Can I post a list here for feedback, despite not wanting or planning on getting Tarmy and Confident? I go the Wilt-leaf/Siege Rhino/Doran/Sorin, Solemn Visitor route- but I also dont use Thoughtsieze style hand disruption...if this is not up to par for posting in this forum that is ok!
With the "new" legend rule, when a legend gets put into the graveyard as a result of playing a second one with the same name, does that count as dying?
I went to my first modern event tonight and lost in the final match, overall 3-1
But my deck performed admirably, and since getting home I have begun tweaking it. The
main goal is to play Rhinos, then copy more Rhinos with Metamorphs. Or just beat down
with huge creatures.
I threw the sideboard together at the last moment, but the transformational sideboard of dropping
the WB Liege theme for the WG Liege theme game two was a perfect change up that won almost
every time. I never once put Anafenz or G-ruk or Sundering Growth into my main (though I stand by
Sundering Growth in this deck). I went 3-1 only losing to a Whit Weenies deck running protection vs
abzan colors - Mirran Crusader, Soldier of the Pantheon.... Even still, I almost was able to beat him.
I think the deck could really be nice with a little fine tuning. So Ive been messing around, and I think
this is what I will bring to the table next time:
In the final match, had I had Path to Exile I probably could have won. I loved the synergy with Deathbringer, unmake and Utter End, but was finding the 4cmc curve of Liege Rhino to be really nice. I think Rhys and Voice are a nice couple additions that lower the curve just a bit more, and maybe get me a little more versatility. What do you all think?
PS: Doran is amazing. I love my 1 damage BOP, my 4 damage Courser, my 5 trample Rhinos...even Caryatid defending for 3 is good.
Please help me with one of my first modern decks! I have three I will be deciding between, this is the "fun" one I am focused on the Murkfiend Liege/Master Biomancer pairing to make my creatures huge, draw more with Zegana and play them quickly. Kind of envision Infiltrator and Icewing Aven to be my main aggro. I have the Caryatid/BOP combo in there because I originally wanted to play Savage Knuckleblades. These are cards I own and just threw together, cant get any Tarmys. I should probably have Mana Leaks in here huh? Invisible Stalker? Thanks for whatever thoughts you can give me. Its possible this is too slow, but I like the idea of it. This list on paper is my rough draft
I personally really like Jeskai Barricade but I can't see many other good reasons to run white.
It seems a shame not to run Twerk Off (Grim Contest) in a toughness deck, but 3 mana for conditional removal seems underwhelming.
Another card no one's seems to have mentioned is Kin-tree Invocation. 2 mana to copy your biggest threat, without needing to rely on Assault Formation seems good to me. Even better if you played a toughness-boosting card like Triton Tactics that turn.
My version is creature combo, with no non-permanent spells, and a 23 land count. Im able to quickly draw into the pieces I need and combo off on turns 4-6. I think that like you said, revelation could really be decent, i see the merit in your argument for it. Its just as I said, boiled down, the fewer spells the better- from a consistency standpoint. I NEED my genny to give me two creatures, and hopefully draw 1-2+ cards. If it comes down as a 6/6 and i get nothing, im in trouble. I agree that this deck has many styles of play and lists, and that each plays out differently. But in mine I just cant do it- sb maybe though
This deck simply cannot afford to hit a non-permanent spell on a Genny Hydra... That is my only vote against Revelation. Between Ascendancy and Eidolon of blossoms, no card slot is needed for revelation- also imo. I will be trying out Assault Formation though, because it triggers eidolon while making all of my important mana dork good threats. The only thing I dislike about it is that it turns my x4 Boon Satyrs into 2/2s...So I will only try running 2 of AF as an alternate wincon to Nylea at first (really though, once you combo off it doesnt matter if its a 4/2 or a 2/2). Having 4 Satyrs is great because they draw a card from both Eidolon and Ascendancy. Every time Ive played a non-permanent spell in the deck its been a dead hit on Hydra, which in turn makes me cry
Perhaps a 1of, or a 4of like you have it, just to ensure you get it- but the dead card thing again- hurts..
Shaman is interesting for sure, but doesnt really fit the need of either untapping Nykthos, or adding 7 green itself. It's Formidable is OK, but once again, fit into this deck, doesnt really do anything to help win.. ya ken? As for profaner, I am in the school that thinks that anything you cannot draw into and play during the combo shouldnt be played. IE anything NOT green lol. Shaman of the Great Hunt is the exception, (and is a better replacement for card draw methinks than Revelation- in this deck).
[EDIT] I just saw that it is a combo to win. While I must say it is cool and I think a deck should be built around it with Aetherspouts, I still dont think the combo fits in BattleCat Combo
For those using Whisperwood Elemental, I was wondering briefly about Den Protector. It seems good to be able to return the combo piece we need- but not sure there is a spot in the list.
Thanks for the responses! I kinda agree with you Lunch, but also was thinking more red devotion with nykthos for Secure the Wastes. In any case, i have more than a few other rogue lists i want to try before this one. Thanks all
