Selfless Squire seems interesting vs Eldrazi or Lands - absorb a huge attack and crack back. 4cmc is rough, ofc, but it's recruitable.

Sorry - this didn't trigger a notification for me.

The thought is that non-basic lands have the potential to be a liability - especially when we're going up to more 3 drops or double W cost spells. And sometimes it being legendary inflames that further.

Also, the decks that we used to justify 3-4 Karakas back in the day are on a low (Sneak Show), have become a better matchup (Lands) or are using other targets other than legendary creatures (Reanimator).

I personally like 3, given Thalia tricks and what not, but I can see the merits in shaving 1.

I'm looking at one of these builds:

V1 hedges *very* strongly against Miracles and Lands, and likely has about 1 too many cards for the Lands matchup. V1 takes its inspiration from that mtgo decklist, but I've made adjustments for the new cards that aren't available yet.

V2 opts for a very safe manabase and a more traditional suite of sideboard cards; V2 is a little better against Shardless and Eldrazi. Since I'm playing 7 WW cards in the main, I dropped the Caverns that I'd normally be running with a THC build.

The creature shell is exactly what I'm going to try at the moment. I'm much closer to v2 on SB, but my lands aren't as set at the moment. Currently have 2 Caverns and 3 Karakas, mainly because I haven't fully evaluated it yet. Really like the idea of having a surplus of basics, though.

Yeah, I have been considering moving back up to 3 Avenger.

Silly-ish question... when is CN2 legal? I'm going to Indy this weekend and trying to figure out if I need to get $200 worth of cards to play in side events XD

    It's legal today.

Why can't we be happy with both EMA and Conspiracy...?

EMA had sweet reprints. This has a sweet reprint and awesome new cards. Win, win.

    @various newcomers

Welcome to the discussion! I'm glad to have you all around.

Here are my thoughts on Sanctum Prelate:
    http://www.thrabenuniversity.com/?p=486

Liked the articles you've been putting out.

On Prelate specifically: one thing to add is that it functions differently from a rules perspective than Chalice of the Void. Because it is a static effect rather than a trigger, your opponent can't spot check you by playing spells of the CMC without getting a Game Rules Violation. It is also more forgiving if you forget to enforce it, but notice within a reasonable amount of time. It basically softens the "gotcha" elements through better wording.

So are we moving up to 4 Caverns because of all of these humans??

Joking to a degree, but 2-3 might not be bad.

The point of the product is similar to the variant issues that comic companies produce: to give a kick back to the LGS by providing a product with a larger margin. Same with the Holiday cards (for the stores that get those). The problem is that it makes the store look bad and people whine when the product has an increased price. The store can forego the market price to sell the product at retail to build customer loyalty, but I bet that's a hard swallow for the stores that are just scraping by.

Some local examples for me for Lephisto:

    - The store that's 2 hours away from me and, while near a city, they are isolated enough that most local players only have the one option. They hold a tournament to split a FTV and the rest sit on the shelf at market value to be sold for the markup at some eventual time.

    - The store that's 30 minutes from me basically has a lottery. They get your information and then charge your card for retail if you're selected.

    - The store that's the "greedier" store in the area. They sell board games at retail, their events are all a little more expensive, and mtg singles at something like 10% above TCG mid. They get away with it because they have a great location, and they raised the prices over time after gaining intensely loyal players when they were a smaller store. They have a sign up sheet and the price is determined by the market at the time.

    - The store that is closest to me. They make most of their sales online, but have been growing the brick and mortar over time. All of the owners have their own careers and literally only opened the shop so that they'd have somewhere to play. They give out double prize support at prereleases (half given on release) and grind out more IQs than the other stores. They have a list that anyone can hop on (and they're super responsive to text and facebook so when things are announced it's easy to be added) and sell all of theirs for retail on preorder. Once the product is released the extras get marked up.

I have it preordered for retail so Dark Depths, token, Jitte, and Tolaria West aren't too shabby.

But this product really does feel like they didn't put forth a lot of effort with it. Some pretty wtf cards with fairly weak story line blurbs.

Is winter orb now a sideboard option? Together with THC it shut down miracles and rg lands.

Was thinking the same with Crackdown...

So in the example given, lets say it is just down to us (2 players, HIM vs ME) and it is his turn. His Sheoldred trigger goes on the stack, then I choose my Braids Trigger, he receives priority and passes back since he has no additional triggers to add and then I add my Sheoldred trigger leaving the stack looking like this:

No - you put all your triggers on the stack, then he puts all of his triggers on the stack.
    His will resolve first.

Examples (top of stack resolves first)
    --Top--
    1: Sheoldred 2
    2: Sheoldred 1
    3: Braids 1
    --Bottom--

    --Top--
    1: Sheoldred 2
    2: Braids 2
    3: Sheoldred 1
    4: Braids 1
    --Bottom--

edit: In addition, there's no priority passing while triggers are going on the stack. You can (and do) pass priority to get triggers to resolve, but all triggers are added to the stack before anyone has priority.

In OP's scenario it is HIM's turn so all of his triggers would go on the stack first and then OP's. Everything else is correct.

4 mana legendary Baneslayer Angel for 24 land taxes? I really like it. First strike lifelinker is good enough against Delver and Shardless BUG (no more Strix troll) that I can see myself getting more than 2 Cavern of Souls in my list. She'd be perfect had she been 3/4 instead of 4/3 but that would make her Modern playable and my wallet can't handle it.

The art is also amazeballs. Bad thing she's gonna cost $25 each because half of Standard's tier 1 decks are gonna jam 3 of her.

Yeah, I like her as a potential haymaker with Karakas interaction. Can see her in Miracles, as well (for the lists that randomly played Baneslayer).

She's also a horror for Thing in the Ice, if that's a thing (Legacy or Modern). And she'll be impossible to reprint if she does take hold as a playable.

Sideboard validates everyone on the Path to Exile path, but the real shockers are 1 of RoP and 2 Gideon! This puts Gideon in the sideboard spotlight for two Top 8 DnT decks.

It's been a while since we've seen him, but he tends to run a 1 of Relic. Gideon is super interesting and makes sense. Makes me a little sad I offloaded the foil one I had... :p

Also, thanks for mentioning Warping Wail. I was in the early stages of working out why to play banisher priest and you helped me get there faster.
