Hey, this could be a more general software question, but:
Say I wanted to write some program to grab information off a particular website's search results. Specifically I would like to grab data from mtgotrader's price list, like sample it's prices for all rares and mythics and do fun things with that data.
What programming language or framework should I use to accomplish such a task? Could I do it in Python or Java? What are some buzz words for this kind of programming so I can search for tutorials and teach myself?
Sorry for being so noobish. I have never done much programming that involves networking or communicating across the internet, and I'm not in school anymore so I don't have any mentor figure to learn from.
does mtgotrader have a webservice api? if it does then you can simply make calls to that, most languages will do. But if they dont, then what you propose will be hell at best since you would have to have a program enter search terms then screen scrape the results. And your code will break if the change their website even just a little.
