"Somebody with decision power in WotC is playing competitive EDH
You are aware that EDH essentially started as a judge format, and that Sheldon Menry, long considered the top of the judge program, is virtually it's father?
Night time at PT's and such is usually spend playing retarded complex EDH. I like seeing cards like this, with SWEET art.
Crap. Running out of 1-2 of the pre-cons was bad enough ("No, we can't open a new box until we sell out of some of the other ones...") But this is just going to be stupid. They had for damn sure better balance out the power (and perceived power/flavor) or it's just going to be a big fail for the % of people who are SOL and don't get the side of their preference.
Every time I see a post like this, I remember all the times I have warned players to keep track of their belongings.
As a judge, I hate to see players lose stuff. But I have to remind everyone that TO's and Judges are not responsible for looking out for your stuff. PLEASE do not bring more stuff than you can keep track of. It's worth getting a room close by to keep the things you aren't going to use immediately. And if you see someone acting suspicious, let a judge or a to know.
Beating sludge is doable, just hard. Focus on setting up an uncracked Khalni or two With at least one Valakut in play. They sludge and play everything you have and hope that you bounce back quicker. Its not pretty but the matchup seems to be about 66% in vamps favour. My biggest problem isn't sludge its Ultraman(evil superman that kills) and bloodghast.
I could deal with them if I wasn't sludged. Whatever the cause, it's a strong deck, and I would have a hard time only giving it 66%.
The manabase looks funny because the fetch types don't matter, and I've been playing with some weird sb options. You could streamline them if you like.
Spire main is AMAZING. It just goes the distance when you run out of gas. The few games I beat vamps its usually with double spire for 7+ ea.
Cobra traps are side for anything that sides in LD. It gives Ruinblasters and Moss Monsters a headache, and if you follow up with a bushwhacker, it's GG a lot of the time.
I took out gladehearts because they just weren't cutting it against Vampires - they were too slow. This is slightly aggro-ier, as thats the only way I've had any success beating them.
Always open to thoughts and ideas. Between Hexmages now, Mind sludge, and just that stupid damn nighthawk, I can't even fight vampires most of the time. I've even looked at blazing torch on the geopedes - when it works, its cute, but it doesn't seem effective...
I don't believe (at least right now) that Carter's leaving has any negative connotations. He said in his goodbye that he feels strongly that the DCI has become a family in the last year, and it is very possible that he is stepping down for personal reasons (although I hope all is well for John, he's a great guy.)
Although, we are Magic players - the rumors will continue for a while.
You totally took the right approach. One of the things that ALOT of guys dont realize is that a women has to be interested in going out before you ask them, or you are 99% likely to get nowhere.
Congrats, and move on - there are PLENTY of hot smart women to ask out, and lots of them will say yes!
They won't use the Judge promo art for Alara Reborn -- it would absolutely kill the prices for the current Judge Promo's and take away their unique value.
Incidentally, I'm buying the Judge promo's because I can't stand the PS art. Didn't then, don't now, and I doubt the new art will top the Judge promo
Man, If they use the Judge Art - crap. I think I would rather they didn't reprint them.
1. The more you think about it, the more emotionally invested you will become in the outcome. You need to take a step back, clear your head, and try talking to her without ANY expectations. Assume she is a virgin, doesn't want to have sex till after marriage, and doesn't want to "serious date" right now, and anything beyond that will be a bonus.
When you build up things like this in your head, you color your expectations and feel TERRIBLE.
2. You need to just talk to her. Don't think of a line, don't try to come on, just say "Hi." Preferably more than that, but you need to keep it simple so you can gauge her reaction.
3. Most women do not like to be asked out. Most women do like a good conversation with someone friendly. The trick is to turn part 2 into part 1 without breaking flow. It will usually be as simple as "Hey, we share this class, I think you are pretty cool, would you like to do something sometime? Lunch?" Avoid traditional date idioms for the first time - lunch is better than dinner, plan for something short (15-20 mins) so if either of you isn't hitting it off you can depart on good terms, and avoid over preparing. At the same time, you need to do something outside of your routine enough that it stands out in her head if you ever want to do something again. Working together on something (school project, studying) is not a great idea - you will develop a friend rapport, and that is POISONOUS to dating. Dress like you normally do.
4. You need to plan on her saying no. Odds are you will never have a date with this person - that's the mentality you need to have on your side. It is unfortunately a numbers game, and there are things you can do to sway your favor - but if you ask, and she says no, you need to be prepared to walk away and chalk it up.
5. You need to stand out. You are a unique individual, and if you are going to be successful, something about you has to stand out to snag her.
6. The end run rarely works. Her friends are not a good way to get to know her - it's a rookie mistake, and they will warn her unless you are a 10. You want as little to do with her social life initially as possible.
As for the specifics - end of class will always be better than the beginning, let her pick up her things and start walking before you start talking, and the ONLY appropriate physical contact is a polite tap on her shoulder if she doesn't notice you at first - but confidence goes a long way, and speaking with it will go even further.
The sooner you accept the "game" the more confidence you'll have because you can start to play by the rules. You don't want to be shallow, and you shouldn't make yourself out to be anything other than you are. It never ceases to amaze me how many gamers don't get or don't want to play. The trick is to break out of your traditional mold.
ADDED BONUS: Try something COMPLETELY out of your comfort zone. New haircut, new clothes, something that breaks you out of your rut. It's not forging your image, but you will be more capable of acting outside your normal pattern if you do something to psyche yourself out.
Other than just selling cards to pay for expenses, the number one thing judges do for fun is...
EDH.
A foil fetch-land cycle for judges makes it MUCH easier to pimp out EDH decks.
I am a little disappointed they didn't commission new art - I LOVE my alt art promo's, especially when I can get the artists do do something special to them - but I will wait to see what else they come out with this year. Remember - 2 a PT. That means, Fetch and a Dual at every PT for the year? interesting......
Draws should not be worth 0 points - it unfairly punishes the legitimate draws.
As for the OP, couldn't be more excited. No more snorefest in the last 2 rounds at the top tables!!!!

I don't think it's possible to beat a sludge. I've tried gassing early, and even god draws are still coming up short.
I think I may just accept that I lost to vamps. Every... single... time...
Although, we are Magic players - the rumors will continue for a while.

It is a BEA-U-TIFUL program.

*Has Horded 4 judge Promos from GP's*

To be fair, that is a DFC. Pretty much worthless in terms of real useful advice outside of small tourny's and kitchen tables.
Trying to enumerate the distinction between different flavors of the same deck is likely to cause even more confusion.
