This feels like a ton of checkboxes. So if Domain were to see Standard play, it needs a Mana Confluence... that gives a free basic land type... that's also a fastland... and then let's throw Gate on there as flavor. Outside of that and Commander players playing Gate tribal, this won't see much play.
This is one of my favorite lands in a while. It's mechanically interesting, and I love that it can be another way to get an untapped gate for gate decks.
Some of these: Gatecreeper Vine, Navigation Orb, Open the Gates are low enough CMC to potentially allow it be played untapped early game. (Orb if you have Sol Ring or a mana dork). Having another gate with a unique name is especially good for EDH gate decks that look for numbers/uniquely-named gates.
Does anyone else wonder whether that Gate on the typeline will become suddenly really relevant once the Phyrexians open up interplanar Gates to stage a large scale invasion two or three sets from now?

What I see is a worse mana confluence since it only does one color and even with chromatic lantern effects on it that still makes it a slightly better city of brass (the last ability)

It's definitely more valuable in a gates deck; but as I said there are also more ways to tutor for gates than there are Mana Confluence.
Gates is a real deck in Pioneer and this frankly may bring it to a new level. Not coming into play tapped is huge so you can hit a turn 2 growth spiral or have an untapped land for a turn 3 gates ablaze.
It at the least replaces all the off color gates the deck was splashing just to hit critical mass, so i am inclined to think it will be a staple card there. Everywhere else, meh?
A worse City of Brass is still a fine card. I'd like to see Mana Confluence and City of Brass reprinted into oblivion, but I'm always happy to see a new and decent rainbow land.
What I don't like: Mana confluence has 9 words. City of Brass has 17 words. Thran Portal has 47 words.

City of Brass + Urza's Armor (Or Blessed Sanctuary; Purity; Pariah + Stuffy Doll)! Beat that Mana Confluence!
Or if you really wanna trigger things for no reason: Flowering Field enchanting City of Brass. Tap it just to prevent its own damage!
