I would recommend Slave of Bolas whether you're aggro or control. Smack your opp. with their own creature, then it dies Terminate is a pretty good removal spell. For aggro, (you're kinda in aggro colors) Rakdos Cackler and Shambling remains. There's also vampires.
Oh absolutely! I play mostly budget modern. All the cards in my deck are modern legal, and my decks all have about a 40$ budget, and control is my favorite archetype. Here are some great cards vs discard strategies that don't require you to play clunky cards like Leyline of Sanctity.
Obstinate Baloth and Loxodon Smiter both get put directly onto the battlefield instead of being discarded. I'm testing baloth in bant control.
Flashback cards like Think Twice and Desperate Ravings let you get back some of the cards you have lost, though your most powerful flashback card here would be Unburial Rites. My esper control deck is built around an Unburial Rites/Rune-Scarred Demon engine.
Redirect spells like Redirect and swerve may let you use your opponent's discard against them depending on what they are playing.
Cards with unearth: I think Sedraxis Specter is the best here(its a four-of in my grixis control deck), although Shambling Remains, Hell's Thunder, and Hellspark Elemental are also good for damage too if you're an agressive/midrange type person. True Believer might be more reliable than Leyline, and can attack. Squadron Hawk can fill your hand with cards to discard, idk.
PLAYSTYLE: One extremely easy way to beat discard is to have no cards in hand. If none of these work for you, you may just have to play super fast aggro decks for a while.
Basically ramping wolf run ramp style, except budget. I'm definitely considering 3 Kessig wolf run. I first considered steel helkite as the other 4of, but i don't like that he's an artifact. I might try Jund colors, right now the deck is naya, Geth, Lord of the Vault is 6 mana, theres also broodmate dragon, which would be awesome with wolf runs. Also thinking about harvester of souls...
So i have a RGw Ramp deck, the format is casual budget modern, so my deck plays 4 flameblast dragon. I need a CMC 6 card that is budget to replace the arachnus spinners in the deck. I figure there has to be something better than arachnus spinner out there, not that he's bad, but flameblast i think is better even though arachnus is better in the scenario where they get killed immidiately, but i still dont think its worth running 2-4 arachnus webs in your deck. I've considered rampaging baloths, but to me it seems to vanilla. I also already have sunblast angels in mind also. good-but more of a control card, this deck is trying to aggro.
So in summary:
1. Mana cost 6
2 Red green or white
3 Budget
THX
Sweet i did find a playset for 10$ on ebay, i thought they were twice that. TY
Also if you have any other recommendations for this deck that turns all its oppponents lands into islands, (new definition for land flood) feel free to post them.
So I want to replicate this deck that jerry thopmson made but i want to replace the ajani vengeants with something more budget. The deck basically turns all the opponents' lands into islands. (this is back when jund was popular). So i need a budget card that keeps lands tapped, similar to ajani venjeants' +1 ability.
Limited is a very good format a lot of the time. I'd definitely say go with limited, just remember nothing is perfect. I definitely love making 40 card decks at fnm's its just so awesome, but other than that i would say get cockatrice for your computer, you can play any format you want for free. but obviously if you want to play competitive magic in real life that wouldn't be the solution for you.
just my $.02
Well if theres a computer that can do it right now its that google computer that was on jeopardy. I believe that computers CAN be taught how to play magic. We will always be making better computers, and although it may not be that feasible right now, I would imagine it would be in the future.
First of all you guys, i did not read all your posts as some of them were pretty long so if i appear ignorant to something that was already said, that is why.
This is what i think:
As a Marine, I absoloutly support Ron Paul for president. I absoloutly support his noninterventionalist foreign policy, his conservative fiscal policies, and his liberal social policies. I do not support these wars, I do not support the fed reserve system, and i do not support the idea that we should trade liberty for security.
I am a Lance Corporal in the Marines, or an E3.
Ron paul is indeed doing very well, he's in second place for the number of delagates. He's the one with the biggest grassroots support. But i dont think Ron Paul is going to be able to win any promaries UNLESS people start counting their ballots at the caucus locations and making sure theyre reported correctly.
What i find is that usually adding a buget restriction is more practical. Because i assume youre makin a format to play with people you know, instead of playing with rarities, i would come to an agreement on a buget limit for the people you play with. For example my friends and i play 20$ modern. It works because it is something we have agreed upon. If you dont like buget, y not just proxy an entire deck for a format youve all agreed upon?
Just some thoughts...
I have made this list before and i was kind of dissapointed by it because of all the etb tapped effects of the lands. So it was a whole turn slower, less explosive, etc. Dies to pyroclasm and similar effects. So thats my criticism. Similar to this deck is zoo. My list plays spellbreaker behemoth and wooly thoctar, etc. it used to play matca rioters, but i didnt really like that kind of list.
