Anyone else in the beta? What do you think of blizzard's new MOBA game?
I've never played a moba before this game and so far, I'm enjoying the game very much. I like the emphasis on teamwork and objectives and also being that I'm an old fan of blizzard games, it's nice to see them in a MOBA. Anyway, if anyone is in the beta, I wouldn't mind having some friends to play with, instead of doing pubs all the time
I played it in alpha. Considering going back now that they've released a beta product. I didn't like how they handled money gain all that much, it feels like a very team oriented game, to the point where I think the ideal playing experience is always you and 4 friends. It's fun though.
Well, the various maps are what sell it for me. The lack of items can be a bit off-putting for someone who used to play LoL, but at least the talent tree makes up for it (as in, rather than buy items according to what's happening in the game, you instead choose different talents depending on the situation).
I do agree that it's a very team-oriented game. Most of the time, it's always a good idea to rush as a team into the secondary objectives (the desert map is especially bad about this), and going off-lane seems to be the best way to win matches (especially in the desert map and the pirate bay, from what I can tell).
I generally prefer heroes who don't run out of mana easily and durable, as well as any hero with AoE skills. Thus far my favorites are Zagara, Nazebo, Tychus and Malfurion.
On the other hand, I can never be quite sure why I ever want to play Reghar.... too support-y for my taste.
EDIT:
New patch just came in, bringing in a new map and what I think is the most broken hero so far, Sylvanas. Seriously, she easily stuns mercenaries and turrets it's not funny...
Can't say she's "broken" (I mean, come on she's been out 24 hours) yet. She's a new Nazeebo/Zagara ie. Specialist who is really an Assassin. That said, she is an absolute blast to play.
I've been playing everyone for the most part now (except sonya, i hate playing soyna) and been climbing the ranks in hero league. I don't think sylvanas is OP. She's pretty good but not OP.
Her damage output even with an assassin build is respectable, but nothing spectacular. Her lane pushing is very meh and works better when she is with the team. She is very squishy and her escape is actually pretty slow.
I play her more as an assassin. I have seen a lot of teams experimenting with a malf+sylvanas comp to get double silence.
So far my teammates and I haven't lost to that composition yet but I think as more teams get better at using it, it will be more effective. There is definitely a lot of potential there.
HotS and FFXIV are my two go to games most nights. I feel like (as in most MOBAs) any release character is going to be a bit too strong for the first two weeks or so before they start to get balanced out. I find there are very few characters I want to play repeatedly and rarely play anyone for more than 2-3 matches in a row,the one exception was Stitches since I got him to 10 in Alpha and have the Master skin, yet now I am more or less tired of him. The fact that most of the characters are very pick up and play friendly is one of the greatest boons this game has imo.

I will always firmly stand by the belief that Magic is a game first and a collectable second.
I was actually surprised by how much I liked this game. In my opinion, it's a good version of LoL: a dota-clone which understands that it's casual and embraces it.
As for favourite heroes:
- Abathur (although most of my friends hate me when I pick this)
- Zagara (She's probably a bit too good right now)
- That WC3 Nerubian warrior which name I cannot remember right now
And I like to pick Nova as well when I'm in a bad mood. Triple tapping supports is just too cathartic not to do once in a while.

My brother and I play this almost every night now. He's been playing since alpha, and i abhore what moba's became after DOTA (the WC3 map) became all cuthroat and complex. I love HOTS because i don't want to commit an hour a single map, and it that way it reminds me a lot of CS.
Arcadic#1480 is my battle tag. Feel free to add and friend, cause this game is more fun with people you know/trust than most.
Okay, I take back my bashing on Sylvanas, although I have yet to play her. She is a turret killer, sure, but otherwise, she looks rather bleh for most other purpose.... still, being able to free-smack mercenaries isn't a measly advantage nevertheless.
So, there's one hero I've come to hate seeing in a match. And no, it's not Abathur or Murky. It's ******* Illidan. Every goddamn ******** playing this guy somehow jumps into every fight, even ones we're obviously losing, does no damage whatsoever and when I call them out on it, they become really whiny and defensive about how it isn't their fault and how they are totally contributing.
Also: **** the HotS subreddit. I go to that hellhole from time to time because the devs of some games I like use that place for feedback. However, the HotS subreddit is apparently a circlejerk of epic proportions, where they downvote opinions they disagree with. I'm now not allowed to make more than one post per ten minutes because I talked about talentgating and 'funny' skins.

Well a bad illidan is going to die a lot and feed. But a good illidan will absolutely destroy the enemy team. Especially if he has a healer babysit him and combos with abathur. Comps that are built around him are really strong. My team actually has an illidan player with almost 500 games played on him and we have 1v4 with illi/abby combo before.
The key is knowing when and who to dive on and when to use meta.
I feel for ya. When you play a team-based game, having an idiot who just never helps well is aggravating.
That said, I definitely agree with Blizzard who designates Illidan as a Very Hard hero. Seriously; even taking into account all those Lifesteal and mobility he has, he dies far too easily. In fact, I find it hilarious that most heroes with Lifesteal are actually damn fragile (Assassins, Sonya), which makes me wonder why they are the ones given Lifesteal...
As for Kael'thas being the next hero? Eh, fine, I guess. I'm more interested in seeing a Starcraft map soon rather than more Heroes in the roster. I mean, come on, where is Aiur? Where is Char? Why can't we have Zerglings for minions? (wait, Kerrigan would protest)
I did not expect us to get the Spider Queen map when we did since the last thing we had been hinted was the Diablo Heaven vs. Hell map. The biggest thing I want with releases is to fill the game/class gaps like a Starcraft Warrior for instance.

Oh, yes, that reminds me..... we still haven't had Starcraft Warrior yet, right? And Tyrael is a Warrior, I think? Which would make it that we lack Diablo Support either, unless I forgot someone.
But who can fill the slot for Starcraft Warrior? Diablo Support is easy, just pick some random support class from the game and give them a name and we're set (see Valla, Nazeebo and Sonya), but Starcraft? Closest I can think of is Fenix, but any better idea?
Hmm.... I suggested Fenix also because I fully played the first game, but never played the second game, which means that unlike you, I was actually blindsided by a great many number of Starcraft characters in HotS when I first saw them (like Abathur, whom I mistook for Diablo character at times, Zagara and Tychus). But yeah, having read a bit about Dehaka's character profile somewhere, I'll probably check out Youtube for his gameplay and then probably agree with you
