I'm upset seeing kcw winning because it seems he just asked the gutter to vote for him...
If he keeps entering it looks like all weekly contests will turn out the same.
This sort of thing should be brought up in the suggestions thread. And yes, I am aware of the problem and some of the potential results. I believe I have found a remedy for the future, however, it would appear kingcobweb will win this week's contest.
I'm confused as to why you entered. You probably knew the gutter would vote for you and ruin the chances for everyone else that actually put in effort. It's a kick in the gut for me, because I thought it would be a close contest of a few entries.

Charlie, please do not become too upset. kingcobweb has as much right as anyone to enter, for whatever reasons he sees fit. I can vouch for him that he did not ask the gutter to vote for him. It did find its way there but such is the way things work. I have attempted to find a way to disqualify him but the only way to do so would be very arbitary. In addition, looking at the poll results shows that it is unlikely that we will be supported by the staff in regards to not allowing advertising. Therefore, I am at a lose as to how to combat this problem. Doing nothing and doing something both pose risks to the contest.
I have to agree with Charlie. The fact that Kingkobweb's entry is winning is a slap in the face to anyone who put any realy effort into their entry.
Edit: In response to a simple facade, if it is a popularity contest, why don't we just stop making entries all together and just enter our names in each week and see who's the most liked?

You realize he uses Photoshop too, right?

Craven - A very effective use of partial transparency.
Lord Tirian - Partial transparency again, and cool concept for links.
I do not really understand what kingcobweb's entry has to do with Nex3; it has wtf'ery for sure, and it was slighty amusing, but I'm not sure what it had to do with this week's contest. He obviously didn't get my vote for those reasons, but I do not think we can criticize his approach to the contest.

Come to think of it, my better weeks in this contest are those where I infuse a little humor into my sigs. I think some people may get worn out on really well done visually appealing entries and go for the ones that make them chuckle or have a neat twist; style usually wins out over substance with the public.
@ASF: You realize you're not supposed to vote for yourself....
@kcw issue: ive gotten over my previous issue with him. But may I point out NO regular avatar or banner creator voted for KCW (cept for his fellow shopmate). I can understand the reb vote, but those with good taste show it

The thing is, its not a joking topic. It's a serious farewell topic. In any other case... I really wouldn't mind. See CD's week 29 winning banner. It won.
* A new contest and a poll for the old contest is posted every Monday (give or take a few due to timezones).
* You may not vote for your own entry.
* You may not post just to list the people you voted for; you must provide some additional content, such as your reasoning for voting as such.
I almost broke it one in like week 48, then I went over the rules to make sure. Glad i did.
Edit: Sarnath'd ftl.
Edit Edit: I love how a ton of people only voted once. There are three votes ya know.
I don't see how what program he uses has to do with what his ourcome was. Just because he used photoshop doesn't mean he automatically put more time and effort into it.

Well as I do believe, the poll is concerning which banner the reader thinks is best - not which one required the most effort.
I, for one, spent maybe 15-20 minutes on mine, tops.

Do you honestly believe though that everyone voting for kingcobweb felt kingcobweb's banner and avatar were the best? You spent fifteen minutes thinking about votes. This is commendable. Sadly, some do not even look at all the entries.

Not denying that one bit.
It's just that we cannot force anyone to vote for which they think is best... and beyond that, which banner they think required the most work is not even the criterion for this poll.

no actually, my thought process was long the lines of "oh, avatar and sig shops has a subforum? Huh! A weekly contest? Nex3? I have a funny idea! I shall post it!" not some elaborate plan.

it was based on my reaction upon hearing the sad news of Nex3's tragic departure.

Obviously some people's vote is superior to other people's!

I did use Photoshop and I wanted a cartoonish style to contrast with the others in the thread and because it fit the subject matter better. Also I can't draw worth crap, and I spent around 10 minutes on it because I can't draw worth crap.
While KCW isn't at fault, since he didn't request that the gutter members vote for him, this has effectivley ruined the contest.
While it may only be my personal judgement that KCW's entry shouldn't even be taken seriously, others may actually find it amusing and as such, vote for it. Unfortunately, the evidence doesn't support this.
Tough choices for me..... Im gonna have to think hard about this one.
Winner of Weekly Contest 46!
Spiral : Good use of brushes.
Yusuke: Darn good banner.
ForD - I enjoyed your very subtle approach. The crystallized border is a neat effect as well.
There were many strong entries this week - I spent about 15 minutes deciding what my votes were going to be. Bravo to everyone!

If you don't expect the popular kid to win, you just weren't thinking it through.

Unless something changed after Week 30 or so to make this a rule...
Edit: Apparently something did change after Week 30 or so to make that a rule. Pretty silly if you ask me, but whatever. Disregard my self-vote then.

The thing is they don't care. As you pointed out they are not regulars and I am sure few of them looked at all the entries.
And yes, self-voting is a no-no. Everyone used to do it and really it just meant that those who showed restraint had a larger chance of losing.

yes
Where do I request my own sub-forum full of voters at???
Currently, 17 of the 18 voters who voted for KCW are members of the gutter.
The one who isn't a member of the gutter is Sneakyhomonculus, who has access to the gutter anyway.
Coincidence? Nope.
Why not? Cuz Gandhi was nice enough to post the following in a gutter thread titled "KCW needs YOUR vote".
While KCW isn't at fault, since he didn't request that the gutter members vote for him, this has effectivley ruined the contest.
