Minamo is in there because it's part of how I triple Mindslaver lock as well as other utility like being able to untap a Phyrexian Tower if someone forced me to tap it. Also I play the card in modern so I can't sell it and even if i could that wouldn't cover an intuition. Anyway, like you said, lack of fetchlands is a good reason not to run valakut and, like i said, I think I have enough win conditions at the moment to justify not running it. Maybe there's something about Valakut that I'm missing but im not so sure.
I've got a soft spot for the underdogs. That being said I've played plenty of mono-red, mono-white, and boros over the years. If your playing competitively or in a tournament, it's just not great. Playing for fun, however, it is excellent. I'd say the most fun I've had is playing Brion Stoutarm with all sorts of shenanigans, and a giant tribal build which was well represented in the boros precon not too long ago.
More specifically the Lake Worth/River Oaks area, but anywhere near is fine. I'm really into commander and board games if anyone wants another player. PM me and we'll see if perhaps I'm a good fit for a group, or to help start one.
I will be moving to Richardson, TX this summer. What are some good shops to look up for playtesting and events? I mostly play standard and limited, but I have a modern and edh deck as well. Looking for good competition.
Madness Games is amazing, they have everything I'm into. Comics, cards, board games, rpgs, and anything in between. It's like a Walmart of gaming stores, it's huge.
Sorry for taking so long to respond, I never got a notification someone posted. I knew my chances were slim posting about Forney of all places. Are there players around? I'd really like to find some people to game with. If your friend is wanting some fresh blood around PM me and I'll give you my info for him.
They might have meant academy ruins
