Hey folks, welcome to my guide to Peasant and Pauper EDH 2.0. First I will explain each variant and how they differ from the other.
Pauper - Peasant is a format that only allows you to play with cards printed as a common at least once. Peasant can be a fun and rewarding format that allows you to re-evaluate commons that you may have over looked in the past. The strength of cards in this format is redundancy and recursion.
Variants of PDH - There are many different variants on the theme for PDH.
1.) PDH with Legendary Commander, Any legend as your commander your 99 is commons and Basic Land. 2.) PDH with Uncommon Commander, Any uncommon creature as your commander with your 99 as commons and Basics. 3.) PDH with Common Commander, Any common creature as your commander with your 99 commons and basics.
Peasant - Peasant started as a 60-card format that gave you an allotment of 8 uncommons but the rest of the deck had to be commons and basics. I have done some testing with Peasant EDH and found that 13 uncommons is a good measure for your 99. Some others may vary with how many uncommons are allowed.
Variants of Peasant 1.) Peasant EDH with Legendary Commander, Any legend as your commander with 13 uncommons, the rest is commons and basics. 2.) Peasant EDH with Rare Commander, any Rare (not Mythic) creature as your commander with an allotment of uncommons and the rest is commons.
Now that we have each format defined lets get into the meat of the issue.
How do I know what to build? Well talk to your playgroup or post in this sub-forum and you will get all the help you need. d0su, ZombieShakespeare, Trancer99, urdjur or I can help you out with whatever you want to build.
What if I want a list of good stuff for these variant formats? I will be posting a good-stuff list in this guide organized by color soon. Be patient please.
I think you suck and all these variant formats are jank! Ok, well that's your opinion but why did you share it?
Alright, I'm stealing this thread idea from the main commander version - so it will look more or less the exact same. This thread is for a compilation of useful links for pauper commander players, both to other sites and to threads and forums on MTGS. There's not much here right now so if you can think of more stuff to add please post it and I'll update the list!
Pauper Commander Rules Resources The Pauper EDH Rules - The rules for the pauper variant of commander
Disputed Common Cards - A list of the cards that can be argued either way as common (and acceptable for inclusion in pauper decks. Thanks Mewens for putting it together!

Thanks to Zombie for helping compile the list of good stuff. Thanks to urdjur for reminding me of Prosistheplumber's resource thread. Thanks to Prosis for the resources and everyone that helped him compile.

Let's shy away from calling the first options "Green Dragon Highlander" or "Green Dragon Peasant". There is a history of Pauper EDH decks using the common legendary creatures from Chronicles for some time so let's not call it that. We are not planting a flag somewhere new.
I couldn't think of anything else to call it so I went with GDH for the time being. I'll edit it to accommodate. Any ideas for Green/Red/Gold good stuff?

Guide is finished, many thanks to Zombie for keeping me honest and helping with R/G/Gold goodstuff. Hope it helps anyone interested in any variation of the format. I will be adding more things to the guide as time goes on.

It's great that you're doing this and all, however it's not the first time it is attempted. The biggest problem with the previous attempts were that they were never stickied. This, too, will eventually be on page 2, and then another enthusiastic and benevolent procrastinator will step up to write yet another guide like this - UNLESS it is stickied. So nag on ISBPathfinder until he does!
It's a resource for all things PDH - containing links to a rules/format thread and a top-cards-by-color thread too, among other things. It TOO should be stickied (alternately, increase the ambition level of the OP a bit and make sure that everything that prosistheplumber chose to compile is in your guide too and in a neat and appealing format - then we'll only need one thread stickied, which is preferable).
Thirdly, your made up names for the subformats I think will only increase confusion, especially if new posters think they are established or that people will automatically know what they represent. It's particularly unfortunate to name a subcategory the same thing as the category itself (does PDH refer to pauper in general, or to pauper with a legendary commander?). I would suggest to use the terms PDH, Pauper EDH, and Commander EDH as interchangeable terms, and not naming the variants until there's something established, if ever. For now, let's just call them "PDH with a legendary commander/general" or "PDH with an uncommon commander/general". It's good that you describe these formats, but there is just no basis for inventing terminology at present IMO. The same obviously goes for the details of a peasant subformats (I've also noted that 10 uncommons seems to be way more typical than any other number, but the internet presence of Peasant EDH is at any rate miniscule).
If you have time to devote a sustained, long-term effort to this thread, I think it will really help this forum blossom! If you are willing to be "that guy", it also makes sense to make your own decklist database since prosis appears to have left the building. Keep up the good work!

I'm confused on cards that are like Ghost Town (Gatherer). I'd say it's common if I pulled it out of my collection because the printed symbol is black and white. But Gatherer says it is Uncommon. Would it be expected to look up every card I want to use or just go with what is printed on the card?

Early sets (pre 1999) did not have color coded expansion symbols. Core sets didn't incorporate them until 6th edition (5th ed Simplified Chinese not withstandling).
//EDIT: Essentially any card printed with any of the expansion symbols in the attached JPG were not color coded for rarity.
The basic rule of thumb is to check gatherer and if it was "printed" in common, its fine. note: many cards may say common but are magic online commons, thus they have not been "printed" as a common. That being said, this is a casual format so it is pretty flexible, we play pauper against peasant or regular EDH decks.
