let's say this is the only enchantment I control) and then I play a Furor of the Bitten on an opponents creature.
Assuming that, when my opponents pre-combat step arrives and he must choose to pay the Sphere of Safety's tax or not, does he have to pay for the creature enchanted by Furor of the Bitten before he can pay and attack with another creature? Or can he just pay for another creature and not attack with the enchanted creature because he didn't pay the tax?
People are over sensitive about a lot of issues it seems. I don't care if people talk about their picks. *shrug*
I go to FNM to have fun. If someone there isn't having fun, well, there is the door. Perhaps bowling is more your thing. Or reading.. or sitting at home harping on forums about how much meaningless things mean to you and how it ruins your life.
Either way, I think I am going to announce random cards that are not in my packs for the foreseeable future. That way, I gave away no information, I am merely spouting off card names just to upset people.
Hmm... I am having a hard time thinking about when I was at our LGS and someone wasn't yelled at.. children insulted to tears... the screaming out of pairings and/or shut up.... people talked about behind their back and/or loud cussing/terrible t-shirt messages.
I just sorta thought that is why I liked the place so much.
I'm not sure what this nonsense about steeds, nectar, or righteousness has to do with anything. I could care less what "some" do with their time or cards, especially if I never trade with them, or they're not new players at my lgs.
Are you under the impression I'm trying to tell others how they should approach trading? You seem rather defensive despite my post having absolutely nothing to do with you.
I just picked your post out because it seemed like you were one of the "doing right is always better than anything else!" sorta guys, who ride white steeds and wear shiny armor, never speak ill of the dead, don't spit in front of women and actually believe there is a thing such as right and wrong.
Which, in my opinion, is complete BS. By not trading with that kid, the only person you served was yourself.
I actually found it quite selfish to deny a trade he wanted to do because of your own self-righteousness and no other factors.
That's just me though. I wasn't really calling you out personally.

That's pretty much it.

Yes? Shouldn't you?
